Village council and school district strengthen partnership
Village council met Monday evening to discuss improvements that would affect the village and the surrounding community. North Union Schools Superintendent Rick Smith addressed council about strengthening the working relationship between the village and the school district. Smith noted that he and Mayor Bill Nibert have worked together several times when business that pertained to the village and the school district. Smith said that the school district wants to be a better partner and thinks that both entities are working together for the betterment of the whole community.

Richwood resident is new Union County Sheriff
Lt. Jamie Patton has been sworn in as the new sheriff of Union County.
“I am excited,” he said. “I am looking forward to the challenge. As I have worked 20-plus years in law enforcement, I have taken the steps and worked my way up the ranks and each step has its challenges. The challenge of being sheriff is that you are tasked with seeing the big picture and doing what’s best for the safety of Union County.”

Impostors are posing as Health Inspectors
The Union County Health Department was notified by The Ohio Department of Health (ODH) Food Safety Program that ODH has received numerous phone calls stating that people claiming to be health inspectors are contacting food service operators throughout Ohio. These individuals identify themselves as "health inspectors," request to schedule an inspection of the food service operation and attempt to collect personal information from the operators. According to recent news reports, businesses are targeted to both extort money and allow the scammers to set-up fake identities via web sites in order to fraudulently sell goods and services, possibly on Craig’s list.

Click it or ticket campaign begins soon
The Richwood Police Department will join local and national law enforcement officers and highway safety advocates all across the country for the 2011 national Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement mobilization, which runs May 23 through June 5.

Indiana seniors tour Union County
Last week, visitors of three senior centers from the Fort Wayne, Ind. area, traveled across state lines to tour Union County. This was the first bus tour of the Union County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau season.

Fulton Creek Church celebrates 75 years
In 1868, according to Ohio Historical Society records, the church building was erected on Donovan Road by a group of Methodists. The land was donated by the Dewiller family. Whenever the land was not used for worship purposes, it would revert back to the family or heirs. Records are missing from 1868 to 1936.

Daytime burglaries hitting Union County
According to reports from the Union County Sheriff’s Office, beginning February 11 of this year, 10 daytime burglaries have been reported. The main items that have been taken include jewelry/jewelry boxes, televisions, laptop computers and digital cameras. Other items of obvious or greater value are being left behind.

Nationwide prescription drug take-back day announced
The Union County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with other government, community, public health and law enforcement agencies from across Ohio, will be partnering with the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration for the nationwide prescription drug “Take-Back.”

Spring Story Hour set at library
Story Hour at the Richwood-North Union Public Library takes place on Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to noon in the children’s section of the library, beginning Wednesday, April 13. It is no longer necessary to make a reservation for this event. All children ages three to five are welcome to join in the fun-filled hour for crafts, stories and other fun activities.
