Council discusses lighting up the town for Christmas
Village council members discussed the pros and cons of whether to 
continue to decorate the Richwood Park with lights during the 
Christmas season or to consider adding more lights to the downtown 
business district for 2011. Each council member expressed their views 
on the subject.

Two seeking commissioner position in November election
Staff Reports
For Union County voters, the choice in this year’s county 
commissioner’s race will come down to youth and change or experience 
and reputation.
Voters will choose between current commissioner Gary Lee, a 
Republican, and independent challenger Sarah Dingledine.

Trick or Treat safety tips for having more fun!
Ghosts, goblins, princes- es and cartoon characters will be trolling 
the streets of Richwood Sunday, Oct. 31 for the annual Trick or Treat 
night.

Publish a day late
The Richwood Gazette will publish a day late next week, due to the 
General Election on Tuesday, Nov. 2. To include the results of the 
election, subscribers will receive their newspaper one day later than 
normal. Newspapers will be on stands Thursday, Nov. 4.

Voters will have “issues” at the polls Nov. 2
Tuesday, November 2 will be a busy day, as registered voters will 
decide the fate of many  issues at the General Election.

Grant helps refurbish basketball courts
The North Union Local School District recently received $1,425 in 
grant money from the Union County Health Department. In keeping with 
the school board’s promise to maintain school facilities, the money 
was used for the public basketball courts, located on E. Blagrove 
St., at the site of the former middle school.

School Board looks to update track facility
North Union school board members voted  to authorize the 
advertisement of bids for the high school track project at their 
meeting Monday night. Jon Hall, board president, was absent from the 
meeting.

Richwood groups to host Toys For Tots drive
Members of the First Baptist Church of Richwood, Creations Beauty 
Salon and the Northern Union County Fire Department and EMS are again 
hosting the Richwood area Toys For Tots drive.

Richwood Council to offer rebate on sewer bills
Figuring out how exactly to repay a rebate to village residents was 
debated at Monday night’s Richwood Village Council meeting.

Collection event set for unwanted items
What is the best thing to do with obsolete electronic items, old 
televisions or appliances? The answer is to recycle them, of course. 
On Saturday, Oct. 23, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Union Recyclers at 15140 
Rt. 36, east of Marysville, will make it easy for folks to rid their 
storage spaces and garages of these unwanted items.

United Way of Union County needs your help!
Have you ever donated blood to the American Red Cross? Parents, do 
you have a boy or girl scout in your home? Have you ever needed the 
services of the Salvation Army  or the North Union Personal Needs 
Pantry? All of these important parts of your life are assisted by the 
United Way of Union County and now United Way needs your help. United 
Way also helps support The Richwood Civic Center, North Union 
Baseball for Boys and Softball for Girls, Loving Care Hospice and 
Turning Point. We are all touched in some way by services that are 
supported by United Way.

Bert and Ernie’s Pizza and Drive-thru sold
Bill and Vicki Rose, owners of Bert and Ernie’s Pizza and Drive-thru 
for twelve years, have turned over the pizza pans to Rodney Steward, 
the new proprietor.

County Engineer closes Cobb-Harriman Rd.
Union County Engineer Jeff Stauch, has closed Cobb-Harriman Road 
between Route 739 and Fish-Daum Rd.

Community raises $6,600 for Heifer International
The Sixth Annual Heifer Festival was held Saturday at The Richwood 
Fairgrounds and by day’s end, a total of $6,600 was raised. All 
proceeds will go to Heifer International, a non-profit organization 
that began 65 years ago to help fight hunger and poverty. The program 
provides livestock for families, who in turn will pass on the first-
born female to a neighbor as a gift.

Pilot program to recycle household hazardous waste to begin
The North Central Ohio Solid Waste District is announcing a “Pilot 
Program” for residents to recycle their household hazardous waste. 
This will be held in October and end on November 4, 2010, with 
limited dates and times imposed.

McElroy to be sworn in as new council member
Richwood Village Council will have a new member sworn into office at 
the Monday, Oct. 11 meeting. Teresa McElroy, a W. Bomford St. 
resident, will fill the vacant council seat left by Von Beal, who has 
accepted a job out of the village. McElroy will fill Beal’s term, 
which is up for re-election December 31, 2011.

Workshops energize seniors with ongoing health conditions
For most of her adult life, Doris didn’t worry much about her health. 
Then at 67, she was diagnosed with diabetes and high blood pressure. 
She tried to follow her doctor’s advice to take her medications, 
exercise, and eat better. But often she was tired and even a little 
depressed.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month
This October, during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Turning Point 
will launch its second Purple Light Nights awareness campaign 
sponsored by Verizon Wireless.
