Union County voters had plenty to vote for on the ballot Tuesday, if they had not voted early. There were several uncontested positions and a few contested races.

Richwood man killed in motorcycle crash

A Richwood man is dead following a fatal motorcycle crash Thursday morning.
The Delaware Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to the scene of a one-vehicle fatal crash on Route 37 near mile post 3 in Scioto Township, Delaware County at 3:17 a.m. Thursday, according to a report from Lieutenant E. A. Caudill.

Funds available to help COVID-19 households

Bridges Community Action Partnership, who serves Champaign, Delaware, Logan, Madison, Shelby and Union counties, has announced that there are funds available to assist households impacted by COVID-19 with rent or mortgage payments and to prevent water and sewer disconnections beginning November 2, 2020.

Grant will provide fire safety, help for seniors

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has received a $526,000 grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Fire Prevention & Safety (FP&S) program in support of reducing fires and falls among older adults, a key high-risk population. The funding will help broaden the reach and scale of Remembering When™: A fire and fall prevention program for older adults through the development of updated digital training and resources, which are used by public health and safety officials for implementation in their communities.

Second solar farm planned for northern U.C.

A Chicago-based company is moving forward with plans to construct another solar farm in northern Union County.
Officials from Invenergy met recently with the Union County Commissioners to discuss a proposed solar farm to be built in York, Liberty and Taylor townships.

Memorial Health new pavilions are open

Memorial Health Hospital has announced that their new facility is now open and would like to direct patients and visitors to the new areas. Patients accessing the main campus of Memorial Health at 500 London Avenue in Marysville will now utilize updated entrances as they prepare to receive inpatient or outpatient services. The Memorial Inpatient Pavilion opened on October 27, with the Outpatient Pavilion welcomed patients on Monday, Nov. 9.

NU school board approves hybrid learning

COVID-19 cases are on the rise in Union County and as of Nov. 16, there were 35 students, staff and administration on quarantine. With numbers rising daily, Superintendent Rich Baird doesn’t know if they will have enough staff to cover school days of learning.

North Union students organize a mask drive

Everyone has a story regarding the year 2020, especially with COVID-19. Seems like there are more negative comments than positive. North Union High School student Mikah Cole came up with a positive idea that would help everyone out. This is a project sponsored by the North Union SOS (Students of Service) Club.

HEAP program offers heat assistance

The Ohio Development Services Agency and Bridges Community Action Partnership want to let Ohioans know that assistance is available to help with their heating bills this winter. The Home Energy Assistance Winter Crisis Program started November 1 and helps income-eligible Ohioans pay their heating bills and can assist with fuel tank placement, fuel tank testing, and furnace repair. The program will be open until March 31, 2021.

Memorial nurse part of DeWine update

A Memorial Health nurse spoke at Gov. Mike DeWine’s press conference Thursday to share the logistical and emotional tolls COVID-19 is taking on hospital staffs.
Director of Clinical Education for Memorial Health Erin Russo said weathering the current surge in coronavirus cases feels even more taxing than running a marathon.

Council questioned about project

Richwood Village Council met Monday with some members attending remotely. Due to the COVID-19 virus, new plexi-glass shields were installed for council members and facemasks were worn following CDC guidelines.

Student gives back to village

Justin North, a senior student at North Union High School, heard that the Christmas lights at Richwood Park have been downsized and disappearing over the past years. He wanted to start a donation drive to provide more lights during the holidays at the park.

RABA announces Christmas events

The Richwood Area Business Association (RABA) has announced the events taking place in Richwood. Although COVID-19 restrictions are still in place, RABA is trying to keep the community spirit up as much as normal.
