North Union to celebrate the Arts

Come celebrate “The Arts” next week at North Union High School.
The three day event will brgin Thursday, May 3, when the North Union High School Art Department will host their First Art Exhibit. Doors will be open from 5 to 7 p.m. at the high school, located at 401 N. Franklin Street in Richwood. Artwork will be on display for public viewing, along with the presentation of Best of Show award; a choice award in foundations of art, drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture and independent study; Superintendent’s Choice Award; Principle’s Choice Award and the Community Choice Award. These announcements will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the high school cafeteria.

Members of the Richwood Village Council have tabled an ordinance authorizing the village to ask for a one percent tax increase on November’s ballot.

More people are becoming conscious of “going green,” an effort in reducing waste and finding ways to recycle our waste. Some Richwood area residents have found a unique way of recycling plastic shopping bags and using them to help the homeless.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with other government, community, public health and law enforcement agencies across Ohio, will be partnering with the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration for the nationwide prescription drug “Take-Back.”

The Richwood-North Union Library has been selected as one of 17 libraries to receive a grant from the State Library of Ohio Board.

Grand jury indicts Spurgeon

A Union County Grand Jury has indicted Daniel L. Spurgeon, 26, of 18090 Route 739, of attempted murder, intimidation of an attorney, victim or witness in a criminal case, abduction and disrupting public services and on two counts of felonious assault. If convicted, he could face more than 35 years in prison.

Resident’s art talent enters NASCAR world
They say family is everything and to Andy Lutz, Jr., his family has led his talents to every state in America and even abroad.
Lutz’s family is well-known in the racing circuit. His father, Andy Lutz, Sr. began his love of racing in Hermitage Pa. racing on dirt tracks, in 1957. Before retiring, he had over 500 wins in his career, was inducted into the Hall of Fame and received the Living Legend Award in 2010.

Taste of Marysville expands to high school field house

New vendors, new food and a new location are just a few noticeable changes to this year’s Taste of Marysville.
In its ninth year, the third hosted by the Marysville Journal-Tribune, the Taste of Marysville has brought together local food vendors and Marysville residents for a night of fun.

Memorial Hospital offers program on healthy living
Memorial Hospital of Union County has developed a new Teaching Lifestyle Choices (TLC) program to educate participants on how easy simple lifestyle changes can be to improve a person’s overall well-being.

Community helps support local blood drive
The latest American Red Cross Blood Drive was held at the Richwood First United Methodist Church on Monday, March 19.

Multi-county burglary cases solved
The Union County Sheriff’s Office, along with law enforcement agencies in seven other central Ohio counties, have solved multiple burglaries.
During the past 11 months, a father and son team have been linked to 32 separate burglaries. All the counties involved in the investigation have agreed to prosecute all the cases through the Madison County Common Pleas Court.
