Voter turnout low for General Election

Voters went to the polls in lower than normal numbers in Union County Tuesday. Information on Issues 1, 2 and 3 were unavailable at press time.

The family of a Richwood man has said they are taking comfort in knowing his death will help others live.

Prospect Lions Club celebrates
70 years of community service
The Prospect Lions Club, a community and humanitarian service organization and a member of Lions Clubs International, will celebrate the Club’s 70th Anniversary with an Open House on Thursday, Nov. 12. This event will take place at the Prospect Senior Center, 318 North Elm Street, Prospect, from 5 to 6:15 p.m.  Guest speaker for the evening is Past District Governor, George Poppy, a long-time supporter of the Prospect Lions Club.

RABA announces holiday events

The Richwood Area Business Association recently met for their monthly meeting. Joan Coughlin, from the Better Business Bureau, was the guest speaker. She talked about “The Psychology of Financial Scams.” She discussed the importance to train fraud fighters nationwide about financial fraud.

Public participation needed for survey

Members of the Richwood Lake Park and Trail and Richwood Village Council need public input for the proposed trail around Richwood Lake.

Students will honor veterans Nov. 11
North Union Elementary School students are preparing to pay tribute to community heroes during their annual Veterans Day celebration.  The event will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 11,  from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the elementary school, 420 Grove Street, Richwood.

Notice to Gazette readers
The U. S. Postal Service will be closed on Wednesday, Nov. 11, in honor of Veterans Day. The Richwood Gazette will still be delivered to newsstands and be available on Wednesday, Nov. 11, but subscribers will have to wait an extra day to receive their newspapers in the mail. The post office will deliver them on Thursday, Nov. 12. We are sorry for the inconvenience, but remember to thank a veteran for their service to our country.

NU Agronomy wins Nationals again

Can you say Three-peat! This is the third consecutive year that the North Union High School FFA Agronomy team has won the Agronomy Career Development Event (CDE) at the national level, at the 88th Annual National FFA Convention and Expo, held in Louisville, Kentucky.

Council receives grant for water meters

Mayor Scott Jerew announced at Monday night’s regular council meeting that the Bureau of Worker’s Comp awarded a safety intervention grant in the amount of $19,595.25. Council matched the grant with $6,531.75 to receive 75 pit set radios for reading water meters.

Festival of Thanks invites public

Get into the holiday spirit by attending the annual Festival of Thanks, held Sunday, Nov. 22. The event will begin at 7 p.m. at the Community United Calvary Church, located at 273 Race Street in Richwood.

Fresh fruits and veggies come to Richwood
Since the closing of the Richwood Cardinal grocery store, residents have found it frustrating not to be able to buy fresh produce for their meals. That problem is now solved.

New Path Pregnancy Resource Center

A merger of facilities has taken place in Union and Logan counties. The Union County Pregnancy Care Center and the Hi Point Women’s Center of Bellefontaine, will now be known as New Path Pregnancy Resource Center (New Path PRC). They will share a common mission-to provide women, men and families in both counties with pregnancy, counseling and material support. The support center in Richwood, will also be a part of the New Path PRC.

Board meets National Agronomy team

The North Union FFA National Champion Agronomy team was introduced at Monday night’s regular school board meeting. Their adviser, Jared Evans introduced Robert Kramer, Grace Hall, Claire Wolfe and Mikaela Ramsey to the audience and noted this was the third consecutive year the North Union FFA Agronomy team has taken home the top honors in the nation.

RABA discusses upcoming events

Members of the Richwood Area Business Association met Nov 10 for their monthly meeting, with 22 members in attendance at the Richwood Marketing building. The meeting was hosted by Richwood Bank and Richwood Marketing.

Smith receives National FFA’s highest honor
Nevin Smith, former North Union FFA adviser, was selected to receive the Honorary American FFA Degree–Teacher. Nevin was the only teacher selected from Ohio to receive this award.

Thanksgiving Holiday Schedule
The Richwood Gazette office will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 26, so staff can enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday. The office will be open regular hours on Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Due to printing schedules and the post office closed on Thanksgiving, the Richwood Gazette will not be delivered to subscribers or newsstands until Friday, Nov. 27.
We wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving holiday.

Grand marshals have history with Richwood

The Richwood Area Business Association (RABA) selects each year a grand marshal for the annual Christmas parade. This year’s honorees are Esther Anderson and Chuck Barry, both longtime residents and business owners in Richwood.

FFA members receive American degrees

Bethany Dresback and Shelby Furer walked the stage at the 88th National FFA Convention in Louisville, Kentucky to receive their American FFA Degree, the highest degree the FFA offers. Of the over 600,000 FFA members, less than three percent earn the American FFA Degree.

Richwood council hears details of water line break

Mayor Scott Jerew explained the boil alert the village was issued last weekend. A local business hired a contractor to hook up their fire suppression system when the shut off valve was accidentally knocked off.
