Civic center announces new staff members

The Richwood Civic Center has experienced a few changes the end of August. Gabby Hastings, Civic Center Director, and Pamela Peters, Activities Coordinator, both retired the end of August. Both are excited about their futures and upcoming adventures.

Richwood Independent Fair concludes without a hitch

The books will be closed soon on the 127th Richwood Independent Fair and fair board members were quite pleased with the weather and the turnout of visitors to the fair.

New area code will serve county

The 937 region will soon be getting another area code.
This month, the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio approved an “area code overlay,” or a plan to add another area code to the same region as 937.
Beginning on March 8, 2020, the 326 area code will be added to the existing 937 area code, which is expected to run out of available phone numbers next year.

Fewer fatal crashes during Labor Day

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is reporting 10 traffic fatalities over the Labor Day Holiday, two fewer than last year, according to provisional data.

New additions are arriving at Richwood Park

Mayor Scott Jerew informed council that the new floating handicapped fishing dock was installed last week at Richwood Lake. The dock was acquired by the receipt of grant money from the Christopher Reeves Foundation. One fisherman has already used the new addition to the lake in his wheelchair and told Jerew how nice it was to be able to fish again.

Blood donors urgently needed

Did you know that the American Red Cross moved blood products into position and stocked hospitals in the Southeast before Hurricane Dorian made landfall in the U.S.? That’s because we know that hurricanes can disrupt access to blood.

This week, the Ohio Department of Education released its annual School Report Cards, rating districts across the state.
This is the second year that each district and school receives an overall letter grade.

Time to recycle those electronics and appliances

Now is the time to dispose of those old televisions, refrigerators, microwaves and other appliances and electronics that have “bit the dust.”
Mark your calendar for Saturday, Sept. 28 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (rain or shine) at the Union Recyclers, located at 15140 US Route 36, east of Marysville.

State Route 4 to close for culvert road work
The Ohio Department of Transformation has announced that State Route 4, between State Route 347 and Kinney Pike, will be closed September 15 to October 15 for culvert replacement.
Detour directions include taking Route 4 to Route 347 to Route 37 to Route 4 or reverse.

Council to discuss future tree planting

With the progress of a few projects this year in the village,  the removal of trees  had many residents upset losing aged trees in their lawns.
Council feels the village’s infrastructure is very important to maintain and the last several years has cost the village a lot of money in fixing broken tile in the water and sewer lines. Much of the destruction of the tile is due to the type of trees that have damaged the lines.

Support the 15th Annual Heifer Festival

The public is invited to attend the 15th Annual Heifer Festival on Saturday, Sept. 28.
The event will be held at the North Union Elementary School, located at 420 Grove Street in Richwood.

Police release info on S. Franklin St. incident
From Richwood Staff reports
The Richwood Police Department was called Sunday, Sept. 22 at approximately 1:05 p.m. to the 100 block of S. Franklin Street for a report of a fight. The incident involved several people. When the police arrived, the Union County Sheriff’s Dept. also assisted due to several people being on the scene for back-up.

Village to flush fire hydrants
The Village of Richwood will by flushing the fire hydrants on Wednesday, Oct. 2, from 7:30  to 9:30 p.m., checking the water pressure.
Try not to do laundry on that day because there may be some rust particles dislodged in the water lines.
