Robotics club going strong

The Vex Robotics season is in full swing and the North Union High School Robotics Club is making their community proud. They have competed four times this year, earning 11 trophies and qualifying four teams for the Ohio State Vex Championship on March 2, 2019.

Most people have a hobby. Some enjoy going to flea markets; some enjoy bird watching, and some enjoy car racing. Dan Jones and Julie Galow enjoy racing cars, restoring cars and selling cars and trucks.

Many good things took place in 2018 in the Richwood area, things that promoted the health of the residents, updated the infrastructure of Richwood and Magnetic Springs. Students and staff put North Union on the map in academics and sports and new business owners came to town.

A Richwood man is under indictment after allegedly fleeing from police on a golf cart.

Staley fills North Union School Board seat

The North Union Board of Education held their organizational meeting for 2019 and opened it by swearing in Matt Staley, the newest school board member. He was selected from three candidates who applied for the position when Dennis Hall resigned his seat during the December meeting.

Richwood Police Department releases annual report

Police Chief Monte Asher has been in law enforcement for over twenty years and has served as the Richwood Police Chief since 2007. He also serves as the Village Administrator. He oversees the police, street, water and sewer departments. Asher also served as the Master of Ceremonies at the Annual Union County Law Enforcement ceremony in 2018.

Fire and EMS activity released for 2018

The Northern Union County Fire and EMS District (NUCFD) was as busy with calls in 2018, as they were in 2017, with 756 calls of service compared to 755 the year before.

Richwood women dies in fire

A Richwood woman is dead, the result of an early-morning house fire.
Judith Sadler, 73, of 120 N. Clinton St., was declared dead Tuesday at Memorial Hospital in Marysville.

The Union County Board of Developmental Disabilities (UCBDD) held its annual organizational meeting last week, during which the recognition of a retiring board member and appointment of a new member took place.
Bruce Davis retired after serving a total of 18 years as a board member. He was first appointed by the Union County Commissioners in March of 1999. He then served the legal limit of twelve consecutive years on the board and was re-appointed in January, 2013.

Council prepares for new projects

Richwood Village Council members are in the process of another new update for the village, working on the downtown beautification project and the resurfacing of Franklin Street (State Route 37) through the village. During Monday night’s regular meeting, a few more requests were asked to coincide with the upcoming project.

NU Robotics wins tournament, qualifies for world

North Union Robotics enjoyed a successful trip to Chantilly, Virginia this past weekend, participating in a world-class VEX Robotics Signature Event, “Night at the Museum.” The tournament, originally scheduled-to-be-held in the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum Udvar-Hazy Center, was moved to the Dulles Expo Center in Chantilly due to the partial government shutdown. Sixty teams from 25 states participated, all meeting strict qualification criteria — either winning a previous VEX tournament, or the coveted Excellence Award, ensuring the field of competition would be among the best in the world.
