Apparently not every inch of the Richwood Village Park is public ground. A request from a youth ball organization to install a batting cage led to a perusal of village maps which in turn revealed that another property owner would need to be consulted.

Library hosts Ruff Reading for Kids Program
The Richwood-North Union Library is the place to be for young readers.
One of the biggest challenges for young readers it being embarrassed when making a mistake reading. To help children “practice” in becoming more proficient in reading, the Union County Humane Society has volunteers bring canines to the local public library every Tuesday evening through April 5 from 6 to 7 p.m.

Union County supports Japanese Relief Effort
The Union County Commissioners and several local organizations met earlier this week, to coordinate a local donation effort in light of the recent earthquake and tsunami disaster in Japan. Various community organizations are involved with the effort, including the Union County Chapter of the American Red Cross, the United Way of Union County, Marysville Ministerial Association, Richwood Area Ministerial Association, Union County Auditor’s Office, Union County Recorder’s Office, Union County Sherriff’s Office, City of Marysville, Village of Richwood, Village of Plain City, Union County Chamber of Commerce, and concerned citizens.

Mayor to give village update at open breakfast meeting
Mayor William Nibert is inviting the public to a continental breakfast Thursday, March 24 at the village administration building, 153 N. Franklin St. The gathering is to inform the public on village updates over the past few years.

Community to hear about new Elgin K-12 school

Dairy Bar to open - a sign of Spring!
A familiar site, but with all new life, is what customers will find when Tom’s Dairy Bar opens Sunday, March 27.
The dairy bar, located at 371 E. Blagrove St., on the east side of Richwood, has been closed for over three years, until Tom and Annette Chapman purchased the business in June, 2010. The facility had been totally cleaned out and some new equipment has been installed, offering customers a wide variety of choices in food and ice cream.

Police Chief considers adding video cameras to patrol vehicles
The Richwood Village Police Department is looking into installing video cameras in its cruisers.
Police chief Monte Asher said he is getting price estimates for three cameras to go in the village’s patrol cars. He estimated the Panasonic models would cost from $6,000 to $7,000 each.

2010 Census shows Union County growing
According to a press release from Eric S. Phillips, executive director of the Union County Economic Development, Union County remains one of the third fastest growing counties in Ohio. The growth shown is nearly 28 percent during the last decade.

Downtown buildings to come down in Prospect
Prospect Village council has been trying to clean-up dilapidated buildings in the downtown area. Last December, council took action to proceed with demolishing five buildings on North Main St.

American Cancer Society preparing for Relay For Life
The American Cancer Society is seeking teams for the Relay For Life of Union County.
Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society’s national signature overnight fundraising activity. Teams of eight to 15 members gather at team campsites with tents, sleeping bags and collapsible gazebos to participate in the largest fundraising walk in the nation. Relay For Life unites friends, families, businesses, hospitals, schools and churches–people from all walks of life.

Locals assist with Clark County dog rescue
Last Tuesday, Feb. 22, the Clark County Humane Society, EMA and Health Department, along with the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) and animal welfare officials from Union, Franklin, Logan, Madison and Montgomery counties, assisted in rescuing over 365 dogs from the One More Chance Rescue in Clark County.
