Art students shine at library

The Richwood-North Union Public Library is the host for the annual North
Union High School Art Exhibit Awards for 2018. The public is invited to
tour the library, located at 4 E. Ottawa Street in Richwood and see the
many types of artwork made by students.

robotics teams compete in World Championship

Jodie Kavanagh and Kristi Matlack took 16 students and three robots to the
Vex World Championship in Louisville Kentucky. They were among the 30,000
people, including 1,648 teams from 30 nations who converged on Louisville,
Kentucky for the 11th annual VEX Robotics World Championship.
Richwood women honored

Representatives from the Ohio Secretary of State’s Office were in Richwood
Tuesday to present long-time poll worker Joan Wells with a commendation.
“I don’t remember why I started,” Wells, 91, said in an interview. She
added that she “was always very interested in politics.”
Women killed when bicycle hit by truck

A local woman hit and killed by a pickup truck while cycling may have been
under the influence of drugs.
According to Ohio State Highway Patrol Sgt. Tom Gerber, at about 9:30
p.m., Thursday, Brooke Hoffman, 22, of North Lewisburg, was riding a
bicycle on Route 739 east of Green Camp in Marion County. Hoffman was
riding west in the eastbound lane.

Thirteen honorees will be recognized for their accomplishments and
volunteerism at the 43rd Annual Central Ohio Senior Citizens Hall of Fame
Recognition Ceremony on Wednesday, May 16, at the Martin Janis Center in
Columbus starting at 1 p.m.

Summertime is probably one of the most needed times during the year for
blood donations.
Council approves request for new bucket truck

Village Council members approved a deal to obtain a newer bucket truck for
the village.
The village bucket truck, a 1989 Ford is in need of a lot of repairs,
which is not considered cost-effective, due to its age. Village
administrator Monte Asher and clerk Timothy Goodwin found a used 2005 Ford
F-550 bucket truck with a a 42-foot working height and a 300 pound bucket
capacity. It is powered by a transmission driven Muncie PTO hydraulic pump
and a 12-volt back-up pump.
Village to flush hydrants this week
The village of Richwood officials are announcing the water crews will be
flushing fire hydrants Thursday, May 17 in the evening. This will be an
opportunity to check the water pressure in the village.

Flags flying on military service member’s graves are the sole reason for
Memorial Day. Monday, May 28, is when we solemnly remember and honor the
men and women of the Armed Forces who gave their lives for our freedoms
and were lost in war or peacetime.
Richwood native to cultivate agricultural
education in Ghana

Spending most of his childhood on his family’s seventh generation
production farm, Justin Monroe learned at a young age an appreciation and
interest for agriculture. After serving in the United States Air Force,
Monroe graduated with a degree in Agriculture Business and Applied
Economics at Ohio State University. Now, he is taking his experience to
Africa as an AgriCorps Fellow, where he will promote food security and
agricultural education in Ghana.
School board honors many during meeting

The North Union Elementary School(NUES) was the site for the monthly
school board meeting Monday evening. Darlene Allison, principal at NUES,
welcomed the board and all the guests present. Third grade students led
the Pledge of Allegiance to open the meeting.

Chamber of Commerce honors local citizens

The Union County Chamber of Commerce recently held their annual “Salute to
Leaders” banquet, recognizing those individuals who have made a difference
in various communities. Eric Phillips, the CEO of the Union County Chamber
of Commerce and Bob Whitman, director of the Leadership Institute welcomed
the guests and led the invocation before the luncheon.
Eagle Scout updates cemetery entrance

Cordell Galloway, a junior at Marysville High School, heard from a friend
of his dad’s that the Hopewell Cemetery could use some updating.
Walk with your dog
Take a walk with your dog at the 3rd Annual Dottie Davis Dog Walk on June
2. The event will be held at 16 Norris Street in Richwood, the former
location of the North Union Middle School.
