An emergency blood shortage is prompting the American Red Cross to issue
an urgent call for eligible donors of all blood types – especially type O
– to give now and help save lives.
Hall steps down from fire chief position

The Leesburg Township Fire Department will see a new change, sort of.
Current Fire Chief Jim Hall, has told the township trustees that it is
time to step down and let someone else take the reigns. But he won’t be
leaving the fire department completely. He will remain as a firefighter,
just not the “The Chief”.
Antique Machinery Show comes to town

ago, come to the Richwood Fairgrounds in Richwood July 20, 21 and 22 and

Council approves application for updates

Council approved the final reading of Resolution 07012018, which
authorizes the application to apply for Ohio Public Works Commission
(OPWC) funding for the village wastewater treatment plant and lift-station
upgrades at Monday night’s meeting. Councilman Von Beal and village
administrator/police chief Monte Asher were both absent from the meeting.
Due to application deadline, it was necessary to suspend the rules and
pass it on the first and final reading.
Grand Jury hands down indictments to two local
residents
The Union County Grand Jury has indicted several northern Union County
residents on charges. Christopher M. Ballard, 37, of 31862 McPeck Road,
Richwood, is charged with one count of domestic violence. According to
court documents, on June 9, Ballard and a woman were exchanging a child as
part of a planned visitation. Ballard and the woman allegedly began to
argue. Union County Prosecutor David Philips said Ballard allegedly
punched the woman in the head several times. Ballard has at least two
prior domestic violence convictions. Phillips said while domestic violence
is often charged as a misdemeanor, the man’s multiple convictions elevated
the charge to a third-degree felony. If convicted, Ballard could face as
many as five years in prison.
Jennifer Angel Stone, 33, of 117 S. Main Street, Magnetic Springs is
charged with one count of aggravated possession of drugs, stemming from an
Oct. 1, 2017 incident involving Fentanyl. If convicted, Stone could face
as man as 12 months in prison.

School board hears of new athletic facility

about a new athletic facility that is in the plans for North Union High
School.
Grant money received for opioid education

United Way of Union County recently announced that it has received $35,000
from the Cardinal Health Foundation’s Generation Rx Prescription Drug
Misuse Prevention Education for Youth grant program. The grant was awarded
to the United Way for use by the Union County Drug Free Coalition to
provide implementation of the interventions.

School doors open August 15

North Union students and parents are invited to a few open houses before
the students begin the 2018-2019 school year, Wednesday, Aug. 15.
No quorum, no meeting
Mayor Scott Jerew had to cancel the Richwood Council meeting set for
Monday evening due to no quorum. Council members watied for Don Ridgeway,
Von Beal and Pat Morse to arrive.
After 15 minutes Jerew cancelled the meeting due to lack of attendance.
The next regular meeting of council will be held Monday, Aug. 13, at 7
p.m. at the administration building.
Opening of the Richwood Lake Trail planned
Join the Richwood Trailblazers for a fun-filled Saturday afternoon on Aug.
4 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the grand opening and celebration of the
Richwood Lake Trail. The festivities kick off at 10 a.m. with a ribbon
cutting ceremony at the trail-head followed by a free community lunch
served at 11 a.m. at the shelter house. There will be activities for
children, pets and adults, including a bike parade, senior trail tour,
family dog walk, and health fair.
