Taste of Marysville set for April 13
Will be first opportunity for residents to purchase tickets for Kellie Pickler concert

By LINDSAY CASTLE
The 2013 Taste of Marysville is just around the corner, and this year’s event will be more than just a preview of local food vendors; it will also give guests a taste of an event to come later this summer.
New and old vendors from around Union County will set up more than 20 booths to provide samples of a wide variety of foods from 5 to 9 p.m. on Saturday April 13 in the Marysville High School Field House, 800 Amrine Mill Road.
Admission is free, but to enjoy the tasty treats, guests will have to purchase taste tickets. The tickets are eight for $10.
“The United Way of Union County will receive $1 for each person who attends,” said Kevin Behrens, event coordinator. “Last year we gave $1,000 because we had just 987 people.”
United Way volunteers will be bussing tables and assisting guests to help things run smoothly.
“There is plenty of space in the field house,” said Behrens. “We won’t need to worry about there not being enough room for everyone.”
Elvis impersonator Mike Albert will entertain throughout the night with his “Ultimate Tribute” show to the late musician as guests “taste, chatter, and stroll.”
“We’ve stepped it up this year and we’re looking forward to the new entertainment and vendors at the 2013 Taste of Marysville,” said Marie Woodford, event coordinator.
Former Ohio State University football player Roy Hall will be at the event on behalf of the DRIVEN Foundation, a non-profit group that focuses on outreach events and motivational and fitness programs to families and youths throughout central Ohio. Hall also played for the Indianapolis Colts and the Detroit Lions.
This year’s vendors include Roosters, The Cheese House, Family Pizzeria, Starbucks, The Smiling Daisy Café, The Old Bag of Nails, Der Dutchman, Dutch Kitchen, Subway, Doc Henderson’s Restaurant, Doc’s Café and Wine Bar, Mosier’s Market, Asian Café Buffet and Grill, Culver’s, Buffalo Wild Wings Grill and Bar, McDonald’s, Jimmy John’s, The Ribbon Box, Tim Horton’s, Amish Heritage Market and Cold Stone. Several event sponsors will also be present during the Taste of Marysville.
“Mosier’s is going to be doing a drawing for two whole boneless New York loins cut and wrapped, valued at $100 each,” said Woodford. “They will also have a drawing for several gift cards. We are really looking forward to them joining us this year.”
In addition to vendors and entertainers, the Journal-Tribune will offer guests the opportunity to purchase tickets for another event held each summer.
In August, the All Ohio Balloon Fest will become a three-day event with country musician Kellie Pickler performing on Thursday, Aug. 15. Pickler is a former American Idol contestant and is currently a performer on Dancing with the Stars which airs Mondays on ABC.
Tickets are $15 each and will go on sale during the Taste of Marysville. They can be purchased at the Journal-Tribune booth near the drink booth.
Gates for the Pickler concert will open at 5 p.m. There will be no admittance without a ticket. Food vendors and the beer garden for the balloon fest will be open during the concert.
