Christmas events kick-off Saturday

This Saturday, the streets of Richwood will be filled with excitement as the Community Open House will be held at the Richwood-North Union Public Library, located at 4 E. Ottawa Street in Richwood from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Septic system permits must be renewed

Union County residents who own a property with a septic system will receive a bill to renew their operation permit this week from the Union County Health Department. The renewal bill is being issued by the county health department in compliance with statewide sewage rules.

Social Security expands public hours

Starting on January 8, 2020, Social Security offices nationwide will be open to the public on Wednesday afternoons, Andrew Saul, Commissioner of Social Security, announced. This change restores Wednesday public service hours that were last in place in late 2012.  “I don’t want someone to come to our office at 2:30 on a Wednesday only to find our doors closed,” Commissioner Saul said.

Council discusses finances for 2020

Following the opening of the Monday night’s council meeting, members went into executive session to discuss employee compensation. When they returned to regular session, a motion was made and approved to increase employee wages two percent effective January 1, 2020. An exception was made eliminating the village zoning officer from this ordinance. Another ordinance for the zoning officer’s salary was approved and it was raised to $3600 a year, effective January 1, 2020.

Members of the Career Based Intervention (CBI) class at North Union High School are hosting their 16th Free Community Christmas Dinner on Tuesday, Dec. 17 at 401 N. Franklin St., Richwood.

Winners announced in Poinsettia Contest

The Richwood Area Business Association (RABA) sponsored a Poinsettia Giveaway Contest in the village. Customers were invited to sign-up at each participating business, hoping to win a Christmas poinsettia for the holidays.

Davis retires from Richwood Bank after 43 years

As any newly 18-year old graduate usually does, they look for a job. Marsha Davis did just that, and her tenure of 43 years with Richwood Banking Company has now come to an end. She is retiring from the local bank after 43 years, on Dec. 31, 2019.
