Richwood Park to receive major overhaul

The Richwood Lake Park has been a staple in the small village of Richwood since the 1920’s. The old lake hasn’t changed much over the years until recently that is.
If you drive down Lynn Street you will notice a lot of work as excavators pull rock from piles and line the banks in an effort to save the eroding shores.

BMV taking security measures for driver’s licenses and ID cards

In an effort to ensure greater security and identification protection for customers, and to comply with federal regulations, the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles is introducing a single, central point of production for state driver licenses and identification cards, effective July 2, 2018.

Annual Union County Lamb Banquet to honor youth

The Annual Union County Lamb Banquet, honoring Union County Sheep Youth, will be held Tuesday, March 20, at the North Union High School, located at 401 N. Franklin Street in Richwood. The event begins at 6 p.m.with a meal.

Churches invites public to Easter services
Easter is Sunday, April 1, and the Richwood Gazette invites local area churches to share their special services with the public.

Bloodmobile returns to Richwood
Donors are reminded that the American Red Cross will visit Richwood on Monday, March 26. The event will be held at the First United Methodist Church at 18 S. Fulton Street from 1 to 7 p.m.

Former school administrator is new deputy chief executive
A former central Ohio school administrator and teacher with more than 20 years in education has joined the Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA) as its deputy chief executive.
Dr. Kathy McFarland comes from Olentangy Local Schools’ Orange High School in Delaware County, where she served as principal for more than two years.

It’s Spring time at the library

The Richwood-North Union Public Library is announcing their spring programs for public enjoyment. There are events for children, teens, adults and families.

Board recognizes student and staff achievements

School Superintendent Rich Baird reported on many high school celebrations since the beginning of the school year at Monday night’s regular board meeting. Student athletes, coaches and teams where recognized for the many accolades during the fall and winter sports seasons. The Students of Service (SOS) Club were highlighted for their 15 service events they perform throughout the school year; FFA students were congratulated for achievements, along with the robotic teams who are proceeding to the World Competitions this year, the Business Professionals of America and the NU Age A Cappela Choir. During each regular meeting, Baird will recognize the accomplishments of our students and staff who excel and put North Union on the map.

Prospect resident honored by pork industry

The National Pork Producers Council and the National Pork Board presented former Ohio Pork Council Executive Vice President Dick Isler with the Paulson-Whitmore State Executive Award at their annual business meeting, the National Pork Industry Forum.

Robotic teams prepare for world competition

Members of the North Union Robotics teams are getting ready to compete in the World Championship event in Louisville, Kentucky. The VEX IQ is set for April 23, 30 and May 1.

Hastings recognized by health department

Gabby Hastings, Executive Director of the Richwood Civic Center, was recently recognized by the Union County Health Department as the Public Health Partner of the Year (UCHD). Hastings works closely with UCHD to improve the health of older adults living in northern Union County.

Council hears of several updates on business

Members of Richwood Village Council heard several updates regarding village finances, trash collection and projects taking place in the village. Mayor Scott Jerew was absent from the meeting due to recovering from recent surgery. Council president Jack Moore ran the regular meeting.

Local students hospitalized after weekend car rollover

A vehicle crash in Northern Union County resulted in the death of an Elgin School District student and sent four other students to the hospital Friday.
