Lawler retires as library director
After 29 years of service, Judy Lawler will retire May 1 as director, 
head librarian of the Richwood-North Union Public Library. When asked 
if she had any plans after retiring, she’s going to sit on her porch 
and read!

Council urges residents to help recycle
Members of the Richwood Village Council recently voted to have 
recycling bins installed behind the new administration building, 
hoping the community will consider a “greener” lifestyle.

Town Clock a friend to all

Every small village or town has a symbol that is the focal point of 
their existence. In Richwood, Ohio, it’s Town Hall and the clock, 
better known as “where the clock strikes hospitality.”

Voter registration deadline is near
Any Union County resident who plans to vote in the Primary Election 
on Tuesday, May 4, who is not registered, has until Monday, April 5 
to qualify.

North Union School make-up day announced
North Union Local Schools have used up the five calamity days allowed 
by law, due to the icy road conditions last Friday. Superintendent 
Rick Smith has announced that students will have to make-up a few days.


Fourth generation enjoys making maple syrup

Anyone who has enjoyed a plate of pancakes knows the added touch is 
warm maple syrup, running over the stack and onto the plate. But have 
you ever  wondered how maple syrup is made, other than buying a 
bottle on the grocer’s shelf?

Residents urged to recycle
Richwood residents will soon have a seven-day-per-week drop-off point 
for recyclables. Walter Wallace of Union Recyclers was asked to 
attend Monday night’s regularly scheduled Richwood Village Council 
meeting to discuss setting up a collection point.

Are you signed up for CodeRED?
Residents in Union County have an opportunity to be alerted from the 
Union County Sheriff’s Office when severe weather threatens the area. 
That system is the CodeRED Weather Warning system, an automated 
severe weather alerting service that is provided free to local 
residents. During the spring tornado season, there’s not a better 
time to sign-up than now.

Richwood fairgrounds is site for Springenfest

Members of the Richwood fair board and North Union Athletic Complex 
(NUAC) have signed a contract allowing the annual Springenfest event 
to be held at the local fairgrounds on June 18 and 19.

Students offered online classes, a jumpstart for entering college
In preparing students for future courses in college, North Union is 
allowing some students to engage in online classes.

Not guilty plea entered in theft case

The woman accused of stealing from both the North Union School 
District and Washington Township, has had her first day in court.

The North Central Ohio Solid Waste District (NCOSWD) is announcing 
changes to the annual Household Hazardous Waste Day (HHW) in 2010.

The Richwood Area Business Association (RABA) is welcoming warm 
weather with the annual Spring Basket Giveaway.

Richwood Village Council members passed the village’s operating 
budget during their Monday, March 8 meeting.

Council studies auxiliary police program

Richwood Police Chief Monte Asher told village council Monday night 
that he has no intention of disbanding the department’s auxiliary 
program.

Union County Sheriff announces new information  technology
The Union County Sheriff’s office is launching a new internet-based 
community information service designed to deliver  important and 
timely information to residents with a new use for existing technology.

For many Americans, St. Patrick’s Day has become a popular night out 
to celebrate with friends and family. Unfortunately, due to the large 
number of drunk drivers, the night out has also become very dangerous.

Schedule of Easter services needed
An invitation is extended to area churches who would like to post 
their special services for Palm Sunday, March 28 and Easter Sunday, 
April 4.

 Fundraiser to help Alzheimer’s Assoc. and Children’s Tumor Foundation
Richwood VFW Post 870 will be the place to celebrate St. Patrick’s 
Day with a fundraising party, set for Saturday, March 13. Festivities 
will be held at the local VFW Post, located at the corner of W. 
Blagrove and N. Franklin Sts. from 8 to 12 p.m. The event is open to 
the public, but those who purchase tickets must be 21 and older to 
attend.

Union County Drug Free Youth Coalition targets drug and alcohol use in schools
It started out as a group of parents and concerned citizens 
discussing the drug use in Union County. Concerns were voiced from 
several schools in the county. So by combining resources, the Union 
County Drug Free Youth Coalition was formed. Now they are organizing 
to set a vision and focus on the problems and peer pressures of young 
people with drug and alcohol abuse.

Alleged theft of public funds results in indictment

A former North Union High School secretary and Washington Township 
Fiscal Officer has been indicted. A Union County grand jury has 
indicted Valerie K. Cox, 49, of 19640 Turner Road, Richwood, charging 
her with two counts of theft in office and two counts of tampering 
with evidence, all felonies of the third degree.
