Union County’s Gary Wallace honored as election official of the year for Ohio

When Gary Wallace retires in March, he will do so as Ohio’s Election Officials of the Year.


Union County Convention and Visitors Bureau to relocate

The Union County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors has approved plans for the Union County Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) to open a welcome center this spring in historic Uptown Marysville. The welcome center will help drive continued growth in tourism. In 2015, tourism generated $110.9 million in business in Union County, according to TourismOhio.


State offers Gypsy Moth open houses in central Ohio

Areas across Ohio are slated to receive gypsy moth aerial treatments by the Ohio Department of Agriculture in early spring to slow the spread of the destructive insect. Department staff members will host several open houses in treatment areas that will offer attendees the opportunity to speak directly with those who work with the program, learn about the pest, and view maps of treatment areas.
Citizens can also visit http://agri.ohio.gov/divs/plant/gypsy/gypsy-index.aspx to learn more about this pest and to view maps of the treatment areas. Those with questions who live near a treatment area in the central Ohio region will have the opportunity to talk with experts at the following open houses:

North Union Elementary cares

Recently, North Union Elementary School was acknowledged by ABC 6 On Your Side television station. Andrew Buck Michaels, who is a meteorologist for the station, has a segment that he highlights or gives a “School Shout Out,” recognizing good deeds in local schools. North Union Elementary was nominated by two different families, for two special reasons.

North Union Local School Board president Kevin Crosthwaite, will be presented with the Ohio School Boards Association Award of Achievement at the association’s spring regional conference held in Columbus on Monday, March 6.


National FFA Week is Feb. 18-25

The roots of FFA originate from a time when boys were losing interest and leaving the farm. Walter S. Newman, who in September 1925, became the Virginia State Supervisor of Agricultural Education, sought a solution to the problem with Edmund C. MaGill, Harry W. Sanders and Henry C. Groseclose, staff members of the Virginia Polytechnic Institute Agricultural Education Department.


No primary election in May for Union County

Union County Election officials have said there will not be a primary election in May, although there may be a special election for voters in the North Union School District.

Council offers operator of record position
Following an executive session, council members voted unanimously to send an authorized offer letter of employment to Eric Kincaid. The full-time position would be as Operator of Record, which means he would operate the sewer and water treatment plants for the village.The salary for the position would be $55,000.


Flu season still strong in Union County

With local influenza-associated hospitalizations continuing to be above average, the Union County Health Department is encouraging residents to take precautions against the flu.


Board recognizes NU Pride winner

The North Union Board of Education congratulated Donna Wolford who was chosen as the February #NUPride Award winner.


North Union staff take on ALICE
North Union administrators, teachers and staff received ALICE training Jan. 13, so that they will be ready for any future catastrophes during a school day/event.


Partnership forms, changes name

The Community Action Organization of Delaware, Madison and Union Counties, which also serves Champaign, Logan and Shelby counties, is pleased to announce their new, unified name “Bridges Community Action Partnership.”


Easter services to be announced
