Police and school officials work together on school safety

North Union Schools will soon be more prepared in lockdown situations.
Richwood Police Chief Monte Asher and Rick Smith, superintendent of North Union Schools, recently attended a lockdown training in Lancaster.

March is National Red Cross Month
If you were a victim of a natural disaster do you know where you would turn for help? What about a car accident or some other “disaster situation” where you needed help?

Area churches announce Easter Services
Easter Sunday is April 8 and local churches are inviting the public to attend events leading up to Easter. The public is invited to attend.

Jewelry store robber sentenced to prison

A would-be jewelry store robber, tackled by witnesses, is headed to prison.
Lane Michael Allen, 20, of 22751 White Stone Road, was sentenced this week to four years and 11 months in prison.

Man charged in shooting incident
A Richwood man has been arrested after allegedly firing at least one shot at his girlfriend.
Daniel L. Spurgeon, 26, of 18090 Route 739, Richwood, has been arrested, charged with one count each of felonious assault, abduction, and disrupting public services. If convicted on all charges, he could face more than 17 years in prison.

School is more than reading, writing and arithmatic

North Union Elementary School students told school board members how things have changed in the school this year and what they are doing. Dave Harmon, elementary school principal, presented a video to the board of students discussing what they are doing in the classroom and how teachers are keeping things interesting.

United Way recognizes businesses and employees
With 90 percent of its annual revenue coming from workplace giving, United Way of Union County honored the top-giving area businesses Wednesday at the LIVE UNITED Awards Banquet. Union County corporations and individuals came together to help United Way achieve its fundraising goal for the second straight year, surpassing the $900,000 mark for the first time en route to a $923,616 campaign.

Rock the Wood returns to Richwood
The fourth annual “Rock the Wood Foundation-Families in Need Campaign” is set to kick off Saturday, March 24.

Richwood Village Council members unanimously approved a letter of intent to investigate the possible sale of the village water and sewer systems to Aqua Ohio Inc.
Several Richwood residents attended Monday night’s meeting to voice concern about the possible privatization of the village systems.

Help raise funds for Relay For Life
The American Cancer Society is seeking teams for the Relay For Life of Union County.
Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society’s national signature, overnight fundraising activity. Teams of eight to 15 members gather with tents and sleeping bags to participate in the largest fundraising walk in the nation.

Spring Basket Giveaway a sign of spring
The Richwood Area Business Association (RABA) has announced their upcoming Spring Basket Giveaway contest The event is simple and free for public participation.

Local choir participates in Show Choir Spectacular
The Marion Palace Theatre will come alive with local show choirs Thursday, March 22.

Gazette to publish special Easter Services
The Richwood Gazette is inviting local area churches to share special Easter Services with the public.
The events will cover services from Palm Sunday through Easter Sunday. The deadline to get information published in the March 28 edition of The Richwood Gazette will be Thursday, March 22 by 4 p.m.

Housing available for low to middle income
The Housing Services Alliance Inc. (HSA) out of Washington Court House has been working to provide homes to families in Richwood.

Council to discuss privatizing water/sewer operations

Richwood Village Council has been approached by a water and waste management company interested in privatizing the village water.

Free tools track child’s development
All children develop at different rates, which can often lead parents to question if their child’s development is on track. Through free online screening tools, the Union County Health Department can now relieve some of these worries.
