Temple wins national award

Richwood area resident Jerry Temple has a new trophy on his shelves, one he is very proud of. He recently competed in the 30th Annual Cushman Club of America National meet in Perry, Ga. and brought home the first place hardware.

Richwood Village Council members are getting their ducks in a row, as they prepare to ask voters for additional monies on the November ballot.

Take a drive down Landon Road to 12123, the home of Charles and Chong Hui Minter and enjoy the beautiful, colorful flowers in their yard. But as Charles says, the front yard is just an appetizer to the rest of the property.

Local pantries to host car show

The Richwood Emergency Assistance Program (REAP) and the North Union Personal Needs Pantry (NUPNP) are inviting the public to a car show on Saturday, June 30. The special event will be held at the North Union High School, located at 401 North Franklin Street in Richwood from noon to 5 p.m.

Prospect hosting Fourth of July celebration

Make plans to travel to Prospect for their annual Fourth of July celebration on Wednesday, July 4. The party begins at 9:30 a.m. with the Big Bang 5K Fun Run and Walk. Pre-registration is available through the Elgin High School Athletic website for a small cost, or you can register the day of the event for an additional fee from 8 to 9 a.m. The race begins at the American Legion Hall at 308 S. Main Street in Prospect. Get your running/walking shoes ready! Proceeds from the race benefit the Elgin football program.

Office will be closed July 4th
The Richwood Gazette office will be closed on Wednesday, July 4th for the holiday. We will print the paper on our regular schedule, but it will be deliverd on Thursday instead of Wednesday. The office will resume regular hours on Thursday.

Beautiful weather for Springenfest event

When North Union Athletic Committee (NUAC) moved the annual Springenfest event to the Richwood Fairgrounds in 2009, last weekend’s event went off without a hitch. The two previous years brought rainy conditions, slowing down support for NUAC.

Summertime is filled with many outdoor events, such as car shows. Springenfest will take place Friday and Saturday at the Richwood Fairgrounds. The two-day festival is a place where families gather, people participate in the many athletic events, kids enjoy playing a variety of games, knowing that all the money raised will help North Union Schools.

Information from the Herald Dispatch of Huntington, W.Va., states that two suspects, Dylan Alexander Jarrels, 18 and Willie Jay Copley, 26, both of Dunlow, W.Va., were taken into custody on charges of first-degree murder and armed robbery.

Christine Blue, Finance Director/Treasurer of Delaware City Schools,was recently given the Central Region Distinguished Service Award at the 2012  annual conference of the Ohio Association of School Business Officials (OASBO). She also earned top honors as the overall winner of all regions and granted the Virginia Ramsey Service Award.

Education standards have been a big topic on all levels of government lately, and according to a study by the Kasich administration, about one percent of the schools will receive an "A" grade.

School is out for summer-must be time for the annual two-day Springenfest festival!
Make plans on Friday and Saturday, June 15 and 16 to visit the Richwood Fairgrounds from 5 to 11 p.m. There will be loads of fun events to participate in.
