Local residents writes first book

Ashley Beery knew when she graduated from North Union High School in 2003, that she wanted a career in criminology. She said that her psychology classes she took at Ohio Northern University were finally paying off. She received a Criminal Justice degree from Marion Technology University in 2006. She has been employed at the Delaware City Police Department as a record’s clerk for eight years.

Honda-OSU Math Medal Awards given to Union County students

Three high school seniors in Union County recently received the Honda-OSU Math Medal Award from a partnership between Honda and The Ohio State University. These awards recognize the top senior mathematics students in 232 high schools in southwest and central Ohio.

Help ring in the Christmas Spirit

It is almost here-the Christmas Spirit is coming to town this Saturday.

Free Community Christmas dinner set

Twelve years ago, Cy Kincaid, a teacher at North Union High School teaching the Career Based Intervention students, organized his class to sponsor a free dinner for community residents, as a way of helping others. The students learned about raising funds to purchase the food, got door prizes to give away, and learned how to cook and serve the meal.

County prepares for winter
The Union County Engineer’s Office was recently notified of the cost for rock salt for this winter season. As in past years, they have participated in a joint contract with the Ohio Department of Transportation, as part of a large pool of customers to help minimize material cost increases.

Churches offering special holiday events
The Richwood Gazette is inviting local area churches to announce any special Christmas events taking place during the holidays. The special announcements will be published in the Dec. 16 edition of the newspaper.

The committee for the Richwood Lake Park Trail is again asking for input from the public.

Richwood Council reveals village flag

The Richwood Village Council held a competition for anyone to design a flag for the village. During the Nov. 23 council meeting, solons voted on the winning design. Council member George Showalter won the contest and will receive a free one-year subscription to The Richwood Gazette, sponsored by Mayor Scott Jerew.

NUHS Art Club announces RW Gallery

The North Union Art Club has been given a section of the Richwood-North Union Public Library for their art exhibits. This new area is called the “RW Gallery.” The area is located near the meeting room in the library.
Every other month, the club plans to hold an exhibit of artwork for the public’s enjoyment. This month, the featured artist is Marie Masters.

Richwood Council says goodbye to two leaders

Richwood Village Council members expressed their appreciation to Teresa McElroy, who has served five years as a council member. McElroy opted not to run in the November election.

NU School Board finishes up 2015

The North Union Board of Education held their regular meeting on Monday, Dec. 14, a week earlier than normal, due to the school district being on Christmas break Dec. 21 through Jan. 3. The meeting was held at the administrative offices.

Local churches announce events

Several area churches are hosting special events during the Christmas Season, and they want to invite the public to attend as many special services as they wish.

Last Thursday was Hospitality Night in Richwood, where businesses offered specials for customers. It was also the last opportunity for people to sign-up to win a free pie in the annual Pie Giveaway Contest, sponsored by the Richwood Area Business Association. Winners are listed below:

A new part-time police officer has joined the Richwood Police Department. At last Monday’s council meeting, Mayor Scott Jerew and Police Chief Monte Asher issued the oath of office during the swearing in ceremony for Jim Hill.

Heifer Festival recounts support

You have heard the phrase “it takes a village to raise a child.” The same logic can be said for any community event, such as the recent Heifer Festival, held at North Union Elementary this fall.

In-home care costs to be shared

Beginning next year, senior residents receiving in-home care from Union County Senior Services will be required to pay their share.

Office closed Friday, Dec.25
Because Christmas Day falls on Friday, the Richwood Gazette will be closed. The business will resume normal office hours on Monday, Dec. 28.

Chris Felzke, the new owner, has 20 years auto body experience in painting, collision and custom work on vehicles. He specializes in late model collision repair, and accepts all insurance claims. He guarantees satisfaction on every job.
