Tuesday, Nov. 7 is an important date locally and statewide. It is the
General Election. There are several issues to determine and you will get
to vote for village and city representatives, school board members and
township trustees. Listed below are the various areas in Union County that
you are asked to elect.
Richwood man sentenced for sexual conduct with
13-year-old

A local man has been placed on community control after pleading guilty to
having sexual conduct with a 13 year old. Nicholas Adam Dunbar, 21, of 29
Maple St., Richwood, has been sentenced to five years of community control
and ruled as a Tier 2 sex offender. In September he pleaded guilty to one
count of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.
Eagle Scout updates shelter house

Cameron Troesch, 17, of Richwood, is working on completing his Eagle Scout
project by replacing all the posts on shelter house 1, located at Richwood
Park. Over the years, the posts have worn down due to weather and Troesch
wanted to help restore the shelter house for many more years of service.
Turkey donations needed
The Richwood Area Ministerial Association is once again helping out
families in need by supplying turkeys for the upcoming Thanksgiving
holiday.
Local election results sees familiar
faces

The northern Union County voters cast their ballots yesterday and the only
contested race was in the North Union Local School District. Kevin
Crosthwaite (who did not run for re-election), Dennis Hall and Jean
Wedding were up for re-election. Four candidates put their hat in the ring
and three were elected. Jean Wedding received 984 votes, Dennis Hall won
814 votes, Brian Davis received 870 and Shannon Jenkins-Bugg got 725
votes. Wedding, Hall (both incumbents) and Davis will begin their terms
Jan. 1, 2018.
Leesburg trustees celebrate
mortgage payoff with burning

The Leesburg Township Trustees and members of the Leesburg Township Fire
Department celebrated their accomplishment of paying off their mortgage of
the local fire station, located on Route 347, near Magnetic Springs on
Oct. 21.
Festival of Thanks set for Nov. 19

The annual Festival of Thanks is a time when people have an opportunity to
remember all the things we are thankful for during the year. The Richwood
Area Ministerial Association (RAMA) invites and encourages the public to
join in a celebration on Sunday, Nov. 19.

Thanksgiving and Christmas will soon be here and now is a great time to
make plans to celebrate with family and friends.
North Union FFA is national champions
The North Union FFA members recently competed in the Agronomy Career
Development Event (CDE) at the national level at the Annual National FFA
Convention and Expo, held in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Richwood council approves
another police officer

The Richwood Village Council met for their regular Monday night meeting
and Mayor Scott Jerew swore in Officer Evan Martindale.
He was hired as a part-time police officer for Richwood and received his
first commission as an officer.
Help light up the library
The Richwood-North Union Public Library is inviting businesses, community
organizations, community groups, families and individuals to help “Light
Up The Library,” for the holiday season. Everyone is invited to
bring in and decorate an artificial tree with lights to be displayed in
the library.
Two graduates earn American FFA Degree

Austin Davis and Claire Wolfe received their American FFA Degree, the
highest degree the FFA offers, at the 90th National FFA convention in
Indianapolis, IN. Of the over, 650,000 FFA members nationwide, less than
three percent earned the American FFA Degree.
Board recognizes award winners

The North Union Board of Education took time to recognize students and
community members for their accomplishments during the monthly board
meeting Monday night.
Care Train gears up for its 30th
year

The Care Train of Union County is right around the corner for its 30th
year serving the community.
Dave Laslow, founder and chairman of the charity effort, said Care Train
is a “group of concerned citizens and business leaders” who contribute an
effort to make sure everyone can enjoy the holiday season.
Council works to clean
up village

Steve Davis, of Landon Road, came to the Richwood Village Council meeting
Monday evening with complaints of unkept properties within the village. He
is concerned about trash sitting in yards and along the street, unlicensed
vehicles, burning trash within village limits and the lack of lawns not
being mowed. One instance is close to his home.

Share your holiday spirit at the
Christmas Parade

Let’s start our holiday cheer by attending the annual Christmas Parade in
Richwood on Saturday, Dec. 2. The fun begins at 4 p.m. when the parade
leaves Richwood Park and heads south to Walnut Street and returns back to
Richwood Park. This year’s Christmas theme is “The Christmas Story.”
Church shares “A Night in Bethlehem”
The Fulton Creek Friends Church sends an open invitation to the public to
explore a night in Bethlehem.
