Transplants tie two families together for life
Kenny and Terri Gravatt have met a married couple from West Virginia and they will be tied together for life. In fact, two of them have given life to their spouses by donating their kidneys.

Village council receives approval for grant money
Richwood Village Council members received word at their Monday night meeting, that they have been approved to receive grant money from a Community Development Block Grant from the Union County Commissioners. The amount of money could amount to $81,000.

School board reaches agreement with association

A settlement has finally been reached between the Champaign, Delaware, Marion, Union (CDMU) Schools Employee Benefit Association and the Olentangy Local Schools Board.

New resources available for entreprenuers and businesses
Union County entrepreneurs and small business owners now have additional options when it comes to business assistance.

Office closed July 4th
The Richwood Gazette office will be closed Monday, July 4th in observance of the Independance Day. Regular hours will resume Tuesday, July 5. The newspaper will be published a day late, and will be available on Thursday, July 7.

Family and friends host DeLynn Kale Memorial Tractor Pull
When you mention the sport of tractor pulling in central Ohio, the name DeLynn Kale will be mentioned. Kale is very well known in the tractor pulling circuit as he won many prestigious awards in the Ohio and National Tractor Pullers competitions, driving “The Buckeye Travler” and “Ride The Lightning.”
NUEA to extend contract with school board
On June 27, 2011, the North Union Board of Education will finalize an agreement with the North Union Education Association (NUEA) to extend the current contract expiring June 30, 2012 for two years until June 30, 2014.

Rain failed to dampen spirits at Springenfest
North Union Athletic Committee (NUAC) members breathed a sigh of relief over the weekend. Preliminary reports show the rainy weather did not dampen the support of the annual Springenfest two-day festival.

Prospect to host annual Fourth of July celebration
The annual Prospect Fourth of July Celebration will be held at Prospect Community Park on Monday, July  4.

Police department to continue foot patrol
May’s decision by the Richwood Police Department to increase foot patrol seemed to work better than Chief Monte Asher had hoped.

Springenfest  provides family fun at fairgrounds
Richwood summer festivities will kick off this weekend with the annual Springenfest beginning Friday.

ODA denies Hi-Q request for chicken farm
The Ohio Department of Agriculture has finally and officially denied the request to build a multi-million chicken facility in northern Union County.

North Union FFA earns Gold Emblem Award
The North Union FFA chapter was one of 33 chapters that earned the Gold Emblem in the Ohio FFA State Association. This award was given during the 2011 Ohio FFA Convention by the State FFA Association.

Ohio State Bank branch to close
According to information released by President and CEO Shawn P. Keller of The Ohio State Bank, the branch office in Richwood, located at 24 W. Ottawa Street, will be closing on Wednesday, Sept. 7.

Couple’s retirement is down on the farm

A Richwood area couple is preparing for retirement by utilizing the family farm.
Rustling Oaks Farm is operated by Dave, a member of the maintenance staff at Ohio State University Marion campus, and Barb  (Wells) Kaelber, an administrative associate to OSU Marion Dean and Director Greg Rose.

Local hat artist travels to Nashville

A local woman has taken her talents to Nashville.
Richwood resident and owner of C & R Leather and Hats, LLC., Melissa Robbins, has signed a contract with country music star, Cowboy Troy, to design and sell hats on the singer’s behalf.

Weather alerts are not to be taken lightly
Northern Union County Fire Chief Randy Riffle keeps a close eye on the tornado siren in Richwood. Since the local fire department is responsible for the care of the equipment, staff members check on it every Wednesday when the siren is tested. Two weeks ago, they didn’t like the way the siren sounded, so after further investigation, it was found that of the 16 speakers, only two are operational.

Summer fun begins next week with Springenfest
With the school year ended and the alumni banquet scheduled for this weekend, you know that Springenfest is just around the corner.
Mark your calendars for a two-day fun-filled festival on Friday and Saturday, June 17 and 18. The event will be held on the Richwood Fairgrounds, beginning Friday at 5 p.m.

Richwood Farmer’s Market opens next week
Bakers and gardeners are invited to set-up displays at the Richwood Farmer’s Market beginning Wednesday, June 15. The program will run on Wednesdays, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. through Oct. 19.

Graduation ceremonies set for Class of 2011
North Union seniors will gather for one last time as a class, before crossing the stage of North Union High School. Friday, June 3, family and friends will gather for the 7 p.m. ceremony in the high school gymnasium.

Co-Valedictorians and Salutatorians are named for NU Class of 2011
Three students will serve as co-Valedictorians and Salutatorian for the North Union Class of 2011.
Hillary Hall, daughter of Denny and Lynne Hall, was named co-valedictorian along with Reagan Stofcheck, daughter of Kyle and Patty Stofcheck. Kyle Dresback, son of Tod and Wanda Dresback will serve as salutatorian

Reservoir being built East of Richwood
Will service Columbus
A project that has been in the discussion and planning process for nearly two decades is now underway. Construction on the first reservoir for Water Beyond 2000, an upground reservoir project started by the City of Columbus, has officially begun near the intersection of Route 4 and Tawa Road in northern Union County.

“Shred” your troubles away
The Richwood VFW Post 870 will host their second annual “shredding day,” Saturday, June 4. The event will take place in the Richwood Cardinal parking lot at 365 E. Blagrove St. from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
