As an abnormally mild Winter fades into Spring, people are beginning to make or finalize vacation plans. Plans that may normally revolve around beaches and high temperatures.

Council approves a storm study Hopes to correct flooding  in village

A recent decision by a Richwood area business to expand in another county, has prompted discussions on flood areas in the village and a possible storm study.

Girl Scouts celebrate the century mark
The Girl Scouts of America (GSA) will be celebrating a milestone on March 12 of this year as they recognize a major anniversary.

REAP food pantry relocates to Richwood Greene
The Richwood Emergency Assistance Program, (REAP Food Pantry) moved this week back to the newly remodeled "Richwood Greene" facility, located at 235 Grove Street in Richwood (formerly called Richwood Community Apartments). During the remodeling phase, the food pantry had been temporarily located behind North Union High School.

Humane Society ready to expand facilities
A recent anonymous gift  for the “Help Us Grow” expansion project, at the Union County Humane Society (UCHS) was received recently. Now the facility will be able to double the size of its facility from 3,000 square feet to more than 6,000 square feet.

Two residents plead guilty on drug charges
Daniel Lee Dewitt and Melanie Rose Sumner, both of 6 1/2 North Franklin Street in Richwood, have pleaded guilty to two counts of corrupting another with drugs in a Union County Court hearing. Both individuals could face as many as three years in prison.

Marcy Industries expands operations in Marion
A longtime Richwood business will be expanding its services into Marion.  Industries, of 200 West Ottawa Street, has acquired the former Tegrant Corp. building on Likens Road in Marion to continue its steel fabrication business on a larger level.

Grief Share program begins March 1
Many times when a loved one has passed away, families are left to deal with issues of grief and loss. A new program to support and guide those who are struggling begins March 1.

A change in busing for the 2012-2013 school year could save the North Union School District an estimated $1.4 million.
The North Union School Board voted Monday night to move forward with plans for single route busing to begin next school year.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a reported abduction and sexual assault that occurred on Friday, Feb. 3 on Paver Barnes Road, near Northwest Parkway in Marysville.

County Personal Needs Pantry Reopens
A local pantry serving more than 400 families each month reopened Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.
The Union County Personal Needs Pantry has been closed since just before Christmas in preparation for its move to the Hope Center on the corner of Chestnut and Sixth streets in Marysville.

FFA Members receive American FFA Degree
Two members of the North Union FFA chapter received the National FFA organization's highest honor. Cody Johnston and Grant Smith were presented with the American FFA Degree at the 85th National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Ind.

At last Monday’s village council meeting, council members suggested drafting a parking ordinance that would restrict where people may park their vehicles on the streets in town.

After a record-breaking 2011 fall campaign, the United Way of Union County Board of Trustees has decided where to allocate the money raised.
