UCATS may expand
ride service to all

The Union County Area Transportation Services (UCATS) may be transitioning
to a public transportation service.
This week, UCATS officials presented a business plan for the transition to
bring a public transportation option to the county.
Woman indicted after threats made with a gun in
Richwood

A Columbus woman has been indicted by the Union County Grand Jury after
she allegedly had a loaded weapon, concealed on her during an argument at
a local business.
Cortland Brook Crego, 25, of Columbus is charged with one count of
carrying a concealed weapon.
Robotics teams qualify for state

The 2020-2021 competition season has been one of many challenges and
delays for the North Union Robotics Teams, but the teams have shown great
perseverance and resilience this year in an effort to continue to strive
for excellence and keep things moving. After developing and following many
safety protocols and restrictions, teams delayed their first practices of
the year from August to early October, then, finally were able to begin to
attend in-person competitions starting in mid-December.
Red Cross calls for healthy blood donors

Record-breaking cold and winter storms across much of the U.S. have had a
significant impact on blood donations. The American Red Cross is urging
healthy individuals, especially those with type O blood, to give now to
ensure blood products are available for patient emergencies when help
can’t wait.
Search uncovers
drug operation on farm

Law enforcement officials seized weapons and what they believe to be drugs
following the execution of a search warrant.
Wednesday morning, members of the Union County Sheriff’s Office Special
Response Team executed a search warrant at 31578 Osborne Road, Richwood.
Dudley Circle residents ask village about drainage
issues

Several residents of Dudley Circle asked council about drainage problems,
potholes, and flooding and they want answers.
Contractor Jason Wills attended a council meeting last year listing his
plan in completing the construction project of Dudley Circle, which was
started several decades ago. Wills is the third generation contractor to
work on the development of Dudley Circle and he wants to finish the
development so that he can build additional houses. Council will not give
him permits to proceed until the street is complete.
Support available for death of NU student

Pastors and counselors were available last Tuesday at North Union schools
to help students deal with the death of a classmate.
“It is with great sorrow that I inform you that an 8th grade student at
North Union Middle School passed away unexpectedly March 1, 2021,” North
Union School District Superintendent Rich Baird wrote in a Tuesday letter
to the community.
Union County
commissioners secure legal help regarding solar farms

The Union County Commissioners have hired a Columbus based law firm to
help them prepare for several proposed and potential solar farms.
Last month, the county commissioners voted to retain the law firm of
Frost, Brown and Todd for the purpose of handling matters related to solar
development projects in Union County.

The Union County Commissioners will not be moving forward with a plan to
provide a public transportation option for all county residents.
Last month, the Union County Area Transportation Services (UCATS)
presented a business plan for the transition to bring a public
transportation option to the county.
School board hears COVID-19 update

North Union School Superintendent Rich Baird shared some exciting news to
the board at Monday night’s regular meeting regarding the Coronavirus in
the local school district.
Baird stated that over 150 staff members have received their second dose
of the COVID 1- vaccination. Currently there are no cases of COVID in the
schools since November, 2020 and three students are in quarantine. There
were 57 total cases so far, and close to 700 who were in quarantine for
the year. Baird also said that community numbers are down.
NU grad has passion
for coroner work

Haley Spriggs didn’t know what direction she wanted to go after college,
but she knew she needed an internship.
In May of last year, the 2017 North Union graduate was a senior at Bowling
Green State University.
Council taking action to secure funds

Richwood Village Council heard a few weeks ago of a finding from the State
auditor’s office that payment of approximately $19,000 was missing from
the village audit. It appears that former Fiscal Officer Timothy Goodwin
was late in mapping payments of employee benefits, insurance, and late
fees were noted.
Vaccine program continues to meet needs of county

As COVID-19 vaccine eligibility continues to expand, the Union County
Health Department is preparing to serve the largest group yet.
Union County Health Commissioner Jason Orcena said the health department
is working to ensure anyone who wants a shot has access to one, despite
nationwide supply constraints.
Plans for prom released

The North Union Junior and Senior class members are making plans for their
annual prom event. They need your help.
The Coronavirus has affected us in so many different ways over the past
year, and many people were finding themselves without extra finances due
to having to stay home without pay.
North Union High School Principal Janel Chapman has announced a plan to
help those who may not be able to afford to attend prom this year.
Officials urge caution during planting season

Local officials are encouraging residents to use safe road practices as
spring planting season approaches.
After challenging planting seasons in recent years, Union County OSU
Extension Educator Wayne Dellinger said farmers will be taking advantage
of every window of opportunity to get seeds in the ground.

to be housed in Marysville

This week, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals
(ASPCA) began constructing a temporary emergency shelter in the former
Kroger building, 1095 W. Fifth St. in Marysville.
Richwood to offer bulk water sales soon

Richwood Village Council has decided that they will be selling bulk water
to the public. Several construction companies, farmers and residents
wanting to fill swimming pools have asked about purchasing local water, so
council will begin working to accommodate the requests.
Honda temporarily halts operation due to shortage
of supplies

This week’s Honda slowdown will continue.
Last week Honda announced that most manufacturing plants in North America,
including the Marysville Auto Plant, was “temporarily suspending
production during the week of March 22.”
Two indicted on drug-related incidents

A Raymond man, already under indictment for involuntary manslaughter in
connection with the death of a Richwood man, has been indicted on
additional charges, stemming from the overdose of another individual.
South Franklin Street to close

Village Administrator Monte Asher said that due to extensive work being
done of S. Franklin St., the street will be closed from April 5 to Sept.
12.
The S. Franklin St. Project began recently with replacing water, sewer and
gas lines. Sidewalks, curbs and new street surfacing will take place
during the summer.
