Richwood Area Business Association discusses upcoming summer events

The Richwood Area Business Association has several events planned for this summer and fall and they hope the public will join in.

Kales fulfill endowment pledge

On Feb. 28, 2011, Eilene Kale pledged to support a $50,000 endowment fund to benefit lung cancer research. She did this to honor her husband, DeLynn Kale, who had passed away earlier from the disease.

Lyme Disease reported in Couanty

The Union County Health Department received report of two cases of Lyme disease this past week. These are the first two cases reported in Union County in 2016. Health officials are encouraging residents to take precautions to prevent tick bites when working or playing in outdoor areas.

Ballinger leaves police department

Lt. Marcus Ballinger, of the Richwood Police Department, has announced that he will begin a new position with the Sharon Township Police Department in the Worthington area June 1.

NU FFA named Top Ten Chapter in Ohio

The North Union FFA Chapter was recently named top ten chapter by the Ohio State FFA Association in two different categories and only one of thirty chapters to receive a gold emblem award. Out of the over 400 FFA chapters in the state, the North Union FFA was selected in the student and chapter divisions. These awards were given out at the 88th Ohio FFA Convention by the State FFA Association.

Lincoln Goodwin, son of Tim and Kristy Goodwin of West Mansfield, is working on the completion of his Eagle Scout project. Last week, with assistance from two village employees, he built a bat house and had it installed near Richwood Lake.

Prospect gets utility building

Prospect Village Council was able to purchase land from the former Elgin South Elementary for a dollar, when the school district built a campus-style building for K-12 grades in 2014.

Know your safety tips for lightning

Don’t take chances during a lightning storm—going outside, staying in the pool, or continuing a softball game as thunder sounds in the distance, are not safe activities when lightning and thunder are in the area. Instead, move indoors when thunder roars. Taking simple steps could save more than 400 people from getting struck by lightning every year.

Veterans appreciated Honor Flight

The Honor Flight began in 2005, when a physician from Springfield wanted to pay tribute to those veterans who served in the military, a way to thank them for their service. Honor Flight is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing veterans with honor and closure.

Board recognizes Martin’s retirement

The North Union Board of Education recognized Diana Martin at Wednesday night’s meeting. Martin began at North Union in 1989 and has been principal at North Union middle and high schools.

Council approves ordering new SUV

Richwood Village Council members voted to accept a bid for a 2017 Ford Utility Police Interceptor at Monday night’s regular meeting. The SUV will be purchased with a $25,000 JAG grant through the State of Ohio. The quote of $26,758 came in from Bob Chapman Ford in Marysville. The remaining balance and extra equipment being installed will be paid for by funds from the police department budget, which will be less than $5,000.

Office closed Monday, July 4
Because of Independence Day Monday, July 4 the Richwood Gazette office will be closed and the newspaper will be published a day late. The business will resume normal office hours and printing schedule on Tuesday, July 5. Have a safe holiday!
