ROY T. COMBS
Roy T. Combs, 77, of Columbus died Friday, Aug. 27, 2004, at the
Arlington Court Nursing Home.
He retired in 1980 from General Castings in Delaware.
He was born Dec. 11, 1926, in Logan, W.Va., to the late Chester and
Bertha Johnson Combs and was predeceased by two brothers and four
children.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly; sons, Thomas (Brenda) and James
(Linda); five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; nine brothers;
four sisters; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held today at the J.P. Rogers Funeral Home in
Wellston and burial was at Salem Cemetery.

MAGDALENA DOROTHEA HOFFMAN
Magdalena Dorothea Hoffman, 93, of Marysville died Monday, Aug. 30,
2004, at Heartland of Marysville after an extended illness.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and homemaker,
She was born May 10, 1911, in Milford Center to the late Alfred and
Caroline Daum Herchenhahn and was predeceased by a daughter, Beverly
Jean Hoffman; a grandson, Michael Holcomb; a great-grandson, Joel
Graham; a sister, Elizabeth Hoffman; a brother, William Herchenhahn; and
a daughter-in-law, Patricia Hoffman. She married Vernon T. Hoffman April
10, 1936, in Marysville and he died Dec. 12, 2001.
She is survived by her children, Donald E. (Phyllis) Hoffman, Joan C.
(Robert) Cook of Marysville, Sara L. Hoffman of Dublin and Virgil M.
(Judy Salyer) Hoffman of Richwood; 10 grandchildren, Suzi (Richard)
Bergandine, Sandy (Robert) McNary, Mickie (Jacob) Daniel, Sally Hay, Tim
Hay, Karen Gilmore, Eddie (Shannon) Hay, Greta (Jeff) Graham, Mary Gould
and Greg Tillman; 10 great-grandchildren, Stefan Graham, Megan Gould,
Kyle Gilmore, Nicholas Hay, Rene Mays, Holly Riegel, Chris and Jamie
McNary and Gunner and Cannon Daniel; four great-grandchildren; a
brother-in-law, Carl Hoffman of Delaware; a sister-in-law, Mary
Herchenhahn of Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Ingram Funeral
Home. The Rev. Ronald Payne will officiate and burial will be at St.
John's Lutheran Church Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8
p.m. Thursday.

LAURA L. GRINSTEAD MARTIN
Laura L. Grinstead Martin, 50, of Plain City died unexpectedly Saturday,
Aug. 28, 2004, with her husband, David P. Martin, in Youngstown as the
result of an automobile accident.
She was born March 15, 1954 In Columbus. She was a 1972 graduate of
Columbus West High School and recently retired from ATT after 32 years
of service.
She is survived by three children, Dustin Martin, Heather Martin and
Stephanie Martin of Plain City; her parents, Roy and Barbara Peters
Grinstead of Columbus; two brothers, Greg Grinstead of Marysville and
David (Maryann) Grinstead of California; three sisters, Cindy (Tim)
Glick of West Jefferson, Julie (Don) Bouchard of Mount Vernon and Aleta
(Ken) Massey of Columbus; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pastor Drew Walther will officiate at memorial services at 8 p.m.
Wednesday at the Ferguson Funeral Home in Plain City. Friends may call

DAVID P. MARTIN
David P. Martin, 50, of Plain City died unexpectedly Saturday, Aug. 28,
2004, with his wife, Laura L. Grinstead Martin, in Youngstown as the
result of an automobile accident.
He was a 1972 graduate of Bishop Ready High School, had worked for UPS
for 24 years and was currently employed by Honda of America.
He was born May 2, 1954, in Columbus to the late Patrick J. and Marveen
K. Merrill Martin.
He is survived by three children, Dustin Martin, Heather Martin and
Stephanie Martin of Plain City; four brothers, Dennis (Kay) Martin of
Freehold, N.J., Richard (Judy) Martin of McComb, Mich., Tom (Sharon)
Martin of Granville and Tim (Barb) Martin of Johnstown; two sisters,
Patricia Mowrey of Columbus and Mary Katherine (Leigh) Daniels of
Marysville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

AMANDA MICHAELLE MILLER GRUNDEN
Amanda Michaelle Miller Grunden, 38, of Savoy, Ill, died Thursday, Aug.
26, 2004.
She graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Ohio Wesleyan
University with degrees in music, anthropology and sociology and
received her Ph.D. from the Anthropology Department of the University of
Illinois. She conducted dissertation research on cultural anthropology
in Indonesia as a Fulbright Scholar and shot video for the National
Geographic Society. She had been employed by the University of Illinois
in the Academic Outreach Department. An accomplished musician, vocalist
and artist, she loved nature, travel, cycling, volunteer work and
multi-media development and production.
She was born Dec. 16, 1965, in Columbus to Michael and Patricia Gribben
Miller and was predeceased by two grandfathers.
She is survived by her husband, Eric Grunden; her mother of Delaware;
her father, Michael (Penny) Miller of Wheeling, W.Va.; two grandmothers,
Phyllis Gribben of Delaware and Catherine Miller of Wheeling; and two
brothers, Michael Miller of Herndon, Va., and Benjamin Miller of
Delaware.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
The Lux Memorial Chapel in Rantoul, Ill., is in charge of arrangements.

MARVIN GWIN HOFFMAN
Marvin Gwin Hoffman, 66, died Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004, at his home
following an illness with cancer.
A former associate of the Nestle Company, he was well known by his CB
handle, "Mr. Haney," and he enjoyed buying, selling and trading.
He was born July 10, 1938, in Unionville Center to the late Robert and
Clarabelle Piper Hoffman and was predeceased by two grandsons, Darren
and Derrick Hill; a sister, Carrie Hoffman; and two brothers, Richard
and Frank Hoffman.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Marlene "Molly" Cook Hoffman
whom he married March 6, 1961; five children, Marvin (Cora) Hoffman and
Debra (Ron) Whaley of Columbus and Elvin (Cindy) Hoffman, Donna (Bill)
Gillenwater and Hope (Van) Gambrel of Bellefontaine; 17 grandchildren,
Dusty, Misty, Tabby, Ronald, Miranda, David, Bryan, Jessica, Cassie,
Jenny, Michelle, Michael, Amber, Eric, Crystal, Christopher and Marvin;
many great-grandchildren; five brothers, John (Judy) Hoffman, Vern
Hoffman, Dan (Helen) Hoffman, Bob (Evelyn) Hoffman and Dennis Hoffman;
three sisters, Janet (George) Cook, Hazel Hoffman and Dolly Stepp;
brothers- and sisters-in-law, Robert (JoAnn) Cook, Russell (Peggy) Cook,
Butch (Sue) Cook, Dodie (Larry) Burton and Emma (Lee) Holycross; and
many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Freedom Free Will
Baptist Church, formerly Heartland Union Free Will Baptist, 9720 Route
161, two miles east of Plain City. The Rev. Wayne Mays will officiate
and burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Union Township
Cemetery in Milford Center. Friends may call at the church from 2 p.m.
until the time of the service.

ROBERT SIDNEY MARCINKO
Robert Sidney Marcinko, 83, of Reedsville died Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004,
at St. Joseph Hospitalin Parkersburg, W.Va., after a 17-year illness.
He was retired as a carpenter, school bus driver and township trustee.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Pomeroy and Local 650
Carpenter Union. He had served in the CCC.
He was born June 9, 1921, in Long Bottom to the late Charles P. and
Virgie I. Bailey Marcinko and was predeceased by two sisters, Rose Jane
Marcinko and Mary Marshman; three brothers, Charles C. Marcinko, Bernard
Marcinko and Eugene Marcinko; and a son-in-law, Mike M. Lehner.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Maxine Eskew Marcinko; four daughters,
Rose M. Lehner, Theresa (Phil) Lashley, Roxie (Dan) Marcinko and Marie
(Mike) Johnson; eight sons, Robert (Nancy) Marcinko, Stephen (Tammy)
Marcinko, Michael (Theresa) Marcinko, Dennis (Kim) Marcinko, David (Kay)
Marcinko, Eric (Millie) Marcinko, Jeffrey Marcinko and Kevin (Belinda)
Marcinko; 36 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Georgianna
(Donald) Trussel; and two brothers, Thomas (Patricia) Marcinko and
Manning (Gloria) Marcinko.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart
Church in Pomeroy. The Rev. David Huffman will officiate and burial will
be at Our Lady of Loretto Cemetery in Reedsville. Friends may call from

DANIEL L. SHIRK
Daniel L. Shirk, 56, of Marion died unexpectedly Friday, Aug. 27, 2004,
in the Marion General Hospital Emergency Room.
He was a lifelong resident of Marion and a 1966 graduate of Marion
Harding High School. He earned a bachelor of science degree in education
from Ohio University in 1970 and a master's of education administration
degree from Bowling Green State University in 1978. He completed
additional coursework from Ashland University and Kent State University.
He retired from the Marion City Schools after 31 years and most recently
worked through the North Central Educational Service Center as director
of student accounting and truant officer for the Marion City and county
schools.
He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Marion, the Marion Harding
Parent Teacher Organization, Ohio Gun Collectors Association and
National Wild Turkey Association and life member of the Ohio Retired
Teachers Association and Marion City/County Retired Teachers
Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking, golf, bicycling and
spending time with his family.
His coaching experience included middle school football, basketball and
track from 1970 to 1973; high school assistant wrestling and junior
varsity football, 1973 to 1974; assistant football and wrestling at the
freshman building, 1974 to 1975; assistant football and baseball at the
high school, 1975 to 1977; assistant varsity baseball, 1977 to 1990;
assistant freshman football, 1989 to 1993; and assistant girls varsity
basketball, 1997 to 2000.
He was predeceased by his father, Delbert LeRoy Shirk, and is survived
by his wife, Susan Daas Shirk whom he married June 29, 1974, in Marion;
his mother, JoAnn Creasap Shirk of Marion; two daughters, Bethany Sue
(John) Carder of Marysville and Breanne Noel Shirk of Marion; a
granddaughter, Taylor; and a sister, Peggy (Steve) Phillips of Plano,
Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Baptist
Church in Marion with the Rev. Steve Roper officiating. Friends may call
from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the Gunder/Hall and Folk Funeral Home, 347 W.
Center St., Marion.

ASHTON LYNNA MOORE
Ashton Lynna Moore, 28-day-old daughter of Bryan and Shirrah Painter
Moore died Thursday, Aug. 26, 2004, at Children's Hospital in Columbus
after being born 16 weeks premature.
She was born July 29, 2004, at the Ohio State University Hospital in
Columbus.
Along with her parents, she is survived by four sisters, Makaila
Painter, 6, Makena Painter, 4, Makenzie Meyers, 2, and Hannah Wusthoff,
5 months; maternal grandparents, Sharon Painter, London, Ky., and Mark
and Jody Painter, Newport News, Va.; paternal grandparents, James and
Lisa Moore of Marysville; maternal great-grandparents, Janice and Paul
Litter of Corbin, Ky., Howard and Faith Ann Caldwell of Delaware and
Donald and Paula Painter of Lima; paternal great-grandparents, Dave and
Lou Herron of Wapakoneta and Leo and Margaret Moore of St. Marys;
maternal great-great-grandmothers, Margaret Ford of Orlando, Fla., and
Clara Law of Lima; three aunts, Merydith (Kenneth) Rush of Yorktown,
Va., Renee Painter of Newport News, Va., and Lara Moore of Marysville;
and several great-aunts and great-uncles.
Services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at the Mannasmith Funeral Home.
The Rev. Lonnie Storms of the Church of the Nazarene in Corbin, Ky.,
will officiate and the burial will take place at Oakdale Cemetery.

JAMES DILLION
James Dillion, 51, of Cable died Thursday, Aug. 26, 2004, in Memorial
Hospital of Union County.
He was an avid sports fan and an employee of Pizza Hut in Urbana.
He was born Aug. 16, 1954, in Marysville to the late Robert and Joy
(Sparks) Dillion and was predeceased by a brother, Robert Dillion Jr.
He is survived by two sisters, Beverly (Jerry) White of South Vienna and
Gloria Jean Segraves of Oklahoma; one brother, David Dillion of
Marysville; four nieces, Monica, Angela, Stephanie and Jessica; one
nephew, Shawn; and special friend Tammy Roach of Cable.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Monday from 6 to 8 p.m.
at the Skillman, McDonald & Vernon Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in the Paint
Township Cemetery, London.

ROBERT E. LAIRD SR.
Robert E. Laird Sr., 72, of Richwood died Sunday, Aug. 22, 2004, at
Marion General Hospital.
He was a 1949 graduate of Marion Harding High School and retired from
the former B.F. Goodrich and Parker Hannifan in Green Camp. He was a
member of Mount Carmel Lodge 303 F&AM in Richwood and Amvets Post 168 in
Marion and was a volunteer at Memorial Hospital of Union County. He
enjoyed walking his dog, Boo, around Richwood.
He was born July 20, 1932, in Marion and was predeceased by a son,
William; three brothers, Edwin, Lloyd and Pearle; and on Aug. 27, 1992,
by his second wife, Bette Jane Jackson Laird.
He is survived by two daughters, Robin Laird-Cleveland and Ronda Lee
Laird-McMurray of Marion; a son, Robert "Bo" Laird Jr. of Marion; seven
grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his first wife, Janice Marie
(Honaker) of Marion; a sister, Ruthe Laird-Cooper of Marion; a brother,
Earle W. (Ethel) Laird of Marion; two stepdaughters, Denise Mills and
Diana Scheiderer of Columbus; and uncles, aunts and nephews.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Stofcheck Funeral Home
in Richwood where Masonic services will be conducted at 7:45 p.m.
Private burial will take place at the Claibourne Cemetery at a later

JONATHAN DRAKE "JOHNNY" ELLIOTT
Jonathan Drake "Johnny" Elliott, 88, of West Mansfield died Sunday, Aug.
22, 2004, at Heartland of Bellefontaine with his family at his side.
He was employed for 38 years with the West Mansfield Grain Elevator and
retired in 1984 after 10 years of service with the Logan County Highway
Department. He was a longtime member of the West Mansfield United
Methodist Church and was a former Sunday School teacher. He was a U.S.
Army veteran of World War II, serving from Dec. 23, 1942, to Nov. 14,
1945, stationed with the 170th Military Police Company in Cairo, Egypt,
and receiving two Bronze Stars. He was a 1935 graduate of West Mansfield
High School, past president of the West Mansfield Conservation Club and
former member of West Mansfield American Legion Post 603 and the
Hi-Point Seesaws Western Square Dance Club. He will be remembered as a
longtime Little League coach, an avid hunter and fisherman and a proud
family man.
He was born May 14, 1916, near West Mansfield to the late Lloyd and
Belva Drake Elliott and was predeceased by a son, Charles Elliott; and
two brothers, Donald and Charles Elliott.
He is survived by his wife of more than 65 years, Helen Cowan Elliott to
whom he was married July 2, 1939, in Mount Vernon, Ky., by the Rev. C.L.
Launce; a daughter, Marjorie (Dean) Oliver of West Mansfield; a
daughter-in-law, Debra Elliott of Bowling Green; two grandchildren,
Christopher (Josie) Oliver of Fort Lewis, Wash., and Michelle Oliver of
West Mansfield; a great-granddaughter, Savannah; a brother, Carl (Sue)
Elliott of West Mansfield; two sisters, Virginia Inskeep of East Liberty
and Florence Mortimer, a resident of Green Hills; two sisters-in-law,
Edna Elliott of Mentor and Rebecca Cowan of West Mansfield; a
brother-in-law, Richard (Mildred) Cowan of Huntsville; several nieces
and nephews; and his church family.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the
West Mansfield United Methodist Church. The Rev. David Wilson will
officiate. Friends may call one hour prior to the service and are
invited to a reception in the church basement following the service.

OPAL M. BRUST
Opal M. Brust, 87, of Woodstock died peacefully Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004,
at Logan Acres in Bellefontaine.
She was a member of the North Lewisburg United Methodist Church, the
Champaign County Farm Bureau and Sunset Extension Homemakers and was an
advisor to the Busy Fingers 4-H Club for many years. She enjoyed her
flowers, working in the garden and sewing with her grandchildren. She
attended the Allen Center schools and graduated from Marysville High
School in 1935.
She was born June 11, 1917, in Allen Township, Union County, to the late
Victor G. and Sara L. Wilson Robinson and was predeceased by a
stepfather, Everett Leigh, her husband, Norman in 1981; an infant son; a
daughter, Barbara Daniel in 1976; three brothers, Lowell, Carl and
Vernon Robinson; and a sister, Jaunice Ryan.
She is survived by a son, Howard (Donna) Brust of Urbana; two daughters,
Diane E. (Jon) Falk of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Nancy L. (Jeff) Massie of
St. Paris; seven grandchildren, Duane (Kelly) Daniel, Kelly (Michele)
Daniel, Amanda Brust, Holly Jordan, Justin Massie, Erin Massie and
Caitlin Falk; five great-grandchildren, Kylie, Drew, Braeden and Emily
Daniel and Allison Massie; a sister, Ruth Luh of Minneapolis, Minn.; a
brother, Donald Robinson of Marysville; a son-in-law, Melvin Daniel of
Marysville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the North
Lewisburg United Methodist Church. The Rev. Kathy Reiff will officiate
and burial will be at the Union Township Cemetery in Milford Center.

A. EILEEN SMITH
A. Eileen Smith, 79, of Marysville died peacefully and with dignity
Sunday, Aug. 22, 2004, in the intensive care unit at Memorial Hospital
of Union County with her family and minister at her side following a
short illness.
A loving wife, mother and grandmother, she was formerly employed as an
office assistant with Ripley Chevrolet and Marysville Lanes. She was a
faithful 61-year member of the Marysville First United Methodist Church
and volunteered for many church activities and with Mobile and Community
Meals where she achieved more than 4,500 volunteer hours. She enjoyed
word search puzzles and bingo and was an avid bowler and golfer. She
traveled to the Smoky Mountains for 11 consecutive years and was a
camping enthusiast. She found great joy in attending her granddaughters'
ball games and she will be remembered as a one-of-a-kind spirited woman.

She was born June 29, 1925, in Ridgeway to the late M. Emmet and Vrytle
Anna Keller Davis and was predeceased by a brother, Robert L. Davis. She
married Ernest Eugene "Ernie" Smith June 27, 1945, and he died on Oct.
24, 1983.
She is survived by a daughter, Sharon K. (John) Daniels of Marysville; a
son, Robert (Dee) Smith of Richwood; three granddaughters Shannon
Kathleen and Amanda Michelle Daniels and Rebecca Ann Smith; a
sister-in-law, Sandra Stonebraker of Lawrenceville, Ga.; and many nieces
and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Mannasmith
Funeral Home. The Rev. Richard Teller will officiate and burial will be
at Oakdale Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today.

CLYDE E. CARTER
Clyde E. Carter, 89, of Richwood died Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004, at the
Sunbridge Care Center in Marion.
He was a retired farmer and a member of the Essex United Methodist
Church. He was clerk for many years for Jackson Township and was a
member of the Farm Bureau, URE and the Richwood Civic Center. He was a
graduate of the Ohio State University with honors with degrees in
mathematics and German and was a member of the OSU Alumni Association.
He was born Oct. 25, 1914, in Jackson Township to the late Ben and
Vinnie Young Carter and was predeceased by two brothers, Ben and Ralph
Carter. He married Julia d'Olieslagers Feb. 10, 1973, in Long Beach,
Calif., and she died April 15, 1997.
He is survived by Phillis I. Griffith of Richwood, whom he raised, and
her family, Jeff (Phyllis S.) Griffith and Deb Lewis of Richwood and
their families.; a niece, Norma Etherington; and stepchildren, Carol
Beecher, Jack Theunnissen and Dave Chapman.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Stofcheck
Funeral Home in Richwood. The Rev. Bryan Lauzau will officiate and
burial will be at the Price Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m.

LOIS HAGGARD JONES
Lois Haggard Jones, 101, of Columbus, formerly of Marysville and Fort
Myers Beach, Fla., died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, at Wesley Glen Care
Center in Columbus.
 A 1920 graduate of Marysville High School, she was an associate of
Gates McDonald and a member of Clintonville Woman's Club.
She was born May 30, 1903, in Union County to the late John Franklin and
Viola Stimmel Haggard. She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur W.
Jones and two brothers, Lawrence and Dwight Haggard.
She is survived by a sister, Frances Haggard Smith of Columbus; two
nieces Norma Wine of Columbus and Jeanne McLaughlin of Charlotte, N.C.;
and a stepson, George Jones of Columbus.
Graveside services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Oakdale Cemetery.

EUNICE MAIN
Eunice Main, 88, of North Farms Road Wallingford, Conn., died at the
Connecticut Baptist Home on Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004.
She was born April 5, 1916 in Ostrander, a daughter of the late Joseph
Allen and Estella Graham Main.
Miss Main graduated from Ostrander High School in 1934, Grant School of
Nursing and Ohio University. She had been a teaching registered nurse
working at Grant Hospital in Columbus, Middlesex Hospital in Middletown
and was the assistant director of nurses at Meriden-Wallingford
Hospital, Meriden. She had also worked as a teacher of science in the
Newington school system, retiring as guidance counselor.
She is survived by a dear friend, Mary Jane Buck of Wallingford; sister,
Margaret Bouic of Marysville; six nieces and nephews, Sharon and Barbara
Main of Hilliard, Ann (Ed) Bouic Yadon of Talkeetna, Ala., Frank Allen
(Barbara) Bouic of Ostrander, Don (Phyllis) Bouic of Milford Center and
Walter (Marie) Bouic of Marysville. She is survived by seven great
nieces and nephews and nine great-great nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother, Wendell Graham Main.
Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Tuesday at 11 a.m.
at the Ostrander Presbyterian Church. The family will meet friends and
relatives at the church at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will take place at
Marlborough Cemetery following the service. The service will be in
charge of Lay Pastor Michael Norris.

MANUEL MICHAEL "BUDDY" DAUM
Manuel Michael "Buddy" Daum, 90, of Marysville, formerly of Unionville
Center, died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, at Heartland of Marysville.
He was a 33-year employee of North American Rockwell as a lathe
machinist and retired March 14, 1974. A hard worker, he enjoyed
remodeling houses, country music, playing cards, eating out, genealogy,
fishing and most of all reading his Bible and spending time with his
family. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church.
He was born March 14, 1914, near Marysville to the late George Peter and
Margaret "Maggie" Streng Daum. He married Ruth Adell Evans April 22,
1935 and she preceded him in death on March 19, 1986. He was also
preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Daum; a son-in-law, George
Bright; five brothers, Gerhardt, Leonard, George, Ray and Harold Daum
and four sisters, Clara Baltz, Lena McCarty, Katherine Heath and
Ernestine Daum.
He is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Sue (Jim) Kirkpatrick of
Russells Point and Christine E. Bright of Raymond; two sons, Manuel
Richard (Wanda) Daum of Unionville Center and Willard Curtis (Martha)
Daum of Powell; 14 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 16
great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Ernest Daum of Huntsville; a
sister, Mary (Albert) Mabe of Powell; two sisters-in-law, Patty Daum of
Marysville and Mary Daum of Columbus and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Mannasmith Funeral
Home, 621 W. Fifth St. The Rev. John M. Groat will officiate and burial
will take place at Darby Township Cemetery in Unionville Center. Friends
may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Mannasmith Funeral Home.

DALLAS R. BLACK
Dallas R. Black, 76, of Marysville died Monday, Aug. 16, 2004, at his
residence.
A member of the Springdale Baptist Church, he was retired from the
Marion Correctional Institution, was engaged in farming and was a former
school bus driver for Marysville and Leesburg-Magnetic schools. In his
retirement years, he was a security officer for Goodyear and The Scotts
Co.
He was born March 3, 1928, in Marysville to the late George H. and
Dollie Brown Black. He married the former Delores E. Rausch February 16,
1947, and she preceded him in death May 31, 1995.
He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Ann Peterman, whom he
married July 1, 2004; two daughters, Debby R. (Bill) Galloway and Drudy
R. (Mike) Yoakam, both of Marysville; a son, Donald R. (Patricia) Black
of Richwood; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and a sister
Peggy J. (George) Ackley.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Ingram Funeral
Home. The Rev. Steve Waltman will officiate and burial will follow at
the Union Township Cemetery in Milford Center. Calling hours will be
Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

FORREST G. HANSON
Forrest G. Hanson, 71, of Marysville died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004, in the
comfort of his own home following an extended illness.
A devoted member of the Marysville Missionary Baptist Church, he was a
retired painter and 25-year member of the Painter's Union Local 1275. He
served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a lifetime member
of the VFW Post 3320. He enjoyed collecting coins and amusng his family,
especially with his "Billy the Bass" singing fish. His greatest joy came
from spending time with his family.
He was born Oct. 8, 1932, in Columbus to the late Elden and Elma Geho
Hanson. He was preceded in death by a son, Forrest Clayton Hanson; a
grandson, Jonathon Edward Hanson; three brothers, David, Paul and Bob
Hanson; two sisters, Joyce Beigh and Juanita Geho and a daughter-in-law,
Mariah Hanson.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Annette Joyce Smith Hanson, whom
he married June 22, 1956, in Columbus; two sons, Forrest Ricky Hanson
and Lee Allen (Ashley) Hanson, both of Marysville; a daughter, Dorene
Gannon of Marysville; eight grandchildren, Amanda Hanson, Christopher
Adam Hanson, Chad Allen Hanson, Zachary Adam Hanson, Jakob Michael
Hanson and Forrest Clayton Hanson, Jr., Karen (Quint) Moore and
Christina Marie Brookbank; four great-grandchildren, Hannah and Gracie
Moore and Gabriel and Ariel Hoffman; two brothers, Daniel (Martha)
Hanson of Columbus and George (Betty) Hanson of York, Pa.; three
sisters, Wanda Samons and Neoma Welch of Columbus and Alma Jean Vincent
of Texas and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Marysville Missionary
Baptist Church, 15395 County Home Road. The Rev. Chris Bocklage will
officiate and burial with military honors conducted by the Union County
Honor Guard will be at Oakdale Cemetery. Friends may call from 11 a.m.
until the time of service at the church.

Rose A. Klinger Miller, 71, of Marysville, formerly of Upper Arlington,

The wife of a minister for 42 years, she enjoyed raising llamas and
tending to her daylilies.
She was born May 16, 1933, in Dixon to the late Elmer Ray and Evelyn
O'Bryant Klinger, Sr. She was predeceased by her husband, the Rev. Lee
A. Miller, in April 1998 and a sister, Ruth Crabill.
She is survived by a son, Dale (Marni) Miller of Harrisburg, Pa.; three
grandchildren, Andrew, Althea and Breanna Rose Miller, all of
Harrisburg, Pa.; one great granddaughter, Haley; four sisters, Ruby

ERNEST LOUIS COACHMAN
Ernest Louis Coachman, 85, of Dublin died Sunday, Aug. 15, 2004, at his
home.
He was the owner and operator of Vess Dry Company and retired in 1997. A
1937 graduate of South High School, he attended Ohio State University
and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force during WWII.
He was born Dec. 13, 1918, in Columbus to the late Peter and Rose Berke
Coachman.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty Lea Coachman, whom he
married Sept. 16, 1946, in Chicago; a daughter, Chris (Scott) Deubner of
Columbus; a son, Ernie (Jenny) Coachman, Jr. of Grove City; two
grandsons, Scott Deubner and Sam Coachman; a granddaughter, Allyson
Ballengee; a niece, Rosemary "Tracy" (Bill) Pence; and his "favorite"
aunt, Aimee Erickson of Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Northwest United
Methodist Church, 5200 Riverside Drive, one block south of Henderson
Road. The Rev. Debbie Holder will officiate and entombment will be at

CHRISTINA A. KAVE SAVILL
Christina A. Kave Savill, 25, of North Lewisburg died Sunday, Aug. 15,
2004.
Born Feb. 19, 1979, in Rock Island, Ill., she was the daughter of
Sheldon and Cindy West Kave of Urbana. On June 23, 2001, she married
Michael R. Savill, who survives.
She graduated with honors from Urbana High School with the class of 1997
and Wright State University in 2001 with a bachelor of arts degree in
arts and science. She was currently working on her masters degree in
special education at Wright State University and was employed by Triad
Local School District as an intervention specialist. Very athletic, she
coached junior varsity volleyball at Marysville High School. She
achieved multiple awards and honors in both high school and college.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her parents; two
daughters, Marley and McKenzie, both at home; two brothers, Benjamin
Kave of Urbana and Steven Kave of Scappoose, Ore.; her father-in-law and
mother-in-law, Chuck and Sharon Savill of Canton, Ill; her maternal
grandmother, Nellie West of Rock Island, Ill; maternal
great-grandmother, Gladys West of Moline, Ill; four nieces, Addisyn,
Alexa, Casey and Rhyannon; and nephew, Ian. She was greatly loved by her
family and everyone she touched will miss her greatly.
Preceding her in death were her brother, Sheldon R. Kave Jr.; paternal
grandparents; and maternal grandfather.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 1 to 3 p.m. and 4 to 8
p.m. in the Walter-Schoedinger Funeral Home, 642 S. Main St., Urbana. A
funeral service will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. at the First
Presbyterian Church, 116 W. Court St., Urbana.

BETTY ILENE WHITE
Betty Ilene White, 79, of Marysville died Monday, Aug. 16, 2004, at the
Gables at Green Pastures.
She was a former corrections officer at the Ohio Reformatory for Women.
She was born Oct. 14, 1924, in Chuckery to the late Harry and Elizabeth
Mummey Rice and is survived by a daughter, Leona McDonald.
Private funeral services will be held with burial at Oakdale Cemetery.

RICHARD W. "BILL" DEWITT
Richard W. "Bill" DeWitt, 97, of Green Camp died Saturday at the
Maplewood Nursing Home in Marion.
He was born Jan. 24, 1907, in Taylor Township, Union County, to the late
George and Jennie Mulligan DeWitt.
An Army veteran of World War II, he worked for the Union County Highway
Department and then for many years at the Rockhold Quarry in York
Center. He was a member of the Raymond VFW Post 9909 and enjoyed fishing
and gardening.
On Aug. 14, 1928, he married Geneva L. Rockhold and she died July 6,
1998.
Survivors include a sister, Margaret Van Fleet of Worthington; numerous
nieces and nephews including Barbara (Bob) Ritchie of Green Camp, whom
Bill and Geneva helped raise; sisters-in-law, Anne DeWitt of Delaware
and Twilah DeWitt of Taveres, Fla.
Preceding him in death were five brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Stofcheck
Funeral Home in Richwood where friends may call one hour prior to the
services. The Rev. Scot Gorsuch will officiate and burial will be in the
York Cemetery where veteran graveside services will be conducted by the
Richwood VFW and American Legion posts.

FRED LAVERNE PIERCE
Fred LaVerne Pierce, 91, of Richwood died at his home Saturday, Aug. 14,
2004, after a courageous battle with cancer.
A retired farmer, he was of the Methodist faith and a member of the
Central Ohio Ponies, Trotters and Pacers Association and Richwood
Matinee Club. He enjoyed watching harness racing and missed only three
Little Brown Jugs in its entire history. He also enjoyed watching the
Cincinnati Reds, playing cards and relaxing at the horse barns of the
Richwood Fairgrounds.
He was born Nov. 4, 1912, in Thompson Township, Delaware County, to the
late Pearl and Mary Bell Pierce. On Nov. 5, 1932, he married Hazel Doris
Hanawalt and she died in 1987.
Survivors include two sons, Samuel (Karen) Pierce of Dublin and Rex
(Cindy) Pierce of Magnetic Springs; three daughters, Barbara Wilson of
Delaware, Carolyn Kater of Vermillion and Connie (Marvin) Rizor of
Marysville; eight grandsons, Greg (Feda) Kater of Illinois, Stephen
(Judy) Pierce of Powell, Derek (Stephanie) Pierce of Westerville, Joel
(Leslie) Pierce of Powell, Ralph Anderson of Richwood, Alex (Rita)
Pierce of California, Doug Pierce of Westerville and Garrett (Jennifer)
Pierce of Delaware; five granddaughters, Athena (Tim) Pierce Abraham of
Cardington, Lisa Anderson Lester of Kenton, Kay (Fred) Anderson Valfre
of Texas, Heather (Tony) Welch Scott of Woodstock and Nicole Pierce of
Magnetic Springs; 24 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren;
a sister, Gertrude Cowgill of Richwood; and special friend, Mable
Watkins.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

JAMES E. RITTENHOUSE
James E. Rittenhouse, 73, of Delaware died Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004, in
the Arbors at Delaware.
Born Aug. 6, 1931, in Marysville to Taylor G. and Helen Julia Mouser
Rittenhouse, he lived most of his life in Delaware County and was a
member of Springdale Baptist Church.
Survivors include a brother, Harold (Joan) Rittenhouse of Delaware;
sister, Marjorie (Lloyd) McDowell of Marysville; and numerous nieces and
nephews.

LARY RICHARD "RED" SHEARER
Lary Richard "Red" Shearer, 67, of Marysville died Friday, Aug. 13,
2004, at Memorial Hospital of Union County, the day after suffering a
heart attack.
He retired in 1993 as owner/agent for Shearer Banks Insurance Company,
following the legacy of his father, Willis B. Shearer. He was a 1954
graduate of Marysville High School, where he played football, baseball,
basketball and ran track. He received a bachelors of arts degree from
Ohio Wesleyan University in 1958, where he played varsity football and
baseball and was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. He received a
masters degree in education from Ohio State University in 1965. He was
former principal at Raymond Elementary School, taught school at
Huntington Beach, Calif., and was a guidance counselor and psychology
teacher at Orange Coast College.
He was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church of Marysville,
where he served as deacon and trustee, sang in the choir and was
chairman of the building committee for the 1993 church addition. He
enjoyed golfing and skiing and was an avid Ohio State fan.
He was born Oct. 4, 1936, in Broadway to Willis B. and Frances
Marguerite "Marty" Sink Shearer. He was predeceased on May 29, 1995, by
his first wife, Jo Lynn Navin Shearer; in 1986 by his father; and in
1989 by his father-in-law, Thomas Navin and mother-in-law and
father-in-law, Elizabeth and Ray Baker.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly Wright Shearer, whom he married Dec.
27, 1995; his mother; a daugther, Whitney (Thomas) Dawson of Seattle,
Wash.; a son, William B. (Noelle) Shearer of Westerville; four
stepchildren, Robert (Amy) Wright of Powell; Brian (Heidi) Wright of
Worthington, Michael (Marilyn) Wright of Florida and Jackie Wright
Howell of Columbus; four grandchildren, Ryan and Matthew Dawson and Jude
and Joella Shearer; six step-grandchildren, Jessica, Thera, Jamie and
Macy Wright, Corey and Heather Howell; his mother-in-law, Imo Navin of
Marysville; three brothers-in-law, Conrad L. (Sandra) Navin of North
Carolina, C. Daniel "Dan" (Carol) Navin of Marysville and Dana (Norma)
Baker of Mount Victory; a sister-in-law, Cheryl Navin Schleeter of

JAN H. NYMEYER
Jan H. Nymeyer, 89, died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004, at Heartland of
Browning.
He moved to Canada from The Netherlands in 1951 and then to the United
States in 1957. He earned his U.S. Citizenship in 1964, an
accomplishment of which he was very proud.
He was born May 17, 1915, in Nijverdal, The Netherlands, and was
predeceased by his loving wife of 56 years, Gerry.
He is survived by his children, Henrietta (Michael) McCourt, Arnold
(Anita) Nymeyer, Joanne (Gary) Cooper and William Nymeyer;
grandchildren, Kristine (Andy) High, John (Christine) McCourt, Michael
McCourt Jr, Victoria (Michael) Short, Brittney Cooper and Brooks Cooper;
and great-grandchildren, Alyssa High, Nicholas High and Emily McCourt.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Ansberg-West

ROBERT L. "BOB" SHAW
Robert L. "Bob" Shaw, 83, of Haines City, Fla., and formerly of
Marysville died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2004, at Good Shepherd Hospice in
Auburndale, Fla.
A 1940 graduate of Marysville High School, he retired after 31 years as
a truck driver where he transported for local industry and delivered
freight throughout Michigan, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio. An accomplished
tenor banjo player since he was 9 years old, he also enjoyed the guitar,
motorcycles, trapshooting, playing pool, ballroom dancing, horseshoe
pitching and tinkering with small restoration jobs.
Last year, he became a permanent resident of Polk County, Fla., after
wintering there with his wife for several years. In Florida, he was a
member of the dixieland group, the Polk County Plunkers and the
Heartlanders County Band. For many years, he was a member of the Windsor
and Community Seniors and played with the local band, the Late Bloomers.
A longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, he was a member of Lamb of
God Lutheran Church in Haines City. He was a charter member of Heart of
Ohio Motorcycle Club and the Marysville Moose and Eagles lodges.
He was born Dec. 9, 1920, in Marysville to the late Floyd L. and Urcil
M. Hamilton Shaw. He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Margena L.
Streng Harriman Shaw, whom he married March 31, 1990, at the Marysville
Congregational Church; four children, Jeff (Jill) Harriman and Sheila
(Bill) Green of Marysville, Dr. Robert (Bette) Harriman of Pensacola
Beach, Fla. and Linda L. (Jim) Raymond of Apollo Beach, Fla.; two
sisters-in-law, Kathleen Streng and Maria Streng, both of Marysville;
eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

LEO E. SPEICHER
Leo E. Speicher, 80, of Richwood died Wednesday, Aug. 11, at the Gables
at Green Pastures in Marysville.
He was born Dec. 15, 1923 in Marysville to the late David Franklin and
Catherine Kendall Speicher.
He was a 1942 graduate of the Magnetic Springs High School and a World
War II Army veteran serving in Europe. He was a veterans service officer
in Union County for 25 years. He had worked at The Scotts Co. and the
railroad and farmed.
He was a member of the Richwood Church of Christ, American Legion Post
79 Marysville, 40 et 8 Voiture #857 Marysville, Prospect Senior
Citizens, Richwood Civic Center, and a life member of the Raymond VFW
Post 9909. He enjoyed playing cards, traveling, playing golf, fishing
and bowling.
On March 11, 1945, he married June Neer and she died April 12, 1993. On
June 20, 1996, he married Virginia Cole Carrel, who survives.
Also surviving are sons, Danny (Betty) of Belle Center, Burt (Lois) of
Kenton, Leo (Rose) of Richwood, David (Colleen) of Marysville, Victor
(Virginia) of West Mansfield, Stacey of Marysville and Troy of West

veteran graveside services conducted by the Richwood VFW, Richwood

KYLE MATTHEW CLARK
Kyle Matthew Clark, 16 days old, died on Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004, in
the arms of his loving parents.
He was preceded in death by his great grandparents Robert and Elenore.
He was survived by his parents Jeremy and McKenna; grandparents Trish,
Lloyd and Rhonda; Daniel and Kathy; great grandparents John, Gloria and
Barbara; great-great grandparents Allen and Rita; uncles Carson and
Gaylon; Aunt Kate and extended family and friends.

JAMES MATHEW "JIM" MORO
James Mathew "Jim" Moro, affectionately known as Jimbo, 37, of Delaware
died unexpectedly at his residence Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2004.
A skilled computer technician, Jim formerly owned and operated
Marysville Computer Service Center and previously worked as a guard at
ORW. He was a 1985 graduate of Marysville High School and attended
Hi-Point JVS where he excelled in the culinary arts. He was anticipating
entering the nursing program at Marion Technical College in the coming
weeks. He was raised in the Catholic faith and will be remembered as an
avid fisherman and a loyal and intense OSU Buckeyes and Cincinnati Reds
fan.
He was born July 18, 1967, in Bloomington, Ill., to Albert J. and Sharon
Loker Moro and was predeceased by his father on Feb. 17, 1996; his
maternal grandparents, William and Opal Loker; paternal grandparents,
Dominic and Nicolina Moro; an aunt, Patricia Diane Buford; and an uncle,
Joseph Moro.
He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Sharon (Jerry) Chapman of
Hernando, Fla.; two daughters, Elizabeth Paige "Lizzie" Moro, 8, and
Kathleen Michaela "Katie" Moro, 7; his fiancee, Andrea "Annie" Stewart
of Delaware and her daughter, Madison; four brothers, John (Jodi) Moro
of Groveport, Joe Moro of Columbus and Mike Moro and Albert Moro Jr. of
Cleveland; a sister Diane (Frank) Hall of Marysville; two nephews, Aaron

EUNICE M. WHITESIDE
Eunice M. Whiteside, 74, of Marysville died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004, at
Heartland of Marysville after a brief illness. She was a cosmetologist
and owner-operator of the Style Beauty Salon for more than 55 years.
She was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, member and
president of Priscilla Circle and member of the Ohio Business and
Professional Women's Association, Ohio Republican and Union County
Republican Women's associations. She helped organize the Read to Me
program at Trinity Lutheran School and was active, with her husband,
with the Hellcats of the 12th Armored Division. Her love for cooking was
demonstrated in the ice cream cakes, sheet cakes, cookies, pies and
chocolate candy that she shared with friends and family.
She was born Dec. 2, 1929, in Marysville to the late Clarence and Marie
Rausch Schalip and was predeceased by two grandsons, Nathan and Joshua
Webb. She married James H. Whiteside June 4, 1950, at Trinity Lutheran
Church and he died Oct. 24, 2001.
She is survived by her children, J. Allen (Debbie) Whiteside and Joellen
S. (Les) Webb of Marysville; grandchildren, Jarad, Luke and Meredith
Whiteside and Nick, Brandon and Matthew Webb; a brother, Lee Schalip;
brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Rebecca Schalip, Paul and Peg
Anderson, Jim and Pat Lathrop, Bob and Mary Lou Whiteside, Bill
Whiteside and Pat Whiteside; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran
Church. The Rev. Jay Decker will officiate and burial will be at Oakdale

HARLAND F. JOLLIFF
Harland F. Jolliff, 88, of Byhalia died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2004, at his
home.
He owned and operated Jolliff's Shopping Center for more than 50 years.
He was a member of the Kenton Family Moose Lodge and enjoyed playing
billiards, fishing and watching sports on television.
He was born Jan. 30, 1916, to the late John and Alma Mae Hall Jolliff
and was predeceased by a brother, Fostor Jolliff and a grandson, James
Kip Jolliff. He married Erma Leota Kelsey Jan. 31, 1936, and she died in
1980.
He is survived by two sons, James (Beverly) Jolliff in Byhalia and Lynn
Jolliff of Fort Myers, Fla.; four daughters, Kay (Edward) Dotson and Kim
Thompson of Byhalia, Beverly (David) Selover of Forest and LuAnn (Brian)
Swinehart of Prospect; 16 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Price Funeral
Home in Mount Victory. Tim Garmon will officiate and burial will be at
the Byhalia Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

MILDRED M. GLASS
Mildred Marian Glass, 87, of Richwood died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004, at
Marion Manor Nursing Home.
She was a 1935 graduate of Richwood High School, a dedicated member of
Richwood Church of Christ where she served as treasurer, Sunday school
and Vacation Bible School teacher, Ladies Aid president, secretary and
treasurer several times during the years. She worked on the family farm
on Route 4 in Union County just south of Fulton Creek and with the
Fryman Dairy until she married. She had also worked for O.M. Scotts
Company and retired from the Columbus Bank Note Company.
She was a member of the former Mount Carmel Chapter 42 O.E.S., now Mary
Chapter and was a longtime election poll worker in Richwood. She was a
member of the Richwood Civic Center, with which she enjoyed traveling on
bus trips, especially to Nova Scotia, and in later years she belonged to
the Solitaires and enjoyed their activities. She loved her famliy and
was there for every activity they participated in. She enjoyed gardening
and her favorite flower was the pansy.
She was born June 20, 1917, on the family farm to the late Ray and Clara
Rider Fryman. She married Lindsey W. Glass Oct. 27, 1945, at the
Richwood Church of Christ parsonage and he died Jan. 29, 1977. She was
predeceased by a brother, Perry "Bud" Fryman and three sisters, Clarice
Fryman, Pauline Neel and Evelyn Johnson.
She is survived by a son, Gary (Lois Ann) Glass of Richwood; two
daughters, Lynne (Gary) Ledley and Nancy (Jim) Wiley of Richwood; five
grandchildren, Chris and Leigh Ann Glass and Chad, Lindsey and Kyle
Wiley of Richwood; a great-granddaughter, Cheyenne Wiley; and a sister,
Dale Fryman.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Richwood Church
of Christ. The Rev. Scot Gorsuch will officiate and burial will be at
the Shoup Cemetery in Thompson Township. Friends may call from 4 to 8

BETTIE R. SOLLERS
Bettie R. Sollers, 76, of Marion died Friday, Aug. 6, 2004, at Marion
Manor Nursing Home.
She was a sales promotion manager for 22 years for J.C. Penney and was a
member of Central Baptist Church and the Modern Woodmen of America.
She was born Feb. 9, 1928, in Shawnee, Okla., to the late A.E. and
Beulah Johnson Ray. She married Leo D. Sollers Nov. 5, 1952, in Douglas,
Wyo., and he died Nov. 18, 1993.
She is survived by three sons, Johnny L. Sollers of Marysville, K.C.
(Darlene) Sollers of Deer Park, Texas, and Kelly Sollers of Coldwater,
Mich.; and two grandchildren, Christy (Joey) Lovolette and Kacey
Sollers.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the
Denzer-Farison-Hottinger Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion. The
Rev. Jerry Lewis will officiate and burial will be at the Grand Prairie

MARION EUGENE LENTZ
Marion Eugene Lentz, 86, of Findlay, formerly of Mortimer, died
Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, at Sunrise Assisted Living in Findlay.
He was a member of Stonebridge Church of God and Faithful Workers Sunday
School. He was formerly a welder at Garwood Industries for 28 years and
retired in 1986 from Machinery Builders in Toledo after 10 years of
service.
He was born July 1, 1918, to the late Harold D. and May LaRue Lentz and
was predeceased by a sister, Marie Lentz and a brother, Alva Lentz.
He is survived by his wife, Ila L. Sims Lentz whom he married Feb. 25,
1940; a daughter, Sandra (Jack) Schimmel of Marysville; a son, Jerry
(Janet) Lentz of Lancaster; five grandchildren; eight
great-grandchildren; three brothers, Jack Lentz of Tucson, Ariz., and
Homer Lentz and Kenneth Lentz of Findlay; two sisters, Ruth Hills and
Nellie Gardner of Findlay; a stepsister, Loretta Farthing of Findlay;
and two stepbrothers, Ralph and Raymond Dewey of Findlay.

Verna Rachel Glick Hatcher, 75, of Ostrander died Wednesday, Aug. 4,
2004, at Delaware Court Health Care Center.
She was a homemaker and a member of the New California United
Presbyterian Church and the Good Sam Camping Club.
She was born Nov. 5, 1928, in New Bremen to the late Herman and Hattie
Steinecker Kuck and was predeceased by her first husband of 46 years,
Edwards Conine Glick, and her second husband of almost three years,
Willard Hatcher.
She is survived by three daughters, Linda (Dale) Welch of Mount Gilead,
Karen (Steven) Glancy of Mount Vernon and Diane (Roger) Neibarger of
Sunbury; two sons, Darrell (Gail) Glick of West Mansfield and Duane
(Teresa) Glick of Ostrander; a stepson, Joseph (Beverly) Glick of
Prospect; numerous grandchildren, step-grandchildren and
great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Shirley (Robert) Huckeriede of St.
Marys and Carol (James) Moss of Fishers, Ind.

LOWELL D. BORING
Lowell Don "Chick" Boring, 67, of Marysville and Dublin died Wednesday,
Aug. 4, 2004, at his residence in Dublin.
He was a 1954 graduate of Buckskin High School in South Salem and
attended the Ohio State University. He was stationed in Germany with the
U.S. Army and was retired from retail management and the greenhouse
industry. He was a member of First English Lutheran Church of
Marysville.
He was born Oct. 7,1936, in Thornville to the late Kermit A. and Dorothy
E. Cooperrider Boring and was predeceased by a brother, Philip L.
Boring.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Linda S. McBride Boring; two
daughters, Laura Tranter of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Valerie Boring of
Honolulu, Hawaii; five sisters, Barbara (Donald) Bauer of Blacklick,
Cynthia Boring of Gahanna, Sandra (Dwight) McBride of Kannapolis, N.C.,
Susan Boring and close friend, Donald Crowther of Alexandria and Elaine
(John) Given of Galloway; a brother, Steven (Hope) Boring of Columbus;
the children of Philip Boring, Brenda (Marshall) Fisher of Marlton,
N.J., Ross (Linda) Boring of Grove City and Winnie (Jeff) Hafner of
Gahanna; two sisters-in-law, Joyce (Denny) Harper of Granville and

TREVA FLORENCE HURST
Treva Florence Hurst, 101, of Bellefontaine died Wednesday, Aug. 4,
2004, at Logan Acres Nursing Center.
She owned and operated Hurst Florist and attended the Church of the
Nazarene.
She was born July 12, 1903, in Shelby County to the late Grant and Mary
Spahr Settlemire and was predeceased by a son, Fred Hurst; two brothers,
Robert and Alonzo Settlemire; and two sisters, Georgia Castle and Lela
Chester. She married Darrell F. Hurst June 23, 1922, in Bellefontaine
and he died April 2, 1967.
She is survived by two sons, Richard Hurst of Bellefontaine and James D.
(Joyce) Hurst of Delaware; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren;
two great-great-grandchildren; one niece; and two nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Huntsville
Cemetery. There will be no visiting hours.

ALBERT C. JOOSS
Albert C. Jooss, 90, of Marysville died Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, at
Heartland of Marysville.
He was a retired tool and die maker and was employed with Curtis Wright,
North American Rockwell and the Boeing Corporation in Columbus. A
devoted father and husband, he and his wife raised their family in
Westerville and lived in New Albany before moving to Marysville.
He was born Aug. 27, 1913, in Konigsbronn, Germany, to the late
Christian and Magdalena Jooss and was predeceased by three
brothers-in-law, Karl Weferling, Walter (Betty) Weferling and Virgil
Brown; and a sister-in-law, Gertrude. He married Ella Hermina Weferling
April 6, 1935, in Columbus and she died May 13, 2004.
He is survived by a daughter, Judy A. Wampler of Hailey, Idaho; two
sons, Herman A. Jooss of Marysville and Carl C. (Sandy) Jooss of New
Albany; four grandchildren, Kimberlee Wampler Nichols of Port Richey,
Fla., Jenny (Todd) Jooss Wielinski of Noblesville, Ind., Jody Jooss of
Pataskala and Perry Jooss of New Albany; two great-grandchildren, Gunnar
and Ella Wielinski; two sisters, Wilma Lindsay of Ohio and Helen Jack of
Arkansas; three sisters-in-law, Hilda Brown of Marysville and Elizabeth
and Annie Louise of Germany; a former son-on-law, Wendell Wampler; and
many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Forest Lawn
Memorial Gardens in Reynoldsburg. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m.

DONALD W. MURPHY
Donald W. Murphy, 78, of West Jefferson died Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, at
the Madison County Hospital.
He served in the South Pacific in the U.S. Navy during World War II and
was a proud member of the Amvets, N.A.V.S. and American Legion and a
life member of West Jefferson VFW Post 7005. After the war, he worked as
a construction iron worker and was a member of the Ironworkers Union of
Columbus. He was a farmer and successfully owned and operated his own
business of bulldozing and gravel hauling.
He was born June 10, 1926, in Perry Township to the late Rueben and
Hazel Hinderer Murphy and was predeceased by a brother, Harold Murphy; a
niece, Bertha Moody; and a great-nephew, Ronnie Glass.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Catherine Lanigan Murphy; a
son, Casey M. (Richi) Murphy Sr.; grandchildren, Casey (Christinna)
Murphy Jr., Donald (Kristina) Murphy and Elizabeth Murphy; a sister,
Ruth (Herby) Kelly of Florida; a niece, Jean (Keith) Glass of
Lithopolis; a sister-in-law, Jewel Murphy of West Virginia; four
nephews; and a niece.

Funeral Home, 1355 W. Main St., West Jefferson. The Rev. Michael Devaney

DOTTIE JOYCE COBB BRAY
Dottie Joyce Cobb Bray, 75, a resident of Heartland of Marysville for
more than 18 months and formerly of North Lewisburg and East Liberty,
died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, with her family at her side at Riverside
Methodist Hospital in Columbus following an extended illness.
She retired in 1988 as a shipping clerk with TRC. She was a 1947
graduate of Central High School in Anderson, Ind., and was a member of
the Middleburg Pentecostal Church and Order of the Eastern Star, Mary
Chapter 9. She enjoyed cooking, reading, arts and crafts and sewing and
she especially enjoyed all types of gardening. She possessed a wonderful
sense of humor and her greatest joy came from spending time with her
family, especially her grandchildren.
She was born March 22, 1929, in Dugger, Ind., the youngest of 13
children of the late Marshall and Nancy Garrison Cobb and was
predeceased by an infant great-grandson, Titus Warne, and 11 brothers
and sisters.
She is survived by a daughter, Lori (Joe) Adelsberger of Rogersville,
Tenn.; three sons, Harry M. Bray of Bellefontaine and his fiancee, Jayme
Moore Hamilton of East Liberty; John A. (Cherie) Bray of Bellefontaine
and William T. Bray of West Mansfield; eight grandchildren, Sheryn
(Barry) Warne, Jeremy Titus, Emily Titus, Kerri Ann Bray, Adam Bray,
Jacob Bray, Joshua (Chrissy) Bray and Erin (Keith) Casto; six
great-grandchildren, Brock, Trevor and Erica Warne and Dillon, Jaiden
and Carter Bray; a sister, Louisa Jourdan of Anderson, Ind., numerous
nieces and nephews; and her former husband, Charles Bray of West
Mansfield.
Dr. Jason Robson will officiate at graveside services at noon Thursday
