Richwood resident recounts Pearl Harbor event

Seventy-five years ago on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 1941, Japan’s surprise attack on Pearl Harbor was a historic blow to America. This week, hundreds of Pearl Harbor survivors, World War II veterans and their families are remembering the anniversary of the attack and honoring the legacy of those who served and who paid the ultimate sacrifice. A Richwood survivor recounts his part during the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Septic system permits must be renewed

Union County residents who own property with a septic system received an application to renew their operation permit this week from the Union County Health Department. The Union County Health Department mailed approximately 9,000 septic system permit applications Friday in compliance with statewide sewage rules that took effect Jan. 1, 2015.

Wreaths Across America honor veterans
The Victor A. Hammond Union County Civil Air Patrol (CAP) Unit 234 will be participating in Wreaths Across America at the Union County Veterans Monument at the courthouse on Saturday, Dec. 17. The event will begin at approximately noon. The public is invited to attend the ceremony. Seven ceremonial wreaths will be placed at the monument to remember those who served, to honor their sacrifices and to teach our younger generations about the high cost of our freedoms.

The Southeast Hardin-Northwest Union Joint Fire District has added new support to their fleet and coverage.

Students’ math skills add up to excellence
There were 24 North Union High School students who participated Friday, Dec. 9, at the Ohio State University, Marion Branch, (OSUM) in a math competition. About 200 students from eight area schools, solved problems ranging from Algebra to Calculus.

Record donations greet Care Train’s 30th auction
While it was a record in terms of dollars, the number that Care Train officials want to focus on is 30.

Newspaper publishes a day late during holidays
The Richwood Gazette will be publishing a day late during the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.
The papers will be available on newsstands and mailed to subscribers on Thursday, Dec. 29, and Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017. This will allow the staff time to celebrate with their families.
We do wish all of our family and friends a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year!

Parish enters plea to avoid murder charge

The woman accused of helping kill a Richwood man has entered a plea to avoid a possible murder conviction.

The Union County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors has appointed separate directors to lead the Union County Chamber of Commerce and the Union County Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB). 

Sheriff warns of scam calls

The Union County Sheriff’s Office has received multiple calls from Union County residents involving individuals impersonating a deputy. Individuals are making fraudulent calls wherein the caller attempts to obtain money by representing themselves as a deputy from the Sheriff’s Office.
