School board hires new staff at end of district’s fiscal year

The North Union Board of Education met Monday evening to finalize items for the end of the 2014-15 fiscal school year. Board member Dennis Hall was absent from the meeting.

Medication dispensing exercise successful

How quickly can medication be dispensed to thousands of people in the event of a public health emergency? That was the question on the minds of Union County Health Department officials during a June 18 exercise. The exercise, held at a Northwest Columbus high school, involved more than 320 volunteers and over 120 staff from 11 central Ohio health departments.

New restrictions for probationary drivers

Drivers issued a probationary license will face restrictions on when they can drive and how many passengers are allowed in the car while driving based on experience instead of age. This change, beginning July 1, 2015, is a result of “Ohio’s Drive Toward a Safer Ohio Initiative,” and is an effort to increase the level of experience for Ohio’s young drivers.

Volunteer for Community First Day at the Union County Fair!

Volunteers are needed to help United Way staff the entrance gates on Community First Day, of the 2015 Union County Fair, Sunday, July 26.  Teams of volunteers will work each gate, collecting school supplies and non-perishable food items in lieu of full-price admission tickets for entry into the fair.

Council approves renewal levy for ballot

The Richwood Village Council members approved ordinance 06012015, which is the renewal of a 1.2 mil levy. Due to time constraints, council suspended the three-reading rule so that the county auditor can certify the millage and the board of elections can put it on the Nov. 3 ballot.

New School Superintendent Rich Baird sat in the North Union School Board meeting for Rick Smith, who will be assuming his new position as superintendent of High Point Career Center, Aug. 1. Smith was on vacation and absent from the meeting, along with board members Kevin Crosthwaite and Dennis Hall.

Memorial Health recognized during awards

Memorial Health received two of the top awards during the prestigious Columbus CEO magazine 2015 HR Excellence awards event on July 14. Larry Schleeter, Chief Human Resources Officer for Memorial Health, received the 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award. The Memorial Meals program won the 2015 Good Works Award for the work by Memorial Hospital staff and its volunteers to provide nutritious meals for senior citizens and others who need assistance.
