Wildcats down Galion for first-ever playoff win

The 2012 North Union football team continued to make history on its home gridiron on Friday.
The Wildcats posted a 40-21 win over Galion in a Division IV, region
14 quarterfinal match. In the process, NU won the first playoff game in
school history on their fourth consecutive year in the tournament. In addition, the Cats set another school record with its 11th win of what remains an undefeated season.
Prescription drop-off box installed

The Richwood Police Department received a prescription drop-off box last week and officials invite the community to use it. The Union County
Sheriff’s Department, Richwood and Marysville Police Departments all received the secured boxes as a solution to help eliminate drug abuse in
the county.

Two arrested for heroin trafficking

Two men were arrested Nov 1 by the Union County Multi Agency Drug Enforcement Task Force (MADE). Shane A. Rentschler, 32, and Justin A. Blue, 31, both of Richwood, are charged with one count of engaging in corrupt activity, a felony of the second degree, for their roles in the trafficking of heroin.
Festival of Thanks to be held

The Richwood Area Ministerial Association is hosting the annual Richwood Community Festival of Thanks. The event will take place Sunday, Nov. 18, beginning at 7 p.m. It will be hosted at the Fulton Creek Evangelical Friends Church, located on the corner of Routes 4 and 37.

Children’s Hospital to build local facility

Nationwide Children’s Hospital is expanding into Union County.
Hospital officials recently confirmed this morning their intent to construct a Children’s Close to Home facility on north Coleman’s Crossing Boulevard in Marysville’s City Gate development.

When the remnants of Superstorm Sandy hit Ohio Oct. 29, it brought torrential winds, flooding, snow and ice. Downed trees and power lines left more than 250,000 Ohioans without power for a day. Sandy showed Ohio, the East Coast, and other states just how unpredictable weather can be. Sandy, with all of its devastating destruction, re-emphasizes the importance of severe weather safety and preparedness.
Library receives grant for computer lab

The Richwood-North Union Public Library recently received a mini-grant from the Library Services and Technology Act (LST), through the State Library of Ohio, in the amount of $10,527. Those funds were used to create a public computer lab in the library for public use.
Middle School students battle against bullying

It happens in every school, village or large city. Bullying has become a real problem. To help bring support against bullying, Cabot Rea, from NBC 4 television station in Columbus, visited North Union Middle School last week.
School board updating bus fleet

North Union School District may benefit from a pilot funding opportunity through the Environmental Protection Agency.
According to the EPA website, the program is a school bus replacement rebate offered to public and private fleets for clean diesel
projects as part of the Diesel Emission Reduction Program (DERA).
Christmas comes to town Dec. 1

It is time to light up Richwood as the village employees have spent countless hours preparing for the Saturday, Dec. 1 event. Holiday lights
and banners are in place downtown and at Richwood Park.
The fun begins at noon Dec. 1 at the Richwood-North Union Public Library. Businesses, civic groups and families are invited to put up a Christmas tree at the library, expressing their messages about the season. The purpose of the open house is to share tidings of good cheer with everyone in the community.
Area post offices to see changes

The United States Postal Service has established a review process for certain post offices known as the POST Plan. The plan is to look at the amount of workload each facility has and evaluate the needs under the POST Plan criteria. Locally, Magnetic Springs, LaRue, Green Camp and
West Mansfield post offices are currently being evaluated.
Football game to help local pantries

Area residents are hoping to raise donations for the Richwood Emergency Assistance Program (REAP Food Pantry) and the Personal Needs Pantry (PNP) by hosting a flag football game. The 1st annual REAP/PNP Flag Football Game will be held at the North Union High School football field on Sunday, Dec. 9 at 1 p.m.
