Local ag community discuss soybean tariff, government relief

While some farmers in the county are expecting a tremendous soybean crop this year, Jeff Robinson is not.
Robinson who farms along Route 4, near Pharisburg north of Marysville, said the weather and timing have just not been kind to his fields.

Animal bites in county above normal

Animal bites are on the rise in Union County.
Marcia Dreiseidel, director of environmental health at the Union County Health Department (UCHD), said the county has seen an uptick in animal bites this year. She said usually, there are about 75 to 125 animals bites that occur each year. However, for this year, 88 animal bites as of July 23, “seems like a lot.”

Richwood Bank purchases Home City Federal

Richwood Bank is expanding.
The company announced Wednesday that it will buy Home City Federal Savings Bank of Springfield. The bank has two branches in Clark County.

Troesch earns Eagle Scout award

Cameron Troesch, of the Richwood Boy Scout Troop 440 was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest recognition in the Boys Scouts of America, on June 24, 2018.  Cameron is the son of James Troesch and Stacey Shaffer, of Richwood. Troop 440, is sponsored by the Richwood First United Methodist Church.

Ordinance states guidelines for new walking path

Richwood Village Council approved and passed the new Ordinance 04022018 regarding Rules Upon Designated Walking Paths and Restrictions at the June 11, 2018 meeting. After three to four years of planning, securing funding, designing and completing the project, these rules are now in effect for the public.

Regula inducted into Hall of Fame at Ohio State Fair

The 43 annual Ohio State Fair Hall of Fame Ceremony was held at the Ohio State Fair in the Ohio Expo Center last week, Aug. 2. A familiar face from the area, Johnny Regula, Auctioneer, was inducted during the ceremonies.

Group honors veterans

The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 870 sponsored a “Thank You” dinner for the Richwood Area Veterans Honor Guard and their spouse/guest on Monday, Aug. 6. Honored guests included current and past serving guard members who are VFW, VFW Auxiliary, and American Legion Post 40 members and other veterans in the local area.

Village council member resigns

Members of the Richwood village council heard from Mayor Scott Jerew, that Von Beal has resigned from his council seat during Monday night’s regular council meeting. Beal’s unexpired term ends December 31, 2021.

New Medicare cards to prevent senior scams available

The Union County Senior Services have announced that new Medicare cards will be issued to help prevent scams for senior citizens. The process will take about one year to mail to over 60 million Medicare recipients.

Village to smoke test sewer lines

Richwood village employees and staff from Ohio Rural Water will be smoke testing sewer lines in the village, beginning Sept. 12. A “smoke test” survey will assist the inspection crews in locating breaks and defects in the sewer system.

The Richwood Civic Center has a new home

The community has noticed a large change in The Richwood Civic Center organization recently. For many years, these events were held in a social room at the Richwood Greene Apartment building located at 235 Grove Street in Richwood.

Richwood man allegedly assaults officer

A Richwood man could be facing prison time after allegedly pushing a law enforcement official.
A Union County Grand Jury has indicted Gregory Wayne Blevins, 45, of 30530 Lemasters Road, Richwood. Blevins is charged with one count each of assault, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and obstructing official business stemming from a July 26 incident. If convicted on all counts, Blevins could face as many as 36 months in prison.

New library director announced

The Richwood-North Union Public Library Board of Trustees has announced Audrey Deel as the new library director. Sarah Moore, the former library director, left the position earlier in the year and Deel began serving as interim director since February 15. Previously she served as the Youth Services Librarian since September 2014.

Council hear work continues on park’s walking path

The Richwood Village council met Monday evening hearing about more support for the new walking path at Richwood Park.

Health Department explains levy

The Union County Board of Health is placing a renewal of our .75 mill levy with an increase of .15 mill on the November 2018 ballot. This is not a new levy, but a renewal of our existing 10-year levy set to expire at the end of 2018. This levy helps to fund our current services and operations.
