Union County represented at Ohio State Fair

During the Livestock  Sale Sunday, Aug. 4, at The Ohio State Fair, Outstanding Marketing Exhibitors were recognized. Three of those in the Sheep Division recognized hail from Union County.
Morgan Evans and Bailee Amstutuz, both North Union students and  Nicholas Johnson, a Marysville student, were in the top ten of the Outstanding Marketing Exhibitors.

Richwood Independent Fair celebrates 127 years

The Richwood Fair will begin Wednesday, Aug. 28 and runs through Labor Day, September 2. Summer activities will soon be in the books for many students, FFA and 4-H students.

Health department to hold Back to School shot clinics

It’s August and many children will be entering the schools soon. The Union County Health Department wants to help ease the burden for the parents in offering back to school shot clinics at Union County Schools, beginning Aug. 7.

Council calls emergency meeting

Mayor Scott Jerew called an emergency meeting of village council members Monday, stating that he received a lengthy email from Union County Prosecutor Dave Phillips regarding the verbage on the three levies that Richwood voters will see on the November 5 ballot.
Apparently, council had not been received the most recent Ohio Revised Code and Phillips noted that the wording in the levies were not up-to-date.

Memorial Home Health receives national recognition

Memorial Home Health, a service of Memorial Hospital, was recently awarded the “Superior Performer” award for 2018 by Strategic Healthcare Partners (SHP) and ranked in the top 20% in the nation, regarding benchmarks and quality measure scores from the patient’s point of view.

Residents continue to attend the two village council meetings each month to check on any updates regarding the flooding issues residents have endured after heavy rains.

Volunteers welcome in preparing for Richwood Independent Fair

The 127th annual Richwood Independent Fair will begin Wednesday, Aug. 28 and the six-day run ends on Labor Day, Sept. 2.  Fair board members work hard for 12 months to get entertainment scheduled, attract harness racers and fans, get young people involved with their projects and the most time consuming event is preparing the grounds months ahead for opening day,

November election shows candidates and issues to vote on

Local election officials say they are already preparing for November’s election.
“We are working hard, we have a lot of stuff to do,” said Brandon Clay, director of the Union County Board of Elections. “We are working to verify petitions and signatures, getting the new equipment ready, getting ballots ready. There is a lot of work to be done, but we are really excited for the upcoming election.”

Local man found dead near brothers grave

A Richwood man is dead of an apparent suicide.
Michael David Blaine Andrews II, 25, of Richwood, was pronounced dead at 6:07 p.m., Aug. 18, at the cemetery.

Text to 9-1-1 available in county

Union County Sheriff Jamie Patton announced recently that “Text to 9-1-1” is now available in Union County. Sheriff Patton said the service has just finished testing with the four major wireless carriers (Sprint, Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T) and is now operational in the Sheriff’s 9-1-1 Communications Center.

Beautification work begins on Franklin

Complete General Construction Co. out of Columbus came to Richwood last week to begin The Franklin Street Beautification Project. Grant funds for the four-year project are from the Ohio Department of Transportation Beautification Grant the village was awarded in 2016.

School board gives update on Tri-Rivers
The North Union Board of Education meeting was held Monday, Aug. 21 at the administration building with Jean Wedding and Matt Staley absent from the meeting.
Board member Shelly Ehret gave the board an update on the Tri-Rivers Career Center, as she serves on their board.

Teen vaping epidemic has caused concern

In the midst of back-to-school season, officials throughout Union County are working to combat the teen vaping epidemic.
Shawn Sech, director of health promotions and planning at the Union County Health Department (UCHD), described vaping, or e-cigarette use, as “rampant” among youth.

Council hears updates in the village

There is a lot of work taking place in the village, so council got an update from about every corner of the village at Monday night’s regular meeting.

Going to the Richwood Fair isn’t just about going to watch entertainment, watching projects get judged or just going to eat. It is also a time where a person can go and participate in events.

North Union Schools rank nationally

Staff at North Union High School recently received notification that they ranked in the top 40% of high schools according to US News and World Reports 2019.

Help us save milkweed seeds
The Union County Soil and Water Conservation District is collecting milkweed seeds. Their office at 18000 State Route 4 N, Suite B in Marysville, will be a collection site for Milkweed pods again this year. The milkweed pod collection will run from September 1- October 30.
