At this year’s fair, sheep and goat exhibitors  will have a little more room to breathe.
Construction finished this week on the new sheep barn at the Richwood Independent Fairgrounds.
Fair President Cody Johnston said the new building will give exhibitors much more space.
“We had sheep and goats in the same barn before, this allows each to have their own place,” he said.
Johnston said recent fair participants have grown in numbers.

A substantial amount of the design plans for the Magnetic Springs portion of the sewer project are done and ready to submit to the state.
Project Manager Craig Mescher, with Access Engineering Solutions, said, though there are minor things to clear up, the company would submit the plans to ODOT and then the Environmental Protection Agency, but is also planning for a public meeting to update residents at the end of this month.

Local officials help to fund natural gas lobby
By Michael Williamson, Richwood Gazette
Officials agreed to give a portion of funds to a gas-lobbying group working to bring natural gas to some central Ohio counties.
At Wednesday’s county commissioners meeting, the board agreed to give the money to the Ohio Gas Access Partnership (OGAP), which will help with the writing of a bill to incentivize gas companies to invest in central Ohio.
The money would be one portion of a larger pot that each of the participating OGAP counties – Adams, Ross, Champaign, Logan, Madison, Union and Washington – would contribute to.

Veterans group plans annual D.C. trip for fall
By Michael Williamson, Richwood Gazette
A Richwood veteran will have a unique opportunity to pay his respects to his fallen comrades this fall.
Leo Speicher, who served in the Vietnam War, will be traveling to Washington, D.C. later this year with fellow veterans to tour the historic monuments. Speicher was asked to participate in an Arlington National Cemetery tradition.
“I was asked to lay a wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Solider,” he said. “I’m honored to go but hesitant.”
Speicher said the trip, which will be a return to the nation’s capital, comes with a heaviness that is hard to shake.
“I was there before with the Vietnam Memorial and it really was hard to do,” Speicher said.

U.C. Fair wraps up; officials pleased with results
By Mac Cordell, Marysville J-T Reporter
Union County Fair officials said they are pleased with this year’s event and acknowledged they are still working on final numbers for this year’s attendance, gate receipts, and livestock sale.
“It went well,” Michelle Kuhlwein with the Union County Fair Board said of this year’s fair.
She said that because tickets are sold online, she will need to check with the online agent to get the total attendance and the gate receipts. She said she “hasn’t had time” to review those numbers.
Even so, Kuhlwein said “the gates were about the same as last year.”

Mike Love: Beach Boys show to focus on harmony
By Michael Williamson, Richwood Gazette
When the Beach Boys take the stage at the All Ohio Balloon Fest next week, they want the audience to feel something that has guided their career for more than 60 years: harmony.
Mike Love, who co-founded the iconic 1960s southern California band with his cousins Brian, Carl and Dennis Wilson, as well as friend (and Ohio native) Al Jardine, said harmony was with the group at the very beginning. Luckily, he added, it never left.

A group of hopeful entrepreneurs sat on one side of the large, rectangular table as they pitched their business ideas to the experts sitting across from them.
The ideas ranged from opening a greenhouse that grows the ingredients for holistic skincare products to creating hand-sewn tote bags with butterfly patches, from which the proceeds will benefit domestic violence shelters.

Hope Center to benefit from Balloon Fest proceeds
By Kayleen Petrovia, Marysville J-T Reporter
A weekend of fun at the All Ohio Balloon Fest will benefit a local organization working to help community members in need.
Once again, proceeds from the annual event will benefit the Hope Center, a local nonprofit that serves those throughout Union County.
Through the partnership, the Hope Center will provide volunteers to assist with the shaped hot air balloons at the Balloon Fest. In return, AOBF will donate $100 for every volunteer.
“Our volunteers really enjoy being a part of it,” said Tisha Miller, director of Community Ministries at the Hope Center.
In 2021, the All Ohio Balloon Fest donated $15,000 to the Hope Center.
“That goes a long way,” said Miller.
