Local election officials are stressing that with more than 1,160 potential
votes to be counted, election results will not be official for nearly
weeks.
Meat supply shortage felt at Mosier’s Market

The coronavirus has caused concerns for grocery stores. First there was
the shortage on toilet paper and cleaning supplies. Then there was a run
on all bread, eggs and dairy. Now it is looking like meat might be next.
Memorial Day to be observed online

Since at least the end of World War II in 1945, Richwood Area Veterans and
their auxiliary members have faithfully remembered and honored their
fellow comrades who were killed in war or fallen in peacetime on Memorial
Day. They have organized services at York, Price and Claibourne Cemeteries
and held a parade in Richwood.
But now, in 2020, the much smaller and older veteran’s group will carry
out their oath to remember their departed service members in a much
different way.
NU plans in-person
graduation

Despite being unable to hold typical commencement ceremonies, North Union
will hold in-person diploma presentations.
The district is doing its best to build end-of-the-year events around what
seniors want, while still observing guidance from the Ohio Department of
Health and Gov. Mike DeWine.
Council to sell land

Council members approved Resolution 05022020 which authorizes the village
of Richwood to enter into a memorandum of understanding with the Community
Improvement Corporation (CIC) of Union County with respect to the sale and
transfer of an approximately 8.46 acre tract of land owned by the village.
Library takes orders for books and materials

The Richwood-North Union Public Library has announced a new service called
“Grab and Go.”
Due to the COVID-19 “Stay Safe Ohio” guidelines, the local public library
is still not open to the public, but they are able to take orders to be
picked up.
Area schools to lose nearly $2.2M

Earlier this week, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine announced he was cutting $355
million for schools from the state budget.
As a result, local districts will lose nearly $2.2 million in state
funding over the next two months.

honors grads

The North Union Board of Education met Monday evening via an online
meeting on YouTube for their regular monthly meeting. Superintendent Rich
Baird shared with board members resolutions honoring the middle school
girls eighth grade basketball team and the varsity boys basketball team
during the meeting.
Final election round up: results hold; Rodger wins
judge’s race

While the numbers have changed, the results have not.
The Union County Board of Elections Tuesday released the final, official
results of this year’s primary election. Preliminary results were released
April 28, the final day of voting. Officials however said there were more
than 1,100 potential votes to be counted coming from provisional ballots
and mail-in ballots that could have been post marked on time, but received
after the election.
RABA holds online meeting

Members of the Richwood Area Business Association (RABA) met May 12 for
their monthly meeting via the Internet. Area business representatives
discussed upcoming events.
Chad Hoffman, Richwood Bank, stated that bank lobbies will re-open June 1.
Vandalism leads
to indictments

The Union County Grand Jury has indicted a Marion man in connection with a
series of January car break-ins.
The grand jury has indicted Shawn Allen Stansberry, of Marion, charging
him with seven counts each of breaking and entering and theft and one
count each of theft of drugs, receiving stolen property and petty theft.
Students receive scholarships, awards virtually

The Annual North Union Scholarship and Awards was unable to be a public
event due to the Coronavirus pandemic. So high school staff got creative
and showed a virtual awards event over several evenings online.
North Union honors the Class of 2020

North Union High School graduation is set for Friday, May 29, at 7 p.m.
The gymnasium will be empty because of the Coronavirus guidelines set by
Governor Mike DeWine.
Because of the “social distancing” guidelines, the high school
administration and staff videotaped a graduation ceremony by individually
taping each student receiving their diplomas walking across the
stage. The video will be aired on social media Friday for viewers to
observe.
Council discusses new streets in Dudley Circle

Council met Monday evening for their regular meeting with council member
Lauri Eliot Shea and Village Administrator Monte Asher absent from the
meeting.
Councilman Reddy Brown asked Mayor Scott Jerew where the village stood on
the type of street that would be constructed in the Dudley Circle project.
