Public invited to a variety of area Easter services

Easter is Sunday, April 16, and the local churches in the area are inviting the public to attend any of the local services.

Richwood Park is site for Easter Egg Hunt

The Richwood Police Department Association is working in partnership with members of the Richwood Church of Christ on Sivey Road, sponsoring their third annual Easter Egg Hunt.

Drug “Take Back” set for April

The Union County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration, Richwood Police, Plain City Police, Memorial Hospital, and the Union County Drug Free Coalition, are sponsoring a prescription drug “Take-Back” event on Saturday, April 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at three locations:

Library to host children’s spring party
The Friends of the Library met at the Richwood-North Union Public Library Thurs., Mar. 30, to discuss and plan for up-coming events. Those friends in attendance were: Joann Brown, Janet Chadwick, Diane Crosthwaite, Pattsy Dotson, Lynda Henderson, Barbara Holcomb, Barb Matteson, Library Director Sarah Moore, Jodi Obedier, and Sheri Quick.

Students tour Ireland and Scotland

The 2017 spring break tour for high school students was a total success as a group from North Union and Marysville joined together with 20 travelers for an EF tour to Ireland and Scotland for eight days. There were North Union, STEM and Marysville high school students traveling by coach and having a full-time English speaking tour director, the group was able to learn more not only about the countries, but historical people, facts and local traditions. 

Council hears of the Memorial Health project

Village council saw a presentation by Evie Collins, Executive Director of Memorial Health Foundation at Monday night’s regular meeting. Collins unveiled the $50 million dollar hospital project.

Union SWCD releases 2016 annual report
Submitted by the Union Soil and Water Conservation District
The Union Soil and Water Conservation District is a legal subdivision of the State of Ohio. There is a board of five supervisors, who are elected for three-year terms that governs the district. The supervisors donate their time to serve Union County landowners. The board meets the second Thursday of each month to conduct district business. Meetings are held at 7 p.m., April through October, and at 6 p.m. November through March. The public is invited to attend.

Help Walk For Life on Saturday, April 29

The New Path Pregnancy Resource Centers in Bellefontaine, Marysville and Richwood, are sponsoring a two-mile walk at the Marmon Valley Farm, 7754 OH Route 292, Zanesfield. The event is set for Saturday, April 29. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. and the walkers take off at 10:30 a.m.

Spring-cleaning recycling day is April 22
Now that spring is here, most people are excited to start cleaning out their garage, basement or house of unwanted items, such as electronics (computers, cable and wire, cameras, servers, VCRs, monitor, DVD players, cell phones, keyboards and mice, CD and DVD media, battery backup systems, scanners, printers, fax machines, copiers, all stereo equipment, video games and systems, phone equipment, speakers, floppy disks, microwaves, sweepers and other household electronics.

RABA sponsors annual basket giveaway

The Richwood Area Business Association (RABA) is welcoming spring with their annual Spring Basket Giveaway contest. The event will be held from March 29 through noon on Wednesday, April 12.


Union County receives largest casino revenue check of more than $170,000 from state

After a below average first quarter, Union County has received its largest casino revenue check.

Jurors selected for May term
The following jurors have been drawn for the May 2017 term of the Court of Common Pleas, and will be subject to jury duty through Aug. 30, 2017. You will be notified in person or by letter when to report for jury duty.

Two honored for commitment to students

Two presentations were highlights Monday evening at the North Union Board of Education meeting. The event was held at the North Union Elementary School with Matt Burggraf, North Union Middle School Principal as host.

HOPE Center opens new clothing donation service

Last week saw the grand opening of the HOPE Center’s new clothing donation service, but that’s not all the organization needs from residents this summer.

A simple slip can rob an older adult of their health and independence. That is why one local group is determined to prevent falls and help Union County older adults walk with confidence. 

Friends of the Library to host Art Gala
The Friends of the Richwood-North Union Public Library met to discuss and organize the gala for the opening of the North Union High School art exhibition at the library. 

National Day of Prayer is Thursday, May 4
The observance of National Day of Prayer is a result of a joint resolution of the United States Congress in 1952, signed into law of President Harry S. Truman, and the declaration was amended in 1988 by both Houses of Congress and signed by President Ronald Reagan. This action set a permanent date for the National Day of Prayer on the first Thursday in May each year. Prayer gatherings will be held across American taking place all day and evening.

Council invites new businesses to Richwood

Following an executive session, village council members resumed the meeting by making a motion that was unanimously accepted. Council authorized Mayor Scott Jerew to approve a letter of recommendation for a prospective agribusiness, inviting them to locate to Richwood. The motion also encourages other businesses to consider the village and the motion also permits the mayor to apply for grants and permits from state and federal agencies, which will benefit the village. Council is working on enticing more business and growth for the village.

Auditor has 377 valuation appeals

About 1.25 percent of Union County property owners are appealing the tax value of their homes.
