Council makes changes in employee handbooks
Village council members made three changes to the employee handbook at Monday night’s regular meeting. Council member Jennifer Huff was absent from the meeting.

Here comes Santa Claus in the Richwood Christmas Parade
Excitement is filling the air as visitors prepare to attend the annual Christmas Parade, Saturday, Dec. 3.
Anyone is invited to participate in the parade by meeting at North Union High School, 401 North Franklin Street at 3 p.m. The parade leaves the school beginning at 4 p.m. and travels south on Franklin Street to Gill Street.

Union County Care Train “cares”
The Union County Care Train began in 1987 with a mission to help those living in Union County and who are struggling financially with food and toys during the holiday season.

Free community holiday dinner announced
Students at North Union High School, who are enrolled in the Career Based Intervention (CBI) class, have a philosophy of giving back to their community, helping where there is a need. On Tuesday, Dec. 13, they are providing a free meal for the Richwood Community.

Light up the Library!
The second annual “Light Up The Library” will be held Saturday, Dec. 10 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Richwood-North Union Public Library, 4 E. Ottawa Street.

Donations needed for Christmas meals
Putting a meal on the table for some households is financially difficult, so to ease that burden, The Richwood Area Ministerial Association (RAMA) will again this year, be providing the choice of a turkey or half a ham for the Christmas season.

Gazette to publish yuletide church events
Local churches are invited to submit special events happening in their churches during the Christmas season. The Richwood Gazette will publish a schedule of events with the dates and times on Wednesday, Dec. 14.

Students enjoy new teaching methods, more engaged in the classroom
North Union board of education members observed some new teaching techniques at their meeting Monday evening. The event was held at Tri-Rivers Career Center, located in Marion.

Police arrest five with help from neighbors
Richwood Police Officers, assisted by the Union County Sheriff’s Office, were called to a vacant residence in the 200 block of East Blagrove Street, Wednesday, Nov. 16. A nearby neighbor had spotted lights turned on and off inside a vacant property. When officers arrived, they noticed the residence had been broken into, however no one was located inside.

Union County seniors earn Honda Math Medal Award
Three high-achieving Union County high school seniors recently received the Honda/OSU Partnership Math Medal Award from Honda of America Mfg. Inc. and The Ohio State University. The award honors the top senior mathematics student in high schools near Honda operations in central and southwest Ohio for their achievements in mathematics courses throughout high school.

Public hears discussion of single bus routes
In a continued effort to save tax dollars for the North Union Local School District, the board of education and school officials look for ways to save the district money. One area recently discussed was the possibility of going to a one-route busing system.

Scout asks council for support of project
North Union student and local Boy Scout Steven Perkins, approached Richwood Village Council members during their Monday night meeting, in regards to planning a scouting project involving Richwood Lake.

One of a kind book honors local WWII veterans
History is a power thing. Preserving information about history is also very important.
Richwood resident Harold Simmons began a project of honoring local World War II veterans, writing stories of each person’s experience while serving their country. Over 80 interviews were published over the years in The Richwood Gazette.

Gazette building sold; office will remain
The building which houses the Richwood Gazette at 26 S. Franklin St. has been sold. Marysville Newspapers, Inc., owner of the Gazette, sold the structure and real estate to Dwight (Bud) and Lori McMahon Friday with a five-year lease back of the front area which will continue to be used as the Gazette office.

Say thank you to a veteran on Nov. 11

Can you find the Indian Corn?
The Richwood Gazette is announcing a new contest. Beginning today readers will search for the Indian Corn.
The Indiana Corn will appear once each week during the month of November, hidden somewhere in the newspaper. Gazette readers who finds the corn should make a note of the exact placement and page number of each of the five issues (November 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30). After the November 30 issue, readers can send in a postcard (3x5 card), indicating the location of all five Indian Corns and deliver their entry card to the office at 26 South Franklin Street, in Richwood or mail it to P.O. Box 187, Richwood, OH 43344. Deadline for all entries will be Monday, Dec. 12 at noon.
