NU Elementary team wins state

North
Union Elementary’s robot-bearing students from VEX IQ Robotics Team #143E secured the Elementary Excellence Award at the Ohio VEX IQ State Championship that was held here at North Union Middle School last weekend. The students collaborated with 30 teams from around Ohio, including several local teams from North Union Elementary and Middle Schools, Pleasant Elementary and Middle Schools, Fairbanks Elementary, Grant Middle School, and Hayes Elementary in Marion, as well as teams from Carrollton Exempted Village Schools in Carrollton, Ohio, and Brookside Intermediate School from Sheffield, Ohio.

NU Robotics teams head to world competition

culminating event for VEX Robotics “Nothing But Net” 2016 competition season, took place over the weekend at Marion Harding High School. On Friday, 25,middle school teams from around Ohio competed in the middle school division of the Ohio VEX State Championship, including six
teams from North Union Middle School. After 44 qualifying matches, all six NUMS teams were selected to move on the elimination tournament. After quarter final competition, four NUMS teams survived and moved to the semi finals rounds. In the semi finals rounds, NU teams #4810D (Eli
Mishler, Dawson Kiess, Casey Rensel, Jake Willis) and #4810G (Connor Brandt, Derek Ballinger, Garrett Frasca) formed an alliance together and
after winning one match, lost the next two matches to be eliminated. On the other side of the bracket, NU team #4810 (Nathan Matlack, Kinlee
Craig, Evan Hoffer, Mack Plotner, Averi Snider) was up against another NU team, #4810E (Adrianna Woodruff, McKynzie Goad, Calvin Harvey, Logan Fryman). After another tough three matches, #4801E won and their first seeded alliance went on to win the entire tournament. On a three-team alliance together with teams from Grant Middle School and Highland Middle, NU #4810E were named Tournament Champions and are now qualified to compete at the VEX Robotics World Championship in Louisville, Kentucky, in April.
There’s no place like home

Dotson Woods was like every other teenager, once they graduate high school, they can’t wait to move away from home and be an adult. And she did. She graduated from North Union High School in 1987 and went on to Ohio University, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Interior Design in 1991. She was hired by a company called Steelcase, and was sent to their Atlanta, Georgia branch, where she worked for seven years.

Richwood Area Business Association has announced winners of hanging baskets during their Spring Hanging Basket Giveaway. Several businesses in Richwood participated in the event. Customers were invited to enter their name and phone number, with no purchase necessary.
Suspect flees scene, later apprehended

A
Richwood Police Officer was running radar on Route 47 E. when a gold 2006 Chevy Cobalt passed the officer, speeding out of the village. Officer Justin Baldwin pursued the vehicle, turning on his siren and lights. The vehicle began weaving in his lane, and pulled into a driveway, near Landon Road. The driver of the vehicle ran out of the car, heading northwest through some houses.
Shots fired at two Amish homes

Two
homes owned by Amish families were shot at between 1:30 and 1:45 a.m. Sunday morning, according to a release from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office last Tuesday. No one was injured.
