Council flooded with water problems in village

Council continues to have residents question them about how the effects of all the rain the village has received.

Petit jurors selected
The following jurors have been selected for the July and August, 2019 term of the Court of Common Pleas.
Residents will be notified in person or by letter when they are to report for jury duty.  Don’t be alarmed if your name is listed below and you have not been notified, as additional juror names have been drawn and will be called on an “as needed” basis. Therefore, your jury service may or may not be required.

Protection needed against sunburns

Summer sun is finally here. Parents are advised before their children  rush out the door to play, remember to protect their skin.
“With all the rain we’ve had, it’s so nice to finally see the sun,” said Jennifer Thrush, public information officer for the Union County Health Department. “But as parents, it’s important we don’t forget to protect our children’s fragile skin in our rush to enjoy the sunshine.”

The Mid Ohio Antique Farm Machinery Show is coming to Richwood July 26 – 28 at the Richwood Fairgrounds. Take a step back in time with the old-style farm equipment of days gone by.

School board tackles issues of bullying

School Superintendent Rich Baird gave a report on bullying in the North Union Local School District at Monday night’s regular meeting.
The North Union Local School District Student-Parent Handbook addresses bullying in The Student discipline Code on page 29, item #19, Hazing and Bullying. It is available on the North Union School website also for anyone to read.The term Harassment is also defined in board policy.

Community yard sales come to town

Summer is mid-way through and you have thought about downsizing. So the best time to have a yard/garage sale is July 26 and 27. Come join the fun during The Richwood Community Yard Sale weekend.

Driver advisory: chip sealing has begun

Union County Engineer crews began their annual chip seal program on Monday, July 15th and the work is expected to last four to five weeks. Road resurfacing will take place between the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday.

Water hot topic at council

The last three or four council meetings have had numerous residents within the village questioning solons about the continued flooding within the village. Many questions have been raised, so Mayor Scott Jerew invited Union County Commissioners (Steve Stolte and Charles Hall in attendance), State Representative Tracy Richardson of the House District 86, Dorothy Pelanda, the Ohio Director of Agriculture, Jeff Stauch, Union County Engineer and Jeremy Burrey with Union Soil and Water Conservation District, to hear council’s concerns and ask them for their support regarding the village flooding.

Construction on schedule for new prosecutor’s office

Despite some disruptive weather throughout the month of June, construction on the former Richwood Bank building is on schedule, according to Union County Prosecutor Dave Phillips.

Move Over Law in effect

The Ohio State Highway Patrol and other members of the Six-State Trooper Project are collaborating to focus on education and enforcement of the Move Over law. This initiative will began on Sunday, July 21 at 12:01 a.m. and ends on Saturday, July 27 at 11:59 p.m. The high-visibility enforcement will include the Indiana State Police, Kentucky State Police, Michigan State Police, Pennsylvania State Police, West Virginia State Police, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Summer Harvest Celebration at Farmer’s Market

 The Union County Farmers Market will host its 12th Annual Summer Festival on Saturday, August 10, from 8:30. a.m to 1 p.m.  at Partners Park, Main and Sixh Street in  Marysville. The Market should be brimming with the Summer Harvest of fresh veggies and fruits, along with home baked breads and pastries, honey, jams and jellies, meats, eggs and plants.

All-Ohio Balloon Fest partners with Hope Center

 The 2019 All-Ohio Balloon Fest is partnering with the Hope Center in an event that benefits the community in more ways than one.
Since 1975, the All-Ohio Balloon Fest has drawn individuals from throughout the state of Ohio and beyond to Union County. The event features a weekend of entertainment, but strives to make a lasting impact on the area.

Board of elections sets up new polling locations

 More than half the voters in Union County will be getting a new polling location and officials from the board of elections want them to know about it.
 The Union County Board of Elections has sent post cards to more than 21,000 of the county’s 38,000 registered voters. The cards are intended to inform voters about their new polling place.
