Union County Sheriff asks for no vote on legalizing marijuana
From Union County Sheriff Jamie Patton
On Nov. 3, 2015, you will make a decision on Issue 3 and Issue 2. As you know, this issue will allow marijuana to become more prevalent in our communities. As your County Sheriff, I’m writing to ask that you vote NO in Issue 3. This issue will create a legalized drug cartel in Ohio. This means they will operate a monopoly on marijuana sales in Ohio. Issue 2 will stop the monopoly process, if Issue 3 passes. Therefore, I’m asking you to vote YES on Issue 2 and NO on Issue 3.

A history of the Richwood-North Union Public Library
Editor’s note: This is a series on the history of the village’s local public library that was prepared by Richwood resident Barbara Holcomb. She gathered information from Charles Barry (local historian), Judy Lawler (former library director), and current library director, Sarah Moore. She was also assisted by Ann Holcomb and the local Carpe Diem club.
The spacious public library that we enjoy today is the legacy of Philip Plummer, a Methodist minister from Mt. Vernon, Ohio, who designated a parcel of land as the site of a future library on a plat he recorded with the Union County Auditor in 1832.

A history of the Richwood-North Union Public Library
Editor’s note: This is the second of a three part series of the history of the Richwood-North Union Public Library, written by Richwood resident Barbara Holcomb.
Back in 1832, Philip Plummer had laid down conditions for the establishment of a library on Lot 44. There must be: a board of trustees and a total holding of two hundred books. Before those conditions could be met, however, an Act of the State Legislature restored many of the lots donated for public use back to Mr. Plummer. This was done before the village was incorporated in 1855. It is interesting to note that the First National Bank building was closed during the Depression; it was on the lot adjacent to Lot 44 and would house the library for many years (1936-1974).

A history of the Richwood-North Union Public Library
Editor’s note-this is part three and the conclusion to the article reliving the history of the Richwood-North Union Public Library, located at 4 E. Ottawa Street in Richwood.

Finding a suitable site for the new library posed a challenge. According to the minutes and Mrs. Langstaff’s research, the only available site was a property on N. Franklin Street that was formerly Benton’s Garage. It was purchased by the board and discovered at a later date that it was unsuitable for a number of reasons. Fortunately, the board was able to sell the property, and when the E. Ottawa location became available (after an oil company decided not to purchase it for a filling station), it was unanimously agreed to be the best possible location.
