Dog leash ordinance considered
A dog leash ordinance will soon make its way to the village of Richwood.
During Monday night’s Richwood council meeting, board members discussed possible stipulations to be included in the ordinance.

Antique farm machine show at Richwood Fairgrounds
Friday, Saturday and Sunday, travel to the Richwood Fairgrounds and check out the horsepower that was used to operate farms “back in the day.”

School supply drive benefits North Union students
There is still time to donate school supplies to help students in the North Union School District.

Richwood P.D. nabs suspect in burglary
Richwood Police Chief Monte Asher said that without assistance by the Marysville Police Department, catching a burglar would not have been as easy.

School board candidates must file by Aug. 10
People who are interested in becoming involved with their local schools, serving on their school board, must file a nominating petition with their county board of elections by 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 10 (90 days prior to the date of the general election).

Marysville Goodwill store relocate and expand operation
A new location and larger facility  for the Goodwill Store, currently located on the corner of S. Main and W. Seventh streets, will be a welcome addition for customers.

North Union Schools continue with improved ratings

The North Union School District 2010-2011 annual report was presented to members of the school board Monday night, and superintendent Rick Smith is pleased with the results.

Community Yard Sales will be held Friday and Saturday in and outside of the village. Be sure to check out the ad on the Classified page of today’s edition for a listing of homes who are hosting sales. You will be sure to find the ordinary and the extraordinary types of items for sale, such as the college student needing things for school, the new parents-to-be might find baby furniture and clothes, tools for the garage, clothes, appliances, etc. You are sure to find a bargain!

It is always important that each generation knows some history as to where our country began and the many changes throughout the years. With today’s technology involved in everything we do, children and young adults should realize how hard people worked with the types of machinery that was available decades ago.

One local woman has proven that age doesn’t matter when it comes to chasing your dreams.

Drivers notified of closed road
Jeff Stauch, Union County Engineer, has announced that the bridge on Snediker Road (TR 279), in Claibourne Township, will be closed approximately three months. The bridge spans Fulton Creek, between Bethlehem-Claibourne Road and Graham-Jones Road.

Wounded Warriors travel through Richwood
Many people could not believe their eyes when they saw three horses and riders traveling down the sidewalks of Richwood last Friday. Those three people are riding horseback across the United States to raise awareness and funds for the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP).

School supply fundraiser to benefit North Union students
While the summer months are mid-way to start of the fall school season, parents will begin shopping for school supplies. For some families, it is a financial burden to purchase supplies, so the North Union Personal Needs Pantry once again plans to provide school supplies to those families.

Council hears concerns of unkept properties in the village
Richwood residents attended last night’s village council meeting to express their concerns.  The main concern was the number of unmowed and unkept lots in the village.

The 165th annual Union County Fair opens July 24
Starting Sunday, July 24 and running through Saturday, July 30, the fair will offer a variety of activities, food and entertainment to last the entire week.

Community continues to support American Red Cross bloodmobiles
The Richwood First United Methodist Church hosted a bloodmobile in June, where 55 productive units were collected for the American Red Cross.

Resurfacing Union County roads begins
Union County Engineer crews began their annual chip seal program this week. The work is expected to last three to four weeks. Road surfacing will take place between the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday.

Parrott Implement to host second annual Family Fun Ride
The Second Annual Family Fun Ride is just around the corner.
The Amazing Race-style ride will occur on Saturday, July 23 with registration beginning at noon.

He’s making fatherhood famous one mile at a time
Rafiki Mukhtar Ali, also know as M.K. Ali, stopped at Richwood Park last Wednesday for a break and to check his map for the next leg of his travels. You see,  M.K. Ali is riding a bicycle from Champaign, Ill. to Washington D.C. to talk to legislators about the importance of fatherhood.

Festival in the Field welcomes motorcyclists
While the Bike Festival and Honda Homecoming are no more, Union County will have a motorcycle themed day of event this year.

RABA invites community to yard sales
It’s time again for an annual community-wide event sponsored by the Richwood Area Business Association (RABA).

Chamber passes resolution to reinstate tax reimbarsement
The Union County  Chamber of Commerce Board of Trustees recently passed a resolution requesting an amendment to the State’s biennial budget to reinstate the Tangible Personal Property (or TPP) taxes reimbursement payments to local governments.
