Safety tips for winter weather

So the first measurable snowfall has hit and it’s time to remind drivers and homeowners, about safety tips, at home and on the roadways.

Residents connect to hotline for help
This month, Union County residents will be able to dial 2-1-1 and be connected to a 24/7 hotline for information and referral to access local human services.

Water, water everywhere
Village employees spent the wee hours of Sunday night repairing a main water line which broke in front of the village administration office at 153 North Franklin Street.

A year-end activity report from Northern Union County Fire Department Chief Randy Riffle states that during the 2012 year, a total of 694 fire and EMS calls were reported.

New Heart and Surgical Pavilion to open at Memorial Hospital

Memorial Hospital of Union County will open its Heart and Surgical Pavilion and invites the public to a community open house on Saturday, Jan. 19, from 4 to 6:30 p.m. The event will be held  at 500 London Avenue in Marysville in the campus pavilion. Come meet the staff and enjoy light refreshments and enter to win raffle prizes and giveaways. For the younger set, special appearances will be made by Spiderman and Cinderella.

Engineer’s Employees of the Year announced

Last December, County Engineer’s employees nominated 15 of their co-workers for Employee of the Year based upon considerations of their duties and the guiding principles of the organization. Four recipients were selected on criteria that included quality of work, innovation, organizational commitment, dependability and customer service.

Village council welcomes new member
Richwood Bank seeks permission for new structure

Members of the Richwood Village Council began their Monday night meeting by voting in a new council member. Former councilman Von Beal was voted as the newest member, who fills the seat of Todd Hoffman, who recently moved outside of the village limits. Veal served on council during 2004-10 and is very familiar with the operations of the village.

Flu-related hospitalizations climb in Ohio
Flu activity remains a concern across Ohio as well as across the country this winter. The Ohio Department of Health (ODH) reminds all Ohioans that it’s not too late to get vaccinated against the flu.

Police department shares 2012 report

Police Chief Monte Asher states that the 2012 annual report shows anincrease in calls of service of 1,788 compared to 1,276 calls recorded in 2011.
Asher also mentions  there was an increase in drug reports for the year. The police department continues to update training and working with the Multi-Agency Drug Enforcement (MADE) team comprised of The Marysville Police Department, Union County Sheriff’s Office, Richwood Police Department and The Plain City Police Department.

Hall of Pride nominations sought

The North Union High School  Hall of Pride selection committee is seeking nomination information on Richwood High School or North Union High School graduates. A maximum of three alumni will be selected based on outstanding accomplishments, honors or recognition in athletics, medicine, business, education, humanitarian pursuits or service to the school or community.

Richwood Banking Company to expand operations

Founded in 1867, The Richwood Banking Company is the fifth oldest company in central Ohio and is one of the village’s largest employers. So to keep up with the times and technology, it makes sense that they would want to expand their operations and services at the home office.

A Richwood man is headed to prison for more than half a decade after pleading guilty to being part of an organized crime operation trafficking in heroin.

Weather conditions last Friday had travelers and emergency personnel busy throughout the state of Ohio. An accident on Route 31, between Miller and Richwood Miller Road claimed the life of one and injured two others.

Sheriff Jamie Patton announced the 2012 Deputy of the Year for the Union County Sheriff’s Office (UCSO) is Rod Wilson.

Freetax help in Marysville

It’s income tax time and for those who qualify, free tax preparation will be available.
Volunteer tax services will be held in Marysville today from noon to 8 p.m. and again on Saturday, Feb. 2, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for those whose incomes are $53,000 or less and will electronically file federal and state tax returns.

UW distributes more money than ever before 43 programs in Union County receive funding in 2013

For the fifth straight year, United Way of Union County will issue a record-level of financial support to local programs that support thousands of Union County residents. The Board of Trustees approved $725,370 in allocations at its Jan. meeting. That’s up 6.6 percent from last year’s total. The local non-profit organization is able to make that investment even though donations to the annual campaign were off about $10,000 from a year ago.
