North Union Robotics team continues to qualify for state competition
By Sherryl Sheets
The North Union High School Robotics team is playing strong as they are in the height of the season with the new Vex Robotics game. Every year the goals of the game and the playing elements change while the overall organization remains the same. Each match is played on a 12’x 12’ field by two opposing alliances each made up of two randomly paired robots. The match lasts for two minutes with the first 15 seconds devoted to autonomous (driverless) mode. Robots must start out able to fit within an 18”x 18” x 18” cube and there are rules limiting the type and quantities of equipment used. The goal of the game this year is to stack cones onto moveable and stationary goals. The moveable goals are placed into 5, 10, and 20-point scoring zones in the corners of the fields. Bonus points are given for the highest stack in each zone. This is a fast paced, high precision game!
