Ag-Pro purchases Parrott Implement

Ag-Pro Companies officially acquired Parrott Implement Co., 396 E. Blagrove St. in Richwood, recently.
“We’re excited to be a part of Richwood and look forward to meeting the customers, determining their needs and seeing how we can better serve them,” said Tyler Cannada, corporate marketing manager of Ag-Pro. “This community has been a staple for Ohio agriculture, and we are thankful we have the opportunity to be a part of that.”

Eagle Scouts acknowledged for park projects

Richwood’s newest Boy Scouts of America Eagle Scouts were recently recognized at Richwood Park. Justin North and Trevor Brumfield received letters of commendation in a special ceremony attended by parents, grandparents, members of Troop 440, members of Pack 109, members of Village Council and Mayor Scott Jerew.

Members of the Union County Board of Health agree that damage done to the fairgrounds during COVID-19 vaccination clinics should be repaired, but are still unsure of the price and who will foot the bill.

Library announces fall programming

The Richwood-North Union Public Library has announced its fall program guide for patrons of all ages. In-person programs will be held in the meeting room with socially distanced seating. Masks are strongly recommended for all. As for virtual programming, craft bags will be available for pickup in the library’s lobby. Program videos are posted to the library’s Facebook page and YouTube channel.

Richwood Independent Fair begins

The Richwood Independent Fair started its six-day event today and runs through Labor Day Monday. Opening ceremonies were held this morning, welcoming the public to the fair.

North Union Local School District Superintendent Richard Baird sent a letter to the community on Aug. 27, stating that the COVID-19 information page on the education district’s website will be updated as cases are reported.

Union County fields, lawns experience damage from Fall Armyworm outbreak

The Fall Armyworm has taken over many fields and lawns across Ohio and more recently Union County.   Identified by daytime feeding and a very distinct inverted “Y” in their heads, they are so named because of their tendency to move in masses rapidly across areas feeding on more than 80 different crop species.

Richwood Council discusses permits for vendors, reads two resolutions to be approved this month

The Village of Richwood Council advised Kelly Jerew, who runs the Richwood Farmers Market, to notify the police of solicitors who do not pay the participation fees but set up during the Thursday farmers market at its meeting on Monday.

Committee applies for grant to fund third phase of opera house restoration project

The Richwood Revitalization Committee has begun the application process for T-Mobile’s Hometown Grant Program.
The T-Mobile Hometown Grant Program will provide funds for projects “to build, rebuild or refresh community spaces that help foster local connections.”
Through the program, T-Mobile is committing $25 million to small town grants over the next five years.

Parrott to keep Marysville Municipal Court judge seat after two candidates drop out

A pair of candidates for Marysville Municipal Court have dropped out of the race.
At a recent meeting, the Union County Board of Elections announced that Union County Assistant Prosecutor Andrew Bigler and Juvenile Court Chief Magistrate Sharon Robinson-Walls each voluntarily pulled out of the race, leaving Robert W. Parrott as the only candidate.

Union County Health Department raises awareness about opioid prevention as epidemic continues

The Union County Health Department is working to fight the effects of the opioid epidemic, as the area has already seen more fatal overdoses in 2021 than recent years. 
In Union County, 10 county residents have died of overdoses while law enforcement agencies responded to 31 non-fatal overdoses through August, according to UCHD Health Educator Lindsay Fetherolf.

Grand jury indictments - Phone call reveals drug smuggling plan at prison

A jailhouse phone call has led to an indictment for several local residents.
A Union County Grand Jury has indicted Ethan Lowther, Samara Kirklin and Christopher Slone, alleging the three were part of a plot to sneak drugs into the Tri-County Regional Jail.

North Union school board receives complaints about mobile ticketing

In addition to COVID-19 safety protocols, the switch to mobile ticketing since the pandemic has been a controversial topic among the North Union school community.
Parent Brandon Stringer approached the North Union Local Schools Board of Education during its meeting on Monday night to argue that taxpayers should not have to pay the processing fee for mobile ticketing at sporting events.

Virus found in Union County

Several mosquito pools in Union County have tested positive for West Nile Virus.
Union County Health Department Environmental Health Director Marcia Dreiseidel said during the Sept. 15 Board of Health meeting “a couple pools came back positive” following testing at the Ohio Department of Health lab.

Plan for area solar farm meets resistance

Representatives from Samsung C&T Corporation America and HULL emphasized that the proposed solar field near Richwood will not negatively impact farmland it may be built on or adjacent properties during an informational meeting.
The preliminary meeting, held at the Leesburg Township Fire Department on Thursday evening, was arranged by township from Leesburg, Claiborne and Taylor townships.

Task force pops pot operation in York Township

Investigators removed four pickup trucks worth of marijuana from a York Township home
Monday, detectives from Union County’s Multi-Agency Drug Enforcement (M.A.D.E.) Task Force executed a search warrant at 17563 Boundary Road in York Township. As a result of the search warrant, investigators removed 29 live marijuana plants as well as marijuana drying in a barn and in a garage on the property.

Marysville based attorney seeks position with Richwood as village solicitor to replace Boggs

Local attorney Julie Spain attended the Village of Richwood Council meeting on Monday to introduce herself as a candidate for village solicitor, replacing Alison Boggs.

Opera House ownership to be discussed

The Richwood Revitalization Committee’s layout work group is expected to lead presentations about the Richwood Opera House ownership, as discussed during its meeting on Sept. 23.
The layout work group will provide options for ownership, either by the village or by a new non-profit the committee establishes.

Park Day successful

The Richwood Trailblazers hosted a Customer Appreciation Day at Richwood Park and Lake recently, to show appreciation to the residents and supporters of all the work that has taken place the past two years at the facility. The addition of the walking path, new shelter house and playground near the beach, handicapped swings, ADA compliant floating fishing dock and kayak boat launch has been installed for visitor’s enjoyment.
