Council swears in Rose as new council member

Renovations continue at new administrative office building
Richwood Village Council watched as its newest member was sworn in at 
Monday’s regularly scheduled meeting.

Richwood Community Apartments receives funding for property restoration
An announcement from  was made recently that the Ohio Housing Finance 
Agency (OHFA) Board approved funding to support development of 
residential properties serving low and moderate income residents 
throughout the state. One local recipient is the Richwood Community 
Apartments.

North Union Local Schools are one of Ohio’s leaders  in academic 
opportunities

On Wednesday, Jan. 13, North Union High School hosted a parent 
meeting to hear Superintendent, Rick Smith and Curriculum Director, 
Dave Baker share the district’s plan to help all students take 
advantage of the district’s Academic Advancement Opportunities. North 
Union Principal, Eric Holman, High School Guidance Counselor, 
Jennifer Willis, and Middle School Guidance Counselor, Kathy Johnson, 
shared materials and answered parent questions as well. Parents were 
(re)informed that their students can continue to meet with the 
guidance counselor and develop a personal plan to take correspondence 
classes for junior high or high school credit, and to take advantage 
of having a highly qualified teacher tutor class work independently 
with a student to recover or work ahead to earn additional credits.

North Union High School to host FAFSA meeting
Prospective college students, parents and guests are invited to a 
FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) completion meeting 
at North Union High School on Wednesday, Feb. 3. The meeting will be 
held in the computer lab from 6 to 8 p.m. Those planning to attend, 
should contact Diana Jordan, guidance office secretary, at 
740-943-3012 for a reservation. Computers will be available to assist 
students and parents in completing their student aid forms.

Haiti relief efforts continue in Richwood
Richwood area residents have always risen to requests for help 
locally and abroad. Many people continue to be concerned for the 
country of Haiti and their struggles of survival.

Safe and Sound Expo is announced
Union County Sheriff’s Office and Union County Emergency Services 
Association have teamed up with other individuals with 
responsibilities for safety, to hold their first annual Safe and 
Sound in Union County Community Safety Expo. The county-wide event is 
set for Saturday, Aug. 28 at the Bunsold Middle School, 14198 Route 
4, near Marysville.

Richwood Cemetery holds history of village

Nestled quietly behind the former Community United Calvary Church, 
located on E. Ottawa St., lies the Richwood Cemetery, a place where 
the history of the village of Richwood begins. The forgotten, run 
down landmark, has been resurrected recently, by a young man, who 
used the restoration project to complete his Eagle Scout Award.

Richwood men have close connection with Haiti
Jeff Hoffman, Jim Monroe, Steve Price and Cecil Swartzentruber 
answered a call to spend 10 days in Haiti with the Christian Service 
International (CSI) Ministries. Their mission was to help finish 
building a church that was started earlier in March of 2009.

School board holds organizational meeting
North Union Board of Education held their organizational meeting of 
the new calendar year and first order of business was to swear in 
newly elected members, Kevin Crosthwaite, Denny Hall and Donald 
Tumeo.  Members also voted Jon Hall as board president and Kevin 
Crosthwaite as vice president.

Council prepares for renovation work to begin
Richwood Village Council is ready to take another step toward 
establishing a new home for itself.
Council learned of progress on the former Mills Chevrolet Building at 
153 N. Franklin St. which will eventually not only house council, but 
also the village administrative offices and police department.

State Representative to hold District Day in Richwood
State Representative Dave Burke (R-Marysville) will be holding his 
monthly District Day at the Richwood-North Union Public Library, 4 E. 
Ottawa St., on Thursday, Jan. 14. The event will be held from 4 to 6 
p.m.

National Influenza Vaccination Week
The Union County Health Department announces National Influenza 
Vaccination Week is January 10 through 16. This federal observance 
highlights the importance of continuing influenza vaccination into 
January and beyond.

Richwood looks back on 2009
The year 2009 held many ups and downs for Richwood area residents. 
Nationwide, the economy took a sharp dip, causing high unemployment 
and unfortunately homelessness for many families.

Accident at Scott’s Miracle-Gro Co. claims Richwood resident

The New Year’s Eve death of a Scott’s Miracle-Gro Company employee is 
still under investigation, according to police and company officials.

Police department receives 2,063 calls for service 2009
Richwood Police Chief Monte R. Asher has released statistics of the 
local police department for 2009. The department received 2,063 calls 
for service, which 512 of those calls warranted a full report.

UC Health Department holds open H1N1 clinic
Staff at the Union County Health Department have announced a public 
clinic will be held on Friday, Jan. 8 for anyone wishing to receive 
the H1N1 vaccine. The clinic will be located at the Union County 
Health Department, 940 London Ave., in Marysville. The event will be 
held from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m.
