Christmas cheer comes to Richwood Saturday

Excitement begins this Saturday when the Richwood-North Union Public Library “lights up.” Many businesses, individuals and groups are displaying Christmas trees at the local library to add holiday cheer. The Richwood Civic Center group will be hosting an open house in the library from noon to 4 p.m..
Union County Care Train goes “live”

The Care Train of Union County will be helping make the holidays more inviting when they hold their 26th annual event. The goal is to assist families in Union County who are having trouble making ends meet during the holidays.
Schools holds annual food drive

Students in the North Union Local School District have begun their annual drive of collecting non-perishable foods and personal needs items this week. All donations will be given to the Richwood Emergency Assistance Program (REAP Food Pantry) and the Personal Needs Pantry (PNP) and donations will be given to residents who find it difficult to make ends meet.
Public invited to free community dinner

The North Union High School Career Based Intervention Class will be hosting their 10th annual Free Community Christmas Dinner on Wednesday, Dec. 18. The event will be held in the high school cafeteria, 401 North Franklin Street in Richwood from 5 to 7 p.m.
Christmas services to be announced
Local churches are invited to submit special events happening during the Christmas season. A schedule of events will be published on Wednesday, Dec. 18 with dates and times.

Council compensates acting administrator

Village council members voted to compensate Police Chief Monte Asher, who is also filling the role of acting village administrator during Monday night’s meeting. Council was unanimous (councilman Von Beal was absent from the meeting) in the vote to make the compensation retroactive from Oct. 30, 2013 to current and moving forward until they decide if a new full-time administrator will be hired. He will receive 50 percent of the village administrator’s salary. Asher filled the position after the current administrator, Lin Hensley, had resigned.
Richwood man receives seven-year sentence

A Richwood man will serve seven years in prison after selling the heroin that led to a victim’s overdose.
Lucas Tumeo, 26, of 23 Graham Lane, was sentenced to a total of seven years in prison in Union County Common Pleas Court Tuesday. He received 12 months for one count of trafficking heroin, 12 months consecutive for a second count of trafficking heroin and another 12 months consecutive for a third trafficking heroin count.

Robotics teams to compete for state

Saturday was a cold, windy day, but 29 middle school robotics teams from Marion Grant, Highland, Lexington, Elgin, Ridgedale, Bellefontaine and Ben Logan competed with North Union middle school students. North Union represented eight of the teams in the competition and had an excellent day while hosting this event. Three of the local teams formed the winning alliance and were declared tournament champions after a very
tough, but successful run of match wins.

including several Mid Ohio Athletic Conference titles and appearances in the playoffs, under the tutelage of head coach Jesse Miller.
