Council gives a “gift” on village sewer bills
When voters approved an opportunity to participate in a three year 
electrical aggregation program with First Energy last May, the 
village would receive $25,000 from First Energy for participating in 
the program. Council members will evenly distribute that wealth with 
the village residents.

Friends collaborate on writing first book
They have been friends since the age of three, attended the same 
church for years and sometimes can finish each other’s thoughts. No, 
they are not brothers or twins, just two good friends who enjoy 
writing fiction stories, putting their imaginations into writing.

McCarthy to resign from Commissioner position
Tom McCarthy wants to spend more time with his family, so he made the 
decision to resign as a Union County Commissioner, effective 
Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010. He had earlier given the date of Monday, 
Nov. 22, but had a request from the Republican County Chairman, Jim 
Westfall, to alter his resignation to December 1. His cooperation 
with the Republican Central Committee will give them additional time 
to evaluate the unexpectedly large number of people who have shown 
interest in filling his position. The committee has 45 days to select 
a replacement.

Union County Chamber salutes leaders
The Salute to Leaders annual awards banquet was held Thursday, Nov.. 
19 at the Union County Service Center. The event is presented by the 
Union County Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by Memorial Hospital 
of Union County. Individuals or organizations that have made a major 
contribution to the equality of life in Union County were recognized 
The recognition includes thirteen categories, incorporated city and 
villages and the ten townships, for a total of 27 awards.

Financial outlook discussed at NU board meeting
North Union School Board members discussed their economic five year 
plan during their meeting Monday. Prior to the start of the meeting, 
members had taken their annual tour of the Tri-Rivers Career Center 
in Marion.

Case of Whooping Cough confirmed
The Union County Health Department received notification of a 
confirmed pertussis (commonly called Whooping Cough) case on 
Thursday, Nov. 11. The individual, a student at North Union High 
School, is being treated with antibiotics and is recovering.

Get ready for the holidays in Richwood!
The Richwood Area Business Association is asking everyone to join in 
the upcoming festivities of the Christmas season. It all started with 
the kick off of The Great Pie Giveaway. From now until Thursday, 
December 9, everyone is invited to enter your name and telephone 
number at the businesses listed below. On Friday, Dec. 10, one winner 
from each establishment will be notified to pick up their pie 
certificate which is to be used before the end of December. Winners 
will notify Carlyle’s Restaurant of their choice of pie and the date 
of pick-up. Businesses participating include:

Turning Point seeks support for Christmas program
Turning Point, the program for victims of domestic violence, is 
seeking support for its annual Adopt-a-Family Christmas program.  
Since 1986, with the help of generous community support, Turning 
Point has provided holiday assistance for families who have fled 
abusive situations.

Local business honored with Disabled Award

  Dan Shew, owner of Marcy Industries, received word that he will be 
presented with the prestigious Employer of the Disabled Award last 
week, sponsored by the Ohio State American Legion.  Marcy Industries, 
located in Richwood, is a Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Small 
Business engaged in manufacturing and sub-assembly production for a 
variety of customers, including major automobile manufacturers and 
the Federal Government. In addition to employing U.S. military 
veterans, Marcy Industries is currently working with U-Co Industries 
in Marysville to provide an internship position for a young person 
with developmental disabilities.

Council prepares for smooth roads ahead
The village of Richwood might be looking into getting a new snow plow 
blade.

Church: Save shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child
Christmas will be here soon and members of the Fulton Creek 
Evangelical Friends Church are asking for public support.

United Way needs strong push to reach mark
With results of area political campaigns in the record book, United 
Way of Union County volunteers are rolling out one more campaign 
slogan to area residents: “Give where you live!”

NU student places first in the nation; FFA agronomy team ends up fourth
When the North Union Agronomy team set its sights on being declared 
the best agronomy team in the state, it seemed like an attainable 
dream, until they won the state title last year. But the team of Kyle 
Dresback, Blake Taylor, Alicia Dysert and Riley Hall, weren’t ready 
to quit. They set their goal at being number one  in the nation and 
again it seemed impossible until Friday afternoon at the National FFA 
convention.

General Election results are in
This is probably the most appreciative time of the year, when the 
political commercials, phone calls and mail ceases after the November 
election. According to the Union County Board of Elections, 51.55 
percent of registered voters took the time to visit the polls and 
exercise their right to vote.

Bloodmobile gives the hope of life to others
Many years ago, the American Red Cross visited Richwood, twice a 
year, for blood donations. The drives were sponsored by the Richwood 
Lions Club.

Richwood Area Ministerial Association to provide turkeys
Thanksgiving is a holiday where families gather together, share a 
meal and be thankful for what they have. But some families have been 
struggling financially and may not have enough food on their table 
this Thanksgiving.
