Faith, family and friends are a constant in the Webb’s daily lives
Jeff and Paula Webb had sold their home, planning to build a new one for their two daughters to grow up in. They rented a house in the country, trying to save up money for the initial start, when their life took a turn. On February 23, 2003, Paula was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Hospital, Aetna finalize agreement

The proposed agreement between Aetna and Memorial Hospital of Union County has been finalized.

Fewer fatalities reported this Christmas holiday
Provisional numbers released this week by the Ohio Department of Public Safety, show fewer motorists were killed on Ohio’s roadways this Christmas holiday.

Elementary staff share their family spirit with fellow teacher

Christmas is not the only time when family and friends usually share goodwill with others. Barb Krasovic, a third grade teacher at North Union Elementary, has received love from her fellow staff members during two of her more difficult periods of life.

UCBDD superintendent gets extension
The Union County Board of Developmental Disabilities (UCBDD) has approved an extension to the contract of Superintendent Kim Miller, beginning July 1, 2011, and ending June 30, 2016.

Decorating contest winners announced
Some years, it is more obvious than others to tell the status of the economy, when you drive through town and not see as many homes decorated. This year, the judges of the decorating contest can attest to the status of the economy.

Office holiday hours
The Richwood Gazette will close at 2 p.m. on Christmas Eve, December 24, so that staff can enjoy the Christmas holiday.
Advertising deadline will be at noon on Thursday, Dec. 23, for the December 29 edition. The regular deadline for the January 5 edition will return to noon on Friday, Dec. 31.

Village council reluctantly accepts Wiley's resignation
Richwood Village Council will be accepting applications for a new 
member to council, as Mayor Bill Nibert read Peg Wiley's resignation 
letter at the Monday night meeting.

Humane Society asks for help with expansion
Staff at the Union County Humane Society (UCHS) have been working 
throughout 2010 with a full house, over the shelter’s capacity of 
properly caring for animals. Every day they see sadness of people’s 
faces when they can no longer afford to care for their pet or the joy 
and excitement on faces when they can find a person or family who 
will adopt a pet.

Pie Giveaway winners are announced
The Richwood Area Business Association (RABA)  recently sponsored the 
annual Pie Giveaway Contest. In various businesses around town, 
people were invited to sign-up to win a pie of their choice for the 
holidays. No purchase was necessary to participate. The RABA 
officials were very pleased with the amount of entries submitted in 
this year’s contest.

United Way makes one last push for donations

With less than a month remaining to reach their $875,000 goal, United 
Way is projecting to be about $50,000 short. In 2009, funds raised 
totaled $843,000.

Contract extended for Memorial Hospital and Aetna
A temporary extension has been reached that will allow Memorial 
Hospital of Union County to remain an in-network provider for Aetna 
insurance carriers.

Public invited to veterans wreath ceremony
Make time Saturday, Dec. 11 to attend the “Wreaths Across America” 
ceremony. The event begins at 1:30 p.m. and veterans, the public and 
students are encouraged to join the Civic Air Patrol (CAP) Squadron 
234 at the North Union Veterans Memorial, located on Veterans Way 
near Richwood Park.

Ministerial Association offers goodwill during Christmas
Members of the Richwood Area Ministerial Association (RAMA) will once 
again offer assistance to struggling families during the Christmas 
season.

Santa Claus is coming to town

Bundle up and be prepared, because the annual Christmas Parade will 
welcome in the holidays on Saturday, Dec. 4, beginning at 4 p.m.

Humane Society plans expansion project

With Union County named the third fastest growing county in Ohio, 
there can be a lot of stray dogs and cats to go along with those 
population numbers.

NU School district to hold annual food drive
It’s the time of year when usually people open their hearts to help 
others who are struggling to make ends meet, either donating toys for 
Christmas gifts or providing food where there is a need.

North Union FFA members receive American FFA Degree
The American FFA Degree recognizes members who demonstrate leadership 
abilities and outstanding achievements in agricultural business, 
production, processing and service programs. To be eligible, members 
must have earned and productively invested $7,500 through a 
supervised agricultural experience (SAE) program in which they start, 
own, or hold a professional position in an existing agriculture 
enterprise. Recipients must also make it their mission to demonstrate 
outstanding leadership abilities and community involvement. Three 
members of the North Union FFA chapter received the National FFA 
organization's highest honor. Kayleen Faine, Matt Ross, and Kyle 
Gravatt were presented with the American FFA Degree at the 84th 
National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Ind.
