The first day of the 2015-16 school year for students attending the Harold Lewis Center started last week.

RABA discusses summer events
The Richwood Area Business Association held their July 14 monthly meeting to discuss upcoming events in the community.

NU Schools offer online registration

Parents of North Union students returning to school for the 2015-2016 school year, will notice something different - a lack of paper. Instead of the stacks of paper forms that parents had to complete  in previous years, returning student registration will be done online. North Union has partnered with InfoSnap to create a secure, online registration environment. The goals for implementing the new system are to streamline the registration process for families, and obtain updated and accurate student information.

EPA requires backflow prevention testing

The village of Richwood is required by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to have all commercial businesses in the village compliant with their regulations.

Farmers Market hosts summer harvest festival
The Union County Farmers Market will host its Summer Festival on Saturday, Aug. 8 ,from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.  at Partners Park, S. Main Street, Marysville.

School will begin in a few weeks, so that means the Richwood Independent Fair is right around the corner. Mark your calendars for Sept. 2-7 for six days of fun and entertainment at the Richwood fairgrounds.

Mid Ohio free produce day cancelled

The North Union Personal Needs Pantry and Richwood Emergency Assistance Program (REAP) have announced that they are terminating the free produce day that was being held monthly at the Richwood Park.  The program, originally scheduled to be held the 3rd Tuesday of each month through October, ended Tuesday, July 21.

Love of lambs becomes a business for Amstutz

She’s ten years old, her second year showing in 4-H and she’s already won Grand Champion Market Lamb at the Ohio State Fair, and won Reserve Champion and Third overall with other lambs. She also was placed second out of the top three overall as an outstanding market exhibitor in the lamb division at the fair.

Family is recovering from flooded home

Life changed for Anthony and Melissa Vanhoose on June 15, when Richwood received over five inches of rain within hours and the family is still recovering from the devastation. They have lived in their home on W. Bomford Street for nine years.

Council approves resolutions to benefit the village

Richwood village council members met Monday evening and unanimously approved two resolutions. The first resolution was to approve the Economic Development Incentive Policy (EDIP). The purpose of the EDIP is to promote businesses to come by negotiating economic development incentives with existing and potential companies, promote cooperation between and among various Union County governmental entities with Tax Increment Financing, Enterprise Zone Tax Sharing, Joint Economic Development, reducing tax competition and establish guidelines for the approval of economic development incentives for future businesses.

Ohigro, Inc. will celebrate their 50th year in the fertilizer business on Friday, Sept. 4, of this year. During those fifty years, they have grown to having three locations in Waldo, Richwood and Delaware. They have invited their customers to a 50th anniversary celebration on Thursday, Aug. 27, at All Occasions Catering on Waldo-Delaware Road.

Parish is new North Union school district nurse
The North Union board of education has hired Amanda Parish as the district nurse for the North Union Local School District. She was hired at the June 29 school board meeting on a one-year limited expiring certificated contract, effective Aug. 1, 2015.

Voters will have choices on Nov. 3 ballot

The deadline passed Aug. 6 for anyone filing to be included on the Nov. 3 ballot. Members of the Union County Board of Elections do not have potential write-in candidates listed yet, since they have until Aug. 24 to file.

School board makes last hires before school begins

The North Union Board of Education met Monday evening and approved contracts for additional employees before the doors open Monday, Aug. 24 for the first day of school.

Library seeking historic pictures of Richwood

The Richwood-North Union Public Library is seeking help from the community in gathering photographs depicting historical Richwood and Northern Union County. The images will be used to create a permanent display around the local history room in the library.

The Richwood Gazette office, due to vacation, will be open Monday, Aug. 24 through Friday, Aug. 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day. Advertising deadline will remain the same, Friday, Aug. 28, by noon.

Richwood Fair celebrates 123 years of agriculture

The 123rd annual Richwood Independent Fair begins Wednesday, Sept. 2, and runs through Labor Day, Sept. 7. The public is encouraged to attend six fun-filled days and celebrate Richwood’s rich heritage of agriculture.

The Board of Health helps with local hunger issues

During last Wednesday’s Board of Health meeting at the Union County Health Department (UCHD), the board approved separate contracts with North Union schools and the Union County Farmers Market. Both organizations are implementing programs to combat hunger.

Plans for park walking trail progressing

Plans to pave the first portion of a walking trail in the Richwood Village Park are progressing quickly.

Village hires three new employees

The village recently added two full-time and one part-time employees to the payroll. The work staff was down to two employees when one died unexpectedly and another one found employment with the local school system. Village Administrator Monte Asher found that much needed to be done in the village and hiring additional staff was the only answer.
