A local babysitter is facing felony charges, accused of abusing a baby
in her care.
Drug Take Back Day a success
Sheriff
Jamie Patton said the latest National Drug Take Back Day was again a
huge success. The National Prescription Drug Take Back day was held
Saturday, Oct. 22, at the Sheriff’s Office in Marysville, the Richwood
Police Department in Richwood, and in Plain City at the Pleasant
Valley Fire District Station. The total combined weight of drugs turned
in at all three locations amounted to approximately 95 pounds. “The
response we have seen from the public on these drug take back days, as
well as the twenty-four-hour drug drop off boxes has been
overwhelming and reinforces the need for us to continue these take back
initiatives,” said Sheriff Patton.
Flu shots available from health department

The
Union County Health Department will be in Richwood on Thursday, Nov. 17,
at the Northern Union County Fire Department, 602 N. Franklin
Street, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. They will offer flu shots to children and
adults, ages six months and older.

Karcher receives National FFA’s highest honor

Harold
Karcher, former North Union FFA adviser, was selected to receive the
Honorary American FFA Degree at this year’s National
FFA Convention. He was instrumental in North Union FFA’s growth in
becoming one of the top 10 chapter’s in the state and
nationally recognized each and every year.
His commitment to the community and seeing the growth of students was
his passion. The National FFA Organization recognizes great leaders
like
Harold who advance agriculture education and FFA through outstanding
personal commitment.

URE Board selects Anthony Smith to succeed retiring

Union Rural Electric Cooperative, Inc., (URE) board of trustees
announced recently that it has selected longtime staff
member Anthony Smith, VP engineering, operations and Honda affairs,
to succeed current President/CEO Roger Yoder, who will retire in
early 2017 after 37 years of service.

Richwood Area Ministerial Association is offering to provide turkeys for
families who may be struggling this Thanksgiving with food

Council approves solid waste program

Dennis Baker, district director of Allen, Champaign, Hardin,
Madison, Shelby and Union Joint Solid Waste Management District, and
Union
County Commissioner Charles Hall, attended the Richwood Village council
meeting
Monday evening. The North Central Ohio Solid Waste District
submitted
their updated management plan to all the cities, villages, and townships
in the
district for approval. Due to time restraints, council approved
Resolution
10012016 for its final reading. The solid waste district must have
approval
from the Ohio EPA to implement the new plan.

County to begin berm-cutting program

Union County Engineers Operations workers will be starting a
countywide berm-grading program in the coming weeks. The crew will start
east
of Marysville in Dover Township and work north in a counter-clockwise
path
around the county.
Thanksgiving Holiday Schedule
The Richwood Gazette office will be closed on Thursday, Nov.
24, so staff can enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday.
Due to printing schedules and the post office closed on
Thanksgiving, the Richwood Gazette will not be delivered to subscribers
or

Veterinarian Rizor to retire

Elgin High School graduate, Marvin Rizor headed off to The Ohio State
University Veterinary School and earned two degrees in 1970. He
spent a year in practice at London, Ohio and a year at East Liverpool,
when he decided to return to the Richwood/LaRue area to practice
his trade.

RABA discusses winter activities

Richwood Area Business Association finalized the winter festivities at
their Nov. 8 meeting. Members approved Rita Parker as the grand
marshal for the Christmas Parade and the theme will be Christmas in
Wildcat Country. The annual Christmas Parade will be held on
Saturday, Dec. 3, at 4 p.m. The annual Community Open House will also be
held Saturday, Dec. 3, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Richwood-North
Union Public Library, 4
E. Ottawa Street in Richwood. Other activities include the Pie Giveaway,
which runs through Dec. 8, Hospitality night, Dec. 8, from 5 to 7
p.m. and the annual Christmas Decorating contest Dec. 16 and 17.
United way hosts online auction

Way of Union County is hosting their 11th annual online auction until
Tuesday, Nov. 29. There are a wide variety of products and services
donated from local businesses to auction off. The proceeds benefit the
$1,000,001 fall campaign.

the U.S. Armed Forces can receive the Ohio Veterans Bonus, which
pays
between $500 and $1,500.

Community Christmas dinner

North Union students of the Career Based Intervention class at North
Union High School are planning their 13th Annual Free Community
Christmas Dinner. The event will be held on Thursday, Dec. 15, from 5 to
7 p.m. at the high school, 401 N. Franklin Street in Richwood.
State of North Union event announced

The second State of North Union community event will be held Monday,
Dec. 5, at 6 p.m.
Food drive continues at Heritage
Heritage
Cooperative will continue accepting non-perishable food donations
through Thursday, Dec. 1 at their facility, 252 N. Franklin Street
in Richwood. All donations will be given to the Richwood Emergency
Assistance Program (REAP) Food Pantry. The food will given to
residents in need living in the North Union School District for the
holiday season.
