The annual Christmas Parade was a huge success last Saturday and people were standing side-by-side down the street to view all the entries and to catch candy thrown by the exhibitors.

Cy Kincaid is the North Union High School advisor for the Career Based Intervention (CBI Class). When Kincaid came to the North Union School District, he wanted to do something for the community and he also wanted to use the experience as a life lesson for his students.

With the Christmas holiday before us, the Richwood Area Ministerial Association is once again helping out families in need by supplying turkeys or hams for the upcoming Christmas dinner.

Civil Air Patrol to lay wreaths for Christmas

The Victor A. Hammond Union County Civil Air Patrol Unit 234 will be participating in “Wreaths Across America” at the North Union Veterans Memorial near Richwood Lake on Saturday, Dec. 16. The ceremony will take place at approximately at 2 p.m.

Richwood supports Operation Christmas Child collection
Officials with the Samaritan’s Purse project, Operation Christmas Child, reports that the Columbus and Richwood areas have not only collected over 46,000 shoeboxes for children around the world, but surpassed 500,000 shoeboxes collected since the team started in 2003 this season.

Richwood village council issues proclamation to North Union FFA

The first order of business during Monday night’s council meeting was to recognize the North Union FFA Agronomy Team. Mayor Scott Jerew issued a proclamation acknowledging the North Union Agronomy team for winning the National Agronomy Contest at National Convention. All four members, Grayson Plotner, Abby Chadwick, Sarah Chadwick and Carter Wedding also were in the top ten winners individually, with Plotner earning first place nationally. In the last five years, North Union has won first place four of the five years, the only team from Ohio to win. The team received the plaque and congratulations from village council members.

Community loses business owner

William L. Parrott, an owner of Parrott Implement, died Saturday morning, Dec. 16 at Memorial Hospital.

Deputy Lenhardt is new dog warden
In cooperation with the Union County Commissioners and the Union County Sheriff, there’s a new “dog warden” in town.

Agronomy team receives more accolades at school board meeting

The National winning North Union Agronomy team received more honors during the North Union School Board meeting Monday evening.

Local churches to hold Christmas services
Area churches are holding special Christmas services and they invite the public to join them.

Office closed
The Richwood Gazette will be closed on Monday, Dec. 25 and Monday, Jan. 1, so that the staff can celebrate the holidays with their family. The newspaper will also be printed a day late, on Wednesday, Dec. 27 and Wednesday, Jan. 3, so subscribers will get their paper on Thursdays of those two weeks. We hope you have a safe, wonderful Christmas & a Happy New Year!

RABA hosts Christmas decorating contest

The Richwood Area Business Association sponsored their annual decorating contest recently. Judges from the Richwood Civic Center enjoyed traveling through the village and country roads in search of winners.

Shady credit card charges found in Liberty Township
Editor’s note: From the office of the Ohio Audtior of the State’s office.
Liberty Township, located in Hardin County, failed to detect two years’ worth of suspicious monthly credit card charges that added up to nearly $1,100 in losses by the time they were questioned during a state audit.

Gazette office New Years hours
The Richwood Gazette will be closed Monday, January 1, 2018, so that staff can celebrate the New Year with their families.
The newspaper will be printed on Wednesday, Jan. 3. Subscribers will receive their newspaper a day later than usual.
