travels to D.C. for border security talks

Union County Sheriff Jamie Patton spent Wednesday and Thursday in
Washington D.C. attending the White House Briefing on Secure Borders and
Safe Communities.
Patton said the conference addressed concerns, much larger than just
immigration and concerns at the border.
Tire collection announced to help eliminate
mosquitoes

The Union County Health Department is hosting two free tire collection
days in October. The first collection is Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Union
County Fairgrounds from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. A second collection event for
county residents will be held Saturday, Oct. 26 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at
the Richwood Fairgrounds.

more critical to home fire safety. Studies show that in the past, people
had approximately 17 minutes to escape a typical home fire from the time
the smoke alarm sounds. Now they may have as little as two minutes to get

drive-thru flu shot service

The Union County Health Department is offering drive-thru flu shots on
Thursday, Oct. 10 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Union County Fairgrounds.
The drive-thru clinic is a test of the Union County Health Department’s
emergency response plans.
Man responsible for fatal crash is sentenced

The man responsible for a crash that killed his teenage cousin and injured
his brother and several others will spend the next four and a half years
in prison.
Christopher Conrad, 20, of 24660 state Route 4, Richwood, was sentenced
Wednesday to 54 months in prison.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

urges eligible donors to give blood or platelets to provide hope and
healing to patients fighting cancer.
Richwood to
collect tires, prevent mosquito diseases

The Richwood fair board is working with the Union County Health Department
to reduce the mosquito population by hosting a tire collection at the
local fair grounds, 1 Gill Street in Richwood. The event takes place on
Saturday, Oct. 26 from 10 a.m. to noon or until the collection trucks are
full.
Union County Officials to take drugs off the
streets

The Union County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with the Drug
Enforcement Administration, Richwood Police, Plain City Police, Memorial
Hospital, Union County Drug-Free Coalition, and other local agencies, are
trying to provide area residents an opportunity to properly dispose of
prescription medicines.

Council hears about levies on the Nov. 5 ballot

Union County Auditor Andrea Weaver attended the Tuesday, Oct. 15 Richwood
Village Council meet to inform council members about the three levies that
will be on the Nov. 5 ballot. She showed members charts of monies raised
in 2018 in comparison to what is estimated to be received in 2019.
Board gets demonstration in technology

The North Union Board of Education received a presentation and a
demonstration regarding the Robotics Technology from middle school
and high school robotics teams at the Monday, Oct. 21 regular
meeting.
Area businesses collecting for local food pantry

Heritage Cooperative, the Richwood branch, will be hosting the “Heritage
Community Food Drive” from Wednesday, Oct. 23 through Wednesday, Oct. Nov.
20 for the Richwood Emergency Assistance Program (REAP) Food Pantry.
Bagged leaves to be picked up
The village employees will gather bags of leaves left curbside as a
convenience to residents.
Village Administrator Monte Asher requests that residents use only paper
or biodegradable bags, which are available locally to put leaves in. There
must not be any twigs, branches or any kind of trash in the bags of
leaves.
The bags can be left at the curb for employees to pick-up.
Council
applies for Capital Budget funds

State Representative Tracy Richardson will be presenting a request
on behalf of the village council for funds from the $15 million statewide
Capital budget.
Mayor Scott Jerew told council that the village is asking for $64,000 that
would be used for items at Richwood Park. With regulations for the use of
the funds, council has applied for money to be used to purchase two
composting toilets for the park, which would meet ADA requirements, an ADA
pedestrian dock, which would be for people to walk out on to fish from or
just watch the scenery, and a kayak launch where boaters can put their
kayaks onto the lake and paddle around.
