Farmers Market opens in Richwood

The Union County Richwood Farmers Market officially opened Monday evening with ribbon cutting ceremonies held in the parking lot of the Richwood-North Union Public Library, 4 E. Ottawa Street.

North Union is a "three-peat" in the Spielman Gridiron Classic

The North Union High School has again, won the Spielman Gridiron Classic for the third consecutive year. The committee recently sent in $8,900 which is earmarked towards the Stephanie Spielman Breast Cancer Fund. The prize for raising the most money is a $5,000 scholarship for North Union students.

Have fun with the Summer Reading Club
The Richwood-North Union Public Library is the place to be this summer. Summer Reading Club begins Saturday, June 13, with our big Kick-Off Party. It doesn’t matter if you are two or 92, come to the party and get signed up. There will be snacks, activities and free giveaways.

Memorial seeks grants for mobile meals program

Thursday night the Board of Trustees of Memorial Hospital began the process of shoring up funding for the Memorial Meal program for 2016.

Village council met Monday and the first order of business was Mayor Scott Jerew swearing in  Officer Eric Nicholson as a part-time officer for the Richwood Police Department.

Avian flu has caused cancelations in Ohio

The Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) has released a statement canceling all live bird exhibitions this year, due to the deadly Avian Flu that other states are struggling with the effects of the virus.

"Trail Gate 2K15" planned at park for Aug. 1

Organizers have planned for a one-day event to be held in Richwood Park, called “Trail Gate 2K15.” The date is Saturday, Aug. 1, and the committee would like the public to mark that date on their calendars to be sure to attend.

This year’s Fourth of July will have people celebrating their independence with potlucks, parties, ball games and fireworks.

The Richwood First United Methodist Church welcomes the public to a musical treat on Sunday, June 28. Accomplished pianist/organist Keith Becker, who has played the organ at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Prospect for many years, will play the historic pipe organ at the First UMC.

Traffic patterns change during road construction

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) has released areas in northern Union County with different traffic patterns. All work is weather dependent and may be postponed or canceled without prior notice.

Brown earns Eagle Scout rank

Adam Brown, son of Reddy and Michelle Brown of Richwood, received the highest recognition in the Boys Scouts of America on April 9, Eagle Scout. He is a member of the Boy Scout Troop 440 in Richwood and the sponsor of the troop is the Richwood First United Methodist Church.

Another specialty crop “hops” into Union County

Mike Ford enjoys his 20-acre farm where he can grow a variety of things. He moved from Dublin in 2014 and bought a farm on Claibourne Road. His plan was to grow hops. Hops are a perennial herb with lobed leaves and green flowers that resemble pinecones. The dried flowers of the plant, yielding an oil, that is used in brewing beer.

Memorial Hospital opening wound care center

Area residents who suffer with chronic, non-healing wound issues, will have a local treatment option when Memorial Hospital opens a new wound care center with specially trained clinical staff offering state-of-the-art treatment. The center will be located at 483 Coleman’s Crossing Boulevard in Marysville, and is planned to open later this year.

Council approves application for funding

Richwood village council members suspended the rules to pass Resolution Number 06012015, which authorizes application to the Ohio Public Works Commission for funding the E. Ottawa Street reconstruction project. Mayor Scott Jerew was absent from the meeting and council president Jack Moore presided over the meeting.

Sheriff’s Office investigates fatal crash

On Saturday, June 19, at approximately 11:44 p.m., the Union County Sheriff’s Office received a 9-1-1 call reporting a suspicious vehicle on fire on May Street in Magnetic Springs. When deputies arrived, they found a 1997 Dodge Caravan Sport engulfed in flames and partially stuck in flood waters near the edge of the roadway.

Prospect announces 4th of July events

The annual Fourth of July festivities are planned to kick-off Saturday, July 4 at the Prospect Community Park. Prospect Lions, Battle Run Fire Department and the American Legion Post 368 are sponsoring the events.
