It’s a family tradition at the Richwood Fair

In a house with four sisters and you would think there’s a lot of drama, hormones, and arguing.
That’s not necessarily the case with Mikenzie Price, Peyton, Logan and Regan Martino. These four sisters show hogs at The Richwood Fair. This year will be a bitter sweet moment for them.

Council extends water agreement

Richwood Village Council members voted Monday to extend a non-binding agreement with AquaOhio, Inc.

Local gun club receives NRA grant

The Richwood Gun and Game Club announced the completion of the first phase of the club’s range improvement program. As part of this program, a “no-horizon” covered shooting position was built with funds from the National Rifle Association (NRA) Range Grant program for the club’s new 100 rifle range.

Board passes privatization resolution

The Union County Board of Developmental Disabilities (UCBDD) passed a resolution last week to develop and implement a plan to privatize adult day array services, hoping to save an estimated $10 million from its’ cumulative budget by 2020.

Office closed on Labor Day
The Richwood Gazette office will be closed Monday, September 3 for the Labor Day holiday. Regular hours will resume Tuesday, September 4. The newspaper will be published a day late and will be available on Thursday, September 6.

One week from today, a crowd will enter the gates of the Richwood Independent Fair. Six days of fun and hard work will take place Aug. 29 through Sept. 3, showcasing projects of 4-H and FFA students, displays of garden produce, antiques, woodworking and handiwork, games galore, the smell of fair food, musical entertainment, harness racing, horseshoe pitching,  just to name a few.

During the 1980’s, lost dogs and stray cats in Union County were dropped off into a dingy box and left to fend for themselves overnight. It must have been interesting for the Humane Society staff when they opened the lid each morning.

The Richwood Independent Fair has a very long history with harness racing. In fact, when the fair began Sept. 27, 1892, Richwood was well-known for horse racing. This year’s fair will be held Aug. 29 through Sept. 3.

 The Union County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by the Bureau of Criminal Investigations and Identifications (BCII), of the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, conducted a joint operation, on Wednesday, Aug. 8, that led to the seizure of 36 marijuana plants in the county.

The first reservoir for Water Beyond 2000, an upground reservoir project started by the City of Columbus, is at the half-way mark in the construction phase.

A Marysville man has been convicted in connection to the death of a 20-year-old Raymond woman.
A jury this week convicted Joshua H. Swihart, 26, of 18795 Smokey Road, of one count of aggravated vehicular homicide.
